Places to visit in Tura (Garo Hills)
Shillong to Tura is about 300 km.
If you are travelling from Shillong to Tura There are two different routes - one via Guwahati & another is via Nongstoin.
In my experience Nongstoin route is much better. But on the Nongstoin route there are few food joints. So, do carry food with you.
You can stopover at Nogghnum and Mawphanlur when you are travelling from Shillong to Tura via Nongstoin.

Balphakram National Park
The deep gorges, extensive limestone formations, caves and the Balpakram plateau (regarded as a sacred place by the Garo tribes) are among the unique features.

We paid Rs 12000 for the To & Fro from Shillong to Garo Hills.
Vikram Taxi Driver: 9774641749, his strength lies in his comfort in speaking hindi and punjabi but does not have thorough knowledge of places outside Shillong.
Airport Services: just in case if you want to take a helicopter from Guwahati to Shillong or Guwahati to Shillong, below information will be of use.
Sometimes due to bad weather flight from Guwahati to Shillong gets delayed or cancelled, keep that in mind, plus as i am told by them at Guwahati airport that as of now there is not online booking process.

EP 10 Shillong to Garo hills, | Shillong Golf course, Mawphanlur
We did this journey from shillong to Tura, ie from East Khasi hills to west Garo hills. Though the route from Guwahati is also nice but this one is better in terms of scenic views that you can enjoy.

If you travel via this route you will get to see Mawphalur on the way, this is such a beautiful place. If you are taking the route to travel from Shillong to Garo hills i will suggest you to start the journey early in the morning, so that you reach the destination on time which means before sunset.
This video has short length: Earlier i tried merging this journey with next day's activities but then the length of the episode was turning out to reach 30 min level, which is very long, people lose interest in such long episodes, so i was left with no choice but to break this into 2 episodes.

Nongstoin is the headquarters of West Khasi Hills district in the state of Meghalaya.
Location : Nongstoin is situated about 93 km from Shillong.

Meghalaya is a hilly state in northeastern India. The name means the abode of clouds in Sanskrit. The population of Meghalaya as of 2016 is estimated to be 3,211,474.Meghalaya covers an area of approximately 22,430 square kilometres, with a length to breadth ratio of about 3:1.
The state is bounded to the south by the Bangladeshi divisions of Mymensingh and Sylhet, to the west by the Bangladeshi division of Rangpur, and to the north and east by India's State of Assam. The capital of Meghalaya is Shillong. During the British rule of India, the British imperial authorities nicknamed it the Scotland of the East. Meghalaya was previously part of Assam, but on 21 January 1972, the districts of Khasi, Garo and Jaintia hills became the new state of Meghalaya. English is the official language of Meghalaya. Unlike many Indian states, Meghalaya has historically followed a matrilineal system where the lineage and inheritance are traced through women; the youngest daughter inherits all wealth and she also takes care of her parents.
The state is the wettest region of India, recording an average of 12,000 mm (470 in) of rain a year. About 70% of the state is forested. The Meghalaya subtropical forests ecoregion encompasses the state; its mountain forests are distinct from the lowland tropical forests to the north and south. The forests are notable for their biodiversity of mammals, birds, and plants.

I have travelled solo in Meghalaya in remote places like Tura without any fear. Meghalaya is one of the states where I feel quite at home during solo travel as well.
How to Reach Meghalaya?
Just like the other northeast states, Guwahati forms the entry point of Meghalaya as well. Shillong is the most important and the capital city of Meghalaya. Your Meghalaya trip will probably start from Shillong itself.
Shillong has a domestic airport that is connected by flights from Kolkata, Guwahati and New Delhi. However, the best way to enter Meghalaya would be to arrive at Guwahati and then move on to Shillong.
You can hire cars for travelling to various destinations in Meghalaya from the Police Bazar Taxi Stand.

If you want to travel by shared vehicles, the Sumos are available from Bara Bazar Sumo Stand near Ïewduh. Shared Sumos to other destinations like Dawki, Kongthong, Nongstoin are also available from there.
For offbeat places, the number of shared jeeps is quite less. So if you want to travel around Meghalaya by shared vehicles, keep some time in hand and get to know about the vehicle timings beforehand.
