We are sailing the Maas river from Maasbracht, The Netherlands to Maastricht, The Netherlands. In fact, in this part of our trip we are sailing the Julianakanaal. The Maas is too shallow. We pass the Drielingssluis, Maasbracht and the Schutsluis, Born. Quite spectacular event. We dock at the Bassin harbour, Maastricht.

Another of our weekly day trips with me mate Leigh.
Thought we'd do the Dutch side of the Nordkanal joining it in Venlo and heading west towards the end in Nederweert.
Pretty good ride until it started snowing and cold wind! After Nederweert we then headed back east towards Neer, over the Maas at Steyl/Tegelen and back home.
Now done the complete Nordkanal, done the German side to Neuss/Dusseldorf quite a few times.
Cool bananas.

one of the largest military cemeteries in the Netherlands. Holten Canadian War Cemetery
Holten Canadian War Cemetery or Canadese begraafplaats Holterberg is one of the largest military cemeteries in the Netherlands. The Second World War graves in Holten are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Holten Canadian War Cemetery has the graves of 1394 soldiers, of whom 1355 are Canadians.
Behind each of the 1394 graves is an impressive story. In the Canadian Cemetery Information Centre the memory of those who fell is kept alive with personal stories, anecdotes and photographs - often donated by next of kin. Here you can discover how the northeastern Netherlands was liberated and learn more about the fallen soldiers and how the Field of Honour came into being.
This piece of land was donated to Canada by the Netherlands and is therefore Canadian territory.
During the year there are impressive ceremonies here. Imagine al lighted candles.
The Holterberg is a hilly area, which is part of the National Park Sallandse Heuvelrug.
Enjoy nature. There are many kilometers of hiking and biking trails and 2 mountain bike trails. How nice is it that you can combine nature and culture so well?
