Nandyal is a town in Kurnool district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Nandyal mandal in Nandyal revenue division
The town was originally called Nandalluru. It derives its name from Nandi, the vehicle of Siva. Aalaya means house/ dwelling in Sanskrit. Since it is surrounded by nine nandis it is called Nandi Aalaya which, over period of time, became Nandyala or Nandyal, the present name of the place. These nine temples are Garudanandi, Krishnanandi (also called Vishnunandi), Mahanandi, Naganandi, Prathamanandi, Shivanandi, Somanandi, Suryanandi and Vinayakanandi. These temples draw pilgrims from various places. Nandyal had a population of 200,746 at the time of the 2011 Census.

During the time of Maha Shivaratri festival and other major festival time many people come to visit nandyal or Nandyala town to visit the nine nandi temples . it starts from Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Temple nandyal or Ayyappa Swamy Temple Nandyal , where Shiva idol is there and people visit first there and pray and then go to each nandi temple in order of visiting first nandi temple and ending with nine nandi temple and after visiting all these temple will come back to Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Temple nandyal or Ayyappa Swamy Temple Nandyal where they started the journey and finish the journey.

Mahanandi, is a village located east of the Nallamala Hills near Nandyal, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is surrounded by forests. Within 15 km of Mahanandi, there are nine Nandi shrines known as Nava nandulu. Mahanandi is one of the Nava Nandis. The Mahanandiswara Swamy Temple, an important shrine, is located here. Mahanandi is about 21 km from Nandyal. The nearest airport is at Hyderabad, which is about 215 km from Kurnool, and the nearest railway station is at Nandyal.There are 2 routes to reach Mahanandi from Nandyal town. One route via Thimmapuram and is the shortest, around 17 km from bus stand. Another route, via giddalur road you need to take left diversion at Boyalakuntla cross and it will be around 24 km distance from nandyal.

JSW Cement, part of US$ 14 billion JSW Group, has constructed a new Balaji temple in Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh. Located in Bilkalguduru village, the newly constructed temple has been built using black limestone and spans across 2.5 acres. The primary architecture of the Balaji temple embodies the long-standing tradition of Indian temple typology and the design is based on the 10th century temple of the same deity located at Tirupati. The new Balaji temple at Nandyal comprises two shrines of balaji and varahaswamy in the form of black limestone ziggurats. At JSW, the Balaji temple project was led by Mrs Anushree Jindal and mandated Indian architect Sameep Padora of Sameep Padora & Associates (sP+a) as its lead architect. Funded through the CSR spends of JSW Cement, the company has dedicated the new Balaji temple to the community of Nandyal.
Through this temple project, JSW Cement’s aim was to bring together the community’s cultural expectations for a temple as well as revitalise the water source that had run dry since many years. The area surrounding the location identified for the temple is known for its cotton and chilli farms. Thus, revitalizing the water source was essential to restart the agricultural economy of the region.
According to Mrs Anushree Jindal of JSW, “JSW Cement believes in collaborating with local communities to empower them for a better future. I feel blessed and privileged to have facilitated the creation of a pious, safe haven of worship for the local community of Nandyal. Parth and I are pleased to dedicate the new Balaji temple to the local communities & devotees of Lord Venkateswara. This temple is designed to offer a tranquil and peaceful social space for the local community members. The area where this temple is constructed has a natural canal which had gone completely dry. We were very clear that the new temple should be designed thoughtfully with a view to revitalize the canal and bring its water back for the benefit of local villagers residing in this area.”
