This trip to Nanning in November really impressed me, and I fell in love with this unique city.
The people here are very kind and friendly. That afternoon, I was going to buy a banana on the side of the road, but the peddler gave me a banana for free. He told me that a banana is very cheap, and it doesn't matter if he gives me one.
I asked for directions here, and every time passers-by patiently guided me how to go, it made me feel very warm inside. I really, really like this city. In return, I shot a three-and-a-half-hour episode of the city as a thank you to the city.

Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is the political, economic and cultural center of the region.
It has the most prosperous economy in Southwest China, supplying an abundance of agricultural products to the whole Guangxi.
Bordering Vietnam, this city is neighbor to Guangzhou, close to Hong Kong and Macau, and faces Southeast Asia.
This advantageous location makes the city a commercial and communication center, opening China to Southeast Asia.
Pleasant climate endows Nanning with evergreen trees and fragrant flowers all year round, hence the name 'Green City.'
In such a beautiful land, more than 30 ethnic minority groups have been living harmoniously for 1,680 years.
Zhuang is the largest minority group of China. Over 90% of them live in Guangxi. Their history and ethnic culture add charm to the city.
Its beautiful subtropical scenery and exotic ethnic minority culture have been attracting millions of tourists for years.
Being a modern city, Nanning's accommodation and shopping are diverse and well developed for visitors.
Hotels and hostels of different standards can meet various needs. In the city's commercial center, supermarkets, department stores, specialty commodity streets, bookstores and other retail markets offer a variety of merchandise.

These places are the favorites of the younger generation; while malls and department stores are filled with people shopping until 23:00 every night.
One recent trend is that more and more people, especially young men, choose to study even after a hard day's work. As a result, there are many schools and organizations offering evening classes in remedial English, computer training and a variety of other subjects. This will make this city a more educated and sophisticated city in the future.

Nanning is the capital and largest city by population of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in Southern China. It is known as the Green City because of its abundance of lush subtropical foliage. Located in the South of Guangxi, Nanning is surrounded by a hilly basin, with a warm, monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate.
Beginning in 1949, Nanning's economy began developing beyond its former role as essentially a commercial and administrative centre, as it underwent sustained industrial growth. Today, Nanning is considered the economic, financial and cultural center of Guangxi, and the chief centre for the training of the Zhuang minority in Guangxi. The People's Park is located in the center of the city.
The city is home to several notable universities, including Guangxi University, Guangxi Medical University, Guangxi University for Nationalities and Guangxi Arts University.
Nanning is home of the 21st tallest building in the People's Republic of China, the Diwang International Commerce Center, at 276 m (906 ft), currently the tallest building in Guangxi and in southwestern China outwith Chongqing. The second tallest building in Nanning is the World Trade Commerce City at 218 meters. The city currently has seven buildings taller than 100 m (330 ft), built or under construction.
Nanning has many parks with tropical lush green landscape, it is one of the greenest cities in China, and it's known as Green City. Nanning's downtown skyline is rapidly changing and the city is becoming an important hub in China.
Recently, the government has begun a citywide beautification plan which aimed to further clean up the city and improve its image. This involved curtailing the number of street-side food vendors operating without proper licenses and restricting parking in busy streets. The program has achieved initial success, long-term efforts are still needed to deliver lasting results.

Nanning, a city in southern China near the Vietnam border, is capital of the Guangxi region.
Nanning is known as the “Green City,” and the city streets are filled with trees of every kind. There are streets devoted to different varieties of trees such as Cotton Tree Street and Banyan Tree Street. The beautiful scenery of the city is brimming with vitality.
With a warm tropical climate, it's known for green spaces such as People's Park, which includes expansive White Dragon Lake, a hilltop fort and a botanical garden.
Displays at the Guangxi Museum include hundreds of bronze and copper drums, important artifacts of the region's indigenous people.
The name Nanning literally means “Peace in the South” as historically the imperial government used Nanning as a stronghold to aid the integration of the south of China with the north.
Nowadays, although the city has undoubtedly grown into a burgeoning metropolis, the lush tropical greenery that has earned Nanning the title of “Green City” still gives this urban city an air of tranquillity. Nanning is the capital city of Guangxi and is, unsurprisingly, also its largest city.
It boasts a population of over 6.5 million people and is home to communities of 35 different ethnic minorities, including Zhuang, Yao, Hui, Miao, Dong, and Man people, to name but a few. Nanning is a melting pot of various cultures and this is reflected in its customs, cuisine, and linguistic diversity.
Due to its close proximity to neighbouring Guangdong province, where Cantonese culture prevails over Han Chinese culture, many of the older people in Nanning will speak Cantonese instead of Mandarin Chinese.
However, thanks to the diligent efforts of the Chinese government, many of the younger people in Nanning now speak a dialect of Mandarin Chinese. Since Nanning has a significant contingency of Zhuang people, many local people will also speak the Zhuang language and you’ll even find that many of the road signs have been transliterated into both Cantonese and the Zhuang language.
The city’s proximity to the Vietnam border and to Hong Kong and Macau means its culture has also been heavily influenced by these three neighbours. This makes Nanning one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse cities in China.
With over 3,500 different species of tropical plant thriving in the city, Nanning is also famed for its biodiversity. The city flower is the vibrant Chinese hibiscus and the city tree is the almond tree, both of which are prevalent throughout the city.
The verdant greenery is so prolific throughout Nanning that, from certain angles, it looks as though the city has been overgrown with vegetation. This natural beauty has given way to a number of local attractions, including the historic People’s Park, magnificent Qingxiu Mountain in the south of the city, tranquil South Lake, and Guangxi Medicinal Herb Botanical Garden.
The Detian Waterfall that rests on the border between Vietnam and China is particularly spectacular and can be easily reached from Nanning.
Since Nanning has become one of the foremost cities in China to study Mandarin Chinese, it has adapted to the sensitivities and palates of its many foreign visitors.
You can now find many Western-style restaurants, cafés, bars, and clubs littered throughout the city. This is surprisingly unusual for a southern Chinese city, even one as large as Nanning.
The nightlife in the city is especially vibrant and, when the lights switch on at dusk, the cityscape looks irresistibly dazzling.

China: NANNING city review
City on the South of China, close to the beach and Vietnam, and it is capital of Guangxi state. It has tropical climate, doe in my time it was quite pleasant and much cooler then other Asian countries like Vietnam and Thailand. Nanning has many parks and great transportation system that works really well. During my stay I have not encounter not even one traffic jam, probably just coincidence, and I was not in the right place at right time, but maybe also a fact that there are not that many cars on the road, as you need to be quite rich to have a car, and a lot of motorbikes, which are electric, that contributes no noise and air pollution. During my stay I have not sensed any air pollution, also the streets are quite clean in the centre, but out of centre there is not that clean.

Hi friends, in this episode I’m gonna discover Nanning. Nanning is the capital of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi, China. The city is located in the south-central part of Guangxi on the north bank of the Yong and lies some 30 km below the confluence of the You and the Zuo rivers.
There are many interesting things to do in Nanning and many scenic places to visit. Here are some of the recommended tourist attractions for you.
1. Mount Qingxiu Park - This magnificent park with beautiful manmade lakes and gardens makes it captivating and well visited in spring, summer, autumn and winter.
2. Nanhu Lake Park - A beautiful greenery park of over 200 acres with a beautiful lake surrounded by unique exhibits of bonsai, orchid garden and tropical plants
3. Detian Waterfalls - The two waterfalls with a combined width of 208meters, making it the second largest transnational waterfall after Niagara Falls.
4. Mt Qingxiu Park - About 5km southeast of the city is Qingxiu Park which offers the tourist many relaxing and different scenery throughout the park. Upon entering the park, the visitor can see the beautiful manmade lakes and gardens which makes this park captivating.
6. Nanhu Lake Park - South Lake is a beautiful greenery park of over 200 acres with a beautiful lake. In the park, there are unique exhibits of bonsai, palm trees, orchid garden and tropical plants.
7. Detian Waterfall - Detian Falls is about 200km west from Nanning requiring a three hour drive from the city center by car. It lies of the Sino-Vietnamese border. It is 100 meters wide and sixty meters deep, lying directly beside Vietnam’s Ban Gioc Falls. The two waterfalls with a combined width of 208meters, making it the second largest transnational waterfall after Niagara Falls.
8. Guangxi Nanning Great Hall of the People - Highlights Guangxi Nanning Great Hall of the People, a smaller version of The Great Hall of the People in Beijing, a state building used for legislative and ceremonial activities by the government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the ruling Communist Party of China.
9. Daming Mountain - Daming Mountain is 76 kilometers from Nanning city. It is known for its panoramic views and you will find plenty of spectacular and picturesque scenery for your photos. This mountain has many peaks with its highest at 1760 meters above sea levels. There are various viewing and photo-taking stops along the way to the top of the mountain where you see ranges of mountains peaks, steep valleys and infinity skylines. One of the popular walking trail at the top of the mountain is the “Tour of Health Preservation” route. Health preservation is associated with health nursing which is important in maintaining life and extending longevity. The full walking route is about 1.5 kilometers which begins with the small stops “Autumn Bamboo Shoot” and ends with “Golden Tortoise Waterfall”.
10. Guangxi Science & Technology Museum - This attraction is located in Nanning and is adjacent to Guangxi National Square and Guangxi People’s Hall. The main building exhibition has four levels. Guangxi Science and Technology Museum venues to “explore • Technology • Innovation” as its theme, appropriate scale, full-featured, the exhibition theme, great tech, high degree of audience participation.
11. Yiling Cave - Upon entrance to this tourist site, visitors are introduced to the Zhuang minority ethnic group culture, traditions and lifestyle. This include listening to a folksong which are often sang to express friendship and love. Also get to taste local snacks such as glutinous buns and rice and tea in a bamboo house. See unique items such as the first stone jar and and first stone roller of the Zhuang Minority.
12. Chaoyang Square
Chao Yang Square is a local shopping spot for many tourists as well as the locals.
