Long Island Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

Long Island – Less than an hour’s drive from NYC, find the first of the island’s much-loved beaches. From there, follow us through the coolest parts of the area.

When ready, browse vacation packages to Long Island:

A #LongIsland #vacation sends you eastward from the New York boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens to the bluffs of Montauk Point. A short train ride from Manhattan is Long Beach, which for many is where Long Island begins. Visit Fire Island Lighthouse, which for generations of immigrants was their first glimpse of America. It was on Long Island’s northern shores where the mansions were built that would inspire F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic, The Great Gatsby.

#Visit the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Hempstead and continue your flight into the past at the American Airpower Museum. #Explore the pioneer settlement of Southampton Village and nearby Sag Harbor, a historic whaling port immortalized in Moby Dick. America’s first president, George Washington, commissioned Montauk Lighthouse on Long Island’s easternmost point. Climb to the top to take in the sweeping views of this place that has played center stage in some of America’s greatest stories.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Patchogue Plunge 2022

The Patchogue Young Professionals are organizing the 2nd annual Patchogue Plunge to take place on Super Bowl Sunday! Before you grab a beer and some hot wings on Super Bowl Sunday take the Patchogue Plunge for a good cause!

Check-in for the event will happen at 9:30 AM at Sandspit Marina for the plunge at 10 AM. All of the proceeds from the plunge will go toward the Gabby Petito Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by the parents of the late Gabby Petito of Blue Point. 50/50 raffles will be available on site. Winners will be announced at the defrost party at the Tap Room immediately following the plunge.
The Gabby Petito Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) organization founded by Gabby Petito’s parents. Gabby went missing while on a cross-country road trip that included visits to many of our national parks. After an intensive search, it was discovered that Gabby’s life was tragically cut short.
The mission of the foundation is to address the needs of organizations that support locating missing persons and to provide aid to organizations that assist victims of domestic violence situations, through education, awareness, and prevention strategies.
We wish to turn our personal tragedy into a positive one. It is our hope that Gabby’s foundation will bring these important issues to the forefront of the public eye to the benefit of all our communities.

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) → How to ride, view schedule, buy tickets, board train, transfer, etc

The Long Island Rail Road (or LIRR) is a commuter rail that goes through Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk. It's a great way to see the areas east of New York City (which is Long Island). I use it to go to Far Rockaway beach, Citifield for a Mets game, and Billie Jean King/Arthur Ashe for the US Open Tennis. But how do you take the LIRR? How do you ride the Long Island Rail Road? In this video, I'm going to cover everything you need to know about the Long Island Rail Road — from defining what it is to buying a ticket from a machine or phone, finding and boarding your train, figuring out transfers, and so much more. Enjoy and Happy New York-ing!

What Is Considered The Longest Ride and Video As Well In LIRR ERA, I Bring To You Patchogue! That’s right, this week marks the first ever tour in Diesel Territory as mentioned in the Promo that was posted on the day of the trip, the day turned out to be amazing! A couple of changes on this trip as well, Beginning with the starting point being at Penn Station instead at Atlantic Terminal due to maintenance, and we took the earliest train in LIRR Tour Era as well. It was the 12:55 train to Babylon W/Connection To Patchogue! It was a fast ride and a nice one because I got to see the local stops in Queens, Forest Hills is within a candidate for a future tour, and I had to gear up with my equipment because I knew the weather would change up at times and it did! You’ll see that I recorded the entire ride from Babylon to Patchogue on the C3 Car which honestly has to be the smoothest ride I’ve experienced EVER. I filled it up with different types of music even K-Pop! This tour also includes plenty of segments including the Overview for May 2018 and the LIRR Meeting. The restaurant we visited was to “The Tap Room” which is definitely another recommended restaurant in my opinion and the food was amazing! No Uber this time as the cameraman decided that it was feasible to walk it out! Which is what we did for the Area Segments which was worth it! And there was another Marina for this tour! With both pictures and a separate segment, it was a total bizarre experience because I was stunned how amazing the Bay looked, with ferries and birds in the background too! I was also impressed with the amount of Suffolk County Bus Connections, And at least the Parking Lot had exceptions. The Station Tour began at night as well as 2 more segments, I personally enjoyed and was glad to choose Patchogue because it was worth a place to visit and spend quality time especially during the weekend, with so many places to visit! It marks a strong start on the Montauk Branch as we have 2 more Tours before The Road To Montauk which will be in July! Lastly the Ride Back To Jamaica was absolutely mind-boggling... only 2 Stops! It almost felt like “The Jamaica Bullet” because of how fast the trip was on our way back. With that I end it here, enjoy the video and
stay tuned for more tours on my channel.

Northern State Parkway West - FULL Route - Long Island - New York - 4K Highway Drive

From Wikipedia:
The Northern State Parkway (also known as the Northern Parkway or Northern State) is a 28.88-mile-long (46.48 km) limited-access state parkway on Long Island in the U.S. state of New York. The western terminus is at the Queens–Nassau County line, where the parkway continues westward into New York City as the Grand Central Parkway. The eastern terminus is at New York State Route 347 (NY 347) and NY 454 in Hauppauge. The parkway is designated New York State Route 908G (NY 908G), an unsigned reference route. As its name implies, the parkway services communities along the northern half of the island.

In western Nassau County the parkway sports six lanes, three eastbound and three westbound, narrowing to four lanes total in central Nassau at the Wantagh Parkway (exit 33) and through its twelve miles (19 km) or so in western Suffolk County, where it ends. It was constructed in stages throughout the 1930s and again post-World War II in the late 1940s/early 1950s until it reached its current terminus in Hauppauge in 1965. The Northern State Parkway is an eastern extension of the Grand Central Parkway. It was part of master planner Robert Moses' extensive road-building campaign and was built as a sister road to the Southern State Parkway. In recent years its design has quickly become dated due to an increase in commuter traffic using the roadway, and numerous improvements have been made (including the widening from four to six lanes in Central Nassau west to the Nassau-Queens line where it becomes the Grand Central) or are still on paper.

map of New York state

New York is a state in the Northeastern United States. It is sometimes called New York State to distinguish it from its largest city, New York City. With a total area of 54,556 square miles (141,300 km2),New York is the 27th largest state geographically. With 20.2 million residents, it is the fourth most populous state in the United States as of 2021, with approximately 44% living in New York City and 40% on Long Island.[ The state is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south, and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east; it has a maritime border with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the northwest.

New York City (NYC) is the most populous city in the United States,[] and two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York metropolitan area.] NYC is home to the United Nations Headquarters,] and has been described as the cultural,[financial, and media capital of the world,[ as well as the world's most economically powerful city.[] The next five most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Yonkers, Rochester, Syracuse, and the state capital of Albany.

New York has a diverse geography. The southern part of the state is in the Atlantic coastal plain and includes Long Island and several smaller associated islands, as well as New York City and the lower Hudson River Valley. The larger Upstate New York region comprises several ranges of the wider Appalachian Mountains, and the Adirondack Mountains in the northeastern lobe of the state. The north–south Hudson River Valley and the east–west Mohawk River Valley bisect these more mountainous regions. Western New York is part of the Great Lakes region and borders on the Great Lakes of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, as well as Niagara Falls. The central part of the state is dominated by the Finger Lakes, a popular vacation and tourist destination.

New York was one of the original thirteen colonies forming the United States. The area of present-day New York had been inhabited by tribes of the Algonquians and the Iroquois confederacy Native Americans for several hundred years by the time the earliest Europeans arrived. French colonists and Jesuit missionaries arrived southward from Montreal for trade and proselytizing. In 1609, the region was visited by Henry Hudson sailing for the Dutch East India Company. The Dutch built Fort Nassau in 1614 at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk rivers, where the present-day capital of Albany later developed. The Dutch soon also settled New Amsterdam and parts of the Hudson Valley, establishing the multiethnic colony of New Netherland, a center of trade and immigration. England seized the colony from the Dutch in 1664, with the Dutch recapturing their colony in 1673 before definitively ceding it to the English as a part of the Treaty of Westminster the following year During the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), a group of colonists of the Province of New York attempted to take control of the British colony and eventually succeeded in establishing independence. In the early 19th century, New York's development of its interior, beginning with the Erie Canal, gave it incomparable advantages over other regions of the east coast and built its political and cultural ascendancy.

Many landmarks in New York are well known, including four of the world's ten most-visited tourist attractions in 2013: Times Square, Central Park, Niagara Falls, and Grand Central Terminal. New York is also home to the Statue of Liberty. In the 21st century, New York has emerged as a global node of creativity and entrepreneurship,] social tolerance, and environmental sustainability. New York has approximately 200 colleges and universities, including the State University of New York. Several universities in New York have been ranked among the top 100 in the nation and world The state of New York covers a total area of 54,555 square miles (141,297 km2) and ranks as the 27th largest state by size. The highest elevation in New York is Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks of Northern New York, at 5,344 feet (1,629 meters) above sea level; while the state's lowest point is at sea level, on the Atlantic Ocean in Downstate New York.

In contrast with New York City's urban landscape, the vast majority of the state's geographic area is dominated by meadows, forests, rivers, farms, mountains, and lakes. Most of the southern part of the state rests on the Allegheny Plateau, which extends from the southeastern United States to the Catskill Mountains; the section in New York State is known as the Southern Tier. The rugged Adirondack Mountains, with vast tracts of wilderness, lie west of the Lake Champlain Valley. The Great Appalachian Valley dominates eastern New York and contains Lake Champlain Valley as its northern half and the Hudson Valley as its southern half within the state.
