River Niger Bridge - Drone View
The River Niger Bridge in Onitsha (also known as the Onitsha Bridge), Anambra State, Nigeria[2] connects southeastern Nigeria with western Nigeria over the Niger River. It is linked to Asaba in Delta State, Nigeria.
Feasibility studies and design considerations on the possibility of constructing a bridge across River Niger from Asaba to Onitsha was carried out by the Netherlands Engineering Consultants of The Hague, Holland (NEDECO) in the 1950s,[3] Between 1964 and 1965, French construction giant, Dumez, constructed the Niger Bridge, to link Onitsha and Asaba in present-day Anambra and Delta States respectively at an estimated cost of £6.75 million. Construction of the bridge was completed in December 1965.[4]
After its completion, the bridge was eight by four hundred and twenty feet (8×420 ft.) with a carriageway of 36 feet centre-truss and a pedestrian walkway on both sides of the carriageway. It was commissioned by the then Prime Minister the late Alhaji Tafawa Balewa and opened for traffic in December 1965. The commissioning of the bridge was the last public function of the Prime Minister before his assassination on January 15, 1966.[3]
During the Nigerian Civil War of 1967 - 1970, in an attempt to halt the Nigerian military advance, retreating Biafran soldiers destroyed the River Niger Bridge at Onitsha, trapping the Nigerians on the other side of the river. During President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration, the bridge was rehabilitated by replacing two spans on the Onitsha end of the bridge that was damaged during the civil war with a fourteen-foot wide bailey, at an estimated cost of 1.5 million pounds.[3]

Onitsha is the third most populated urban area in Africa after Cairo in Egypt and Lagos In Nigeria.
Over the years,this fact has not been known by the general public ,as the Nigerian census system has been reported to be flawed over these years.This has contributed to the commercial city of Onitsha not gaining enough recognition globally as it's always not included in charts and rankings .
However,in 2019,a foreign institution based in France used satellite system to reveal these facts and telling the world that Onitsha is the third most populated urban area in Africa,and second in Nigeria.

Nigeria | Of tunnels and chambers - Ogbunike Cave Anambra State
Underneath a valley covered by tropical rain forest lies Ogbunike Cave, a collection of #caves that has #spiritual significance to the locals. Descending 310 steps will take you to the main entrance of the caves. Visitors must take of their shoes before entering and be prepared for the experience of stepping on moist #earth.
The main cave consists of a massive area and structure with a big open chamber. At certain parts of this chamber depending on how tall you are you can stand erect. There are different tunnels at the main chamber leading to different directions. The tunnels end up in big chambers and they vary in lengths and some are interconnected. You will find large colonies of #bats and streams in the caves.
One stream flows out from one of the tunnels into #River Nkissa There is also a spot beside the river used as a relaxation spot by visitors to the caves. The #rock at the entrance is said to grow so I have taken a picture to mark the level so if do ever comeback I can cross check if the legend holds true
