Cities go through many transformations throughout their histories. The city that we're going to discuss in this video has had many ups and downs, but in recent years, it has been experiencing a bit of a renaissance. Detroit is the largest city in Michigan, and unfortunately, it's developed a pretty lousy reputation over the years. In 2013, the city faced municipal bankruptcy, and for many years residents were leaving the city in droves, leading to 22 percent of the residential structures in the city becoming abandoned.
The COVID pandemic likewise hit the city pretty hard, making an already less-than-ideal situation more difficult. Fortunately, massive revitalization efforts have succeeded in breathing some fresh, new life into the city, and today we’re pleased to say that Detroit is once again worth visiting. Granted, you should be cautious when exploring the city. There are certain neighborhoods with high crime rates that you’d be wise to avoid, but that describes practically every large city in the world.
With the three leading American vehicle manufacturers being headquartered in the Metro Detroit area, the city has long been known as Motor City. Back in the day, the majority of residents worked in the bustling car manufacturing industry, but these days, many of those jobs have dried up, leading Detroit natives to look elsewhere for employment. Even so, the automobile manufacturing industry is still the top reigning industry in Detroit.
For visitors, there is a ton that you can expect to discover in Detroit. For one thing, the city boasts one of the most thriving music scenes in the country. Northville and Northville Township, Michigan are very beautiful in the fall. There are several lakes in the city with abundant wildlife - swans, several species of ducks, geese, Great White Egrets, Great Blue Herons, turtles and birds. There are also chipmunks, squirrels and deer.
Enjoy the beauty of a stunning sunrise reflecting on the lake or a rainbow after a storm. There are many activities to enjoy on the lakes including kayaking, boating, canoeing, fishing, and swimming. The fall colors in the parks and around the lakes are beautiful.
Mill Race Historical Village preserves Northville's history. It has a church, gazebo, school, bridge, blacksmith shop, general store and several homes. Buildings are available for events and meetings. The rouge river runs through the village. Don't miss Halloween Hysteria for trick or treating, Halloween crafts, fortune teller and refreshments in October.
Mill Race Historical Village is available as an indoor or outdoor wedding venue. The entire village is available for you, your family and your guests and would be closed to the general public during your wedding event. You can share your vows inside the church, in front of the Yerkes house, which is surrounded by stunning flowers and landscaping, on the steps of the gazebo or wherever you like in the village. The autumn leaves and beautiful surroundings are ideal for enhancing your gorgeous wedding photographs.
Maybury State Park has a lot to offer including beautiful fall colors in the forest, gently rolling terrain, a gorgeous lake, walking trails for hiking, biking trails, horseback riding, fishing, live concerts, events and picnic shelters.
Maybury Farm is open to the public and has a petting zoo. There are 100 farm animals to enjoy including horses, bulls, cows, goats, rams, sheep, lambs, pigs, geese, ducks, rabbits, chickens and peacocks. Visit the Maybury General Store for popcorn, gifts, jams, etc. Enjoy wagon rides, the fall festival, picnic areas, classes, story time, etc. See their website for dates and hours.
Maybury Riding Stable offers guided, scenic trail rides on their horses through Maybury State Park. They have corral rides for children under eight, and they offer photo shoots with their horses. They are open for the season April through November.
Three Cedars Farm is a great place to visit for the whole family. There is a beautiful outdoor fireplace, hayrides, a corn maze (one for adults and one for children), train rides and a pumpkin patch where you can pick your own pumpkin. There are tent and barn party rentals, bonfires and a barnyard playland with live lambs, goats, chickens, roosters and rabbits. The general store is spectacularly decorated for Halloween. The donut hut offers apple cider, caramel apples and donuts. You can purchase corn stalks, mums, pumpkins and gourds. Say hello to Hillbilly Joe. They are open for the fall season in September, October and November. No alcohol or pets are allowed. Check their website for dates and hours.
The wildlife make the lakes come alive with beauty. They are very entertaining. There is a way you can help the wildlife on the lakes. Most people do not realize that fireworks and firecrackers are very harmful, traumatizing and sometimes fatal to wildlife of all kinds. The loud sounds and the flashing lights frighten them. Some of them are injured or killed when they are startled by the noise, and they fly into things. Mother birds will sometimes abandon their nests or get separated from their babies who cannot fly or survive on their own. After fireworks are set off on a lake, it looks like a dead zone for about a month or two because the wildlife are too frightened to return to the lake where they eat, sleep and live. Some never return.
Family pets, children, the elderly and our troops (who served our country and have PTSD) are also stressed or traumatized by the loud sounds. Animals have died from heart failure due to panic attacks from the loud sounds. They can also experience hearing loss. Fires to homes and businesses are also a problem. The toxic chemicals from the pyrotechnics poison the air, water and land.
Please advocate for the wildlife and abstain from using fireworks and firecrackers. Let your family, friends and city officials know that you do not want fireworks in your city or around your lakes. Thank you for helping the wildlife that cannot speak for themselves.

Starting off in front of the Northville Downs horse track, we take a walk past some great old homes, before we head into downtown Northville. They had a few streets blocked off for pedestrian traffic only; just my luck :) Plenty of nice shops and eateries here, and perfect blue skies for dining outdoors. Once we leave downtown we briefly check out another neighborhood, and then make our way into Ford Field Park, which runs alongside the Rouge River. Enjoy the Walk!

Northville is a village in Fulton County, New York. The population was 1,099 at the 2010 United States Census.
The Village of Northville is in the northern part of the Town of Northampton and is northeast of Gloversville. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2), of which, 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) of it (24.65%) is water.
The village is located at 43°13.5′N 74°10.5′W in the Adirondack Park on a northern extension of the Great Sacandaga Lake. The Sacandaga River enters the lake to the west the village.
The village is just east of New York State Route 30, connected to the highway by a bridge over the Sacandaga River, and is also serviced by County Roads 143, 149, and 153. Northville was the setting of a 1997 two-part episode of the television series The X-Files. In the two episodes, Tempus Fugit and Max, a passenger plane carrying a former alien abductee, crashed into the ground near the village of Northville. Mulder and Scully were called to investigate after reports of the plane being forced down by a U.F.O. The X-Files team investigates and soon discovers a UFO at the bottom of the Great Sacandaga Lake. The production was only set in Northville; it was not filmed there, although the production crew did research and contact the village government for specific information regarding police vehicles, maps, etc.[citation needed] The idea for this two-part episode is said to have been based on a Massachusetts Air National Guard plane crash that occurred on September 17, 1986 in the town of Wells, Hamiliton County, New York, which is approximately 10 miles north of Northville. Four planes were involved in the training mission and two of the four crashed into the Adirondack mountains killing one pilot and injuring the other
