Israel 2023 - Nazareth, Jerusalem, and Tel Aviv

I was in Israel last year at this time as my friend, Eli, had suddenly passed away and I wished to pay my respects to the family. This trip was also to do the same but also to visit some areas of Isreal that I had not seen. So, Zig/Mark/Yoram and I travelled about. We met up with lots of friends and family members as they shared their secrets about Israel. It is a most interesting little country that never ceased to amaze me. There are thousand year old shops next to modern 5-star hotels in Jerusalem. Tel Aviv offers pretty much anything in terms of cuisine, shopping and ancient markets.

I hope that you enjoyed watching it and that you share it with others that may find it interesting.

Disclaimer: I was SOOOO sick the day after I arrived from Paris. I had contracted Covid-19 weeks earlier and my health seemed pretty good. But, the day after I arrived in Isreal, I got quite ill. I had an infection in my throat, a fever and a very bad cough. Luckily Zig's cousin is a doctor and helped me get the medications needed to battle all the conditions. Thanks to all of them for having the patience to deal with me as I was a mess !! My voice during the trip is noticeably nasal. Special thanks to Zig and his sister's family for caring for me.

Journey Through Israel - Travel Documentary

Israel means a lot of different things to many people, and is one of the most diverse and dynamic countries in the world. Even though it’s often associated with political unrest and conflict, it’s also a beautiful place to travel to, with spectacular natural beauty, lively cities, ancient historic sites, incredible cuisine, and friendly, welcoming people.

On this journey, I’m traveling through the Holy Land, a region important to the three main monotheistic religions, and what is known today as Israel and Palestine.

In this episode, I’m exploring Israel, a country that was established in 1948, but is located in a region that has been at the crossroads of religions and cultures for many centuries. From the beautiful beaches and dynamic streets of modern Tel Aviv, to the religious landmarks and atmospheric alleys of the Old City of Jerusalem. From the salty water of the Dead Sea to the surreal desert landscapes of the Negev. Along the way, I meet some of the people that live here, and taste some of the local food.

I’ll do so from a traveler’s perspective, focusing on the positive stories and things to do. But here and there I also mention the conflict between Israel and Palestine, since it has impacted the lives of many people in the region. For those interested in the politics and modern history of the region, however, I recommend to read, watch, and listen to as many different sources as you can.

This is my first long trip after the pandemic started, and I’m grateful for the chance to travel again. It’s also my second visit to the region, and therefore I use both new and older footage for this video.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:

We begin this journey in Tel Aviv, Israel’s ‘beach city’. But it’s much more than that, it’s also an economic powerhouse and vibrant cultural center, known for its liberal and cosmopolitan attitude. The next stop is Caesarea, an interesting place for people who are interested in history. This ancient port city was an important place during Roman times, and was only recently excavated by archaeologists. Not far from here is Haifa, known particularly for its beautiful Bahai’s gardens.

I continue my travels in Akko, a stunning fortified city on the Mediterranean coast. Its winding alleys are a joy to get lost in, and it’s also worth discovering the underground tunnels. Driving onwards, I travel to the Golan Heights, an area popular for outdoor activities, with beautiful mountain landscapes and national parks. It’s also a contested place, as the Golan was captured by Israel from Syria, after Six Day War. As you travel in this region, you come across many reminders of the war.

Nazareth is one of Christianity’s holiest places, and the place where Jesus is said to have lived for many years. The Basilica of the Annunciation is the absolute highlight for many visitors, and the city is an important place for religious tourism. Also interesting is Nazareth Village, where you can imagine life during the time of Jesus.

Few places evoke so much imagination as Jerusalem, one of the world’s oldest cities, and holy to Jews, Muslims, and Christians. Walking (into) the Old City can be a magical experience, and to many visitors feels like entering a different world, and era. While Jerusalem is a spiritual and historic center, it’s also a dynamic city, where traditional lifestyles blend with cosmopolitan ideas.

We continue our journey in the Negev, a vast region in the South of Israel, comprising of arid mountains and surreal desert landscapes. Here, I visit a number of beautiful nature reserves, and also briefly visit a kibbutz. At the Southern tip of the Negev is Eilat, a popular holiday destination for Israeli families, but also a good place to go diving or snorkeling, as it’s located on the Red Sea.

I end the trip on the Dead Sea, known for its high salt levels, where people actually stay afloat. The high concentration of minerals is also said to have healing powers for people with certain skin problems. It’s not all good news though, as the Dead Sea’s water levels are receding at immense speed, mostly due to human activity, such as extraction for industrial purposes, and climate change.

A DAY TOUR IN NAZARETH, ISRAEL!!!

Hello,
Follow Me!
My name is Bishara and I am a tour guide. I wish to take you on a journey with me. The content of this video is a day tour in Nazareth with SOME guided information regarding Nazareth's holy sites and unbelievable attractions.

#Nazareth #Nazarethcity #Holyland #Holylandtour #Galilee

We begin the day in Nazareth city of course at Ein square which is located beside The Church of Mary's Well. The Church of Mary's well is a Greek Orthodox Church. Due to the fact that Explanation inside of the churches are not allowed, I will explain outside in the courtyard. After entering the church and being overwhelmed from the beautiful paintings and artwork we head down to the crypt and observe where water gushes out from a 2500 year old spring. The exact place where according to tradition Mary drew water almost everyday.
Then we walk by foot to the old Ottoman market, El-Souk in Arabic and see how the locals interact with each other. Here you can observe how life in Nazareth use to be during the Ottoman period and piecing together the puzzle and figuring out how the old market today was the main place of interaction between Nazarenes and all the visitors whom came from different parts of Galilee, the country and even from different parts of the world.
We will pass by the church of the Synagogue and walk straight to the Basilica of the Annunciation.
The church of the synagogue in Nazareth is the place where according to tradition, Jesus Christ read from holy scripture and revealed that he was the chosen messiah.
From there, we continue walking until we reach the Basilica of the Annunciation.
at the bottom entrance we take a look around the courtyard and observe all of the beautiful artwork donated by different catholic communities from around the world.
After that, We enter the Lower Basilica to The Grotto, The cave. The place where Mary lived at and the place where it is believed to be the sight of the Annunciation, where the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and gave her the good news that she was chosen to be the mother of Christ.

From there we proceed to a chapel where locals and pilgrims can pray quietly without any disturbance.

At the End, video from my drone captured at mount Precipice.

The childhood home of Jesus is often considered to be the cradle of Christianity. This largest city in the northern district of the country is also Israel's largest Arab city with a mixed population of Christian and Muslim Arabs. Moreover, with many monuments and ancient buildings, Nazareth is an important place for pilgrims and tourists from all over the world.
The number one attraction is the Church of the Annunciation, also referred to as the Basilica of the Annunciation. This Catholic church is one of the largest Christian sites of worship in the Middle East. The present-day building was built in 1969 but archaeological evidence shows that the first version stood here at least from the 3rd century AD. In the central part, you can see a large octagonal opening on the floor of the church. It offers a view of the publicly accessible lower level and the older structures below - the Grotto of the Annunciation. This is the place where the Archangel Gabriel announced the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary and it is also believed to be Mary's home, where Jesus spent his adolescence.
In total, there are eighteen churches of the Annunciation in Nazareth, including St. Gabriel's Church from the 4th century, also known as the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation. According to Eastern Orthodox belief, this is the place where the Virgin Mary was drawing spring water at the time of the Annunciation. The water from the spring not only still runs inside the apse of the church, but also feeds the adjacent site of Mary's Well, found on the south across the Church Square 130 meters away.
The old town of Nazareth is the most famous for its historical and extremely popular Shuk - the Arabic term for a market. This well-known attraction is full of colorful stalls and a variety of merchandise, where you can find many traditional Arab products. It is the perfect place to buy Oriental souvenirs.
The market district also houses the Synagogue Church. The 19th-century structure was built on top of the ruins of the original synagogue and today it belongs to the Greek-Catholic community. According to the Christian tradition, down under the church, there is the place where Jesus studied and prayed 2,000 years ago.
