Places to see in ( Pau - France ) Chateau de Pau
The Château de Pau (English: Pau Castle) is a castle in the centre of the city of Pau, the capital of Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Béarn. It dominates that quarter of the city. Henry IV of France and Navarre was born here on December 13, 1553 and it was once used by Napoleon as a holiday home during his period of power. The château has been classified as a Monument historique since 1840 by the French Ministry of Culture. Nowadays it contains a collection of tapestries.
Pau Castle was founded in the Middle Ages. Work before any military, is a castle typically built on top of the hill overlooking the Gave bounded by ravine Hédas. Since its construction, the castle takes on a symbolic importance: providing a stockade (poor, in Bearn) designate, by metonymy, the city itself. These piles, symbolizing loyalty and righteousness, are each asaxis mundiin a version of béarnaise. In the twelfth century Gaston IV of Béarn built three towers at the fortress. They are called Mazères Billère and Montauser.
The fourteenth century will see a figure emblematic of Bearn, who leaves his mark at the Chateau de Pau: Gaston III of Foix-Béarn, better known as the Gaston Phoebus. This warlord, in a difficult position because, by their possessions, under the leadership of the enemy kingdoms of France and England, makes the Beam, gift of God, a united and autonomous region. Fébus there built the tower of brick, high thirty-three meters, and it burns the inscription: Febus me (Phoebus gave me, in Bearn).
During the Renaissance, installation of the court of Navarre in 1512, significantly altered the appearance of the castle. Originally a fortress, it now became a pleasure residence. Henri d'Albret resided with his wife Marguerite d'Angoulême, sister of François I, best known as Marguerite de Navarre, author of The'Heptaméron. They mark the place with their initials, still present on the walls and ceilings, and great care was taken to maintain and reproduce them even over the subsequent restorations.
But their grand-son who gives the famous castle it is today: not by any architectural endeavor, nor even by his own will. The future Henri IV takes the trouble to be born December 13, 1553, and the story did the rest. The fame of the king, baby boy cradled in a turtle shell preserved by the Béarn through the vicissitudes of revolutions, gives the castle, which did not see him grow up or die, a particular taste, and the right to claim honors those who give birth supermen. But the real recognition of the king is posthumous, and we soon forgot the castle that he was born, except to gather Navarre and Bearn in the kingdom of France (Louis XIII signed the treaty in 1620).
Louis-Philippe, which would combine the ideals of the Revolution and those of the monarchy, had the idea of restoring the castle of the man who reconciled Catholic and Protestant into a royal residence. Reside there, however. The castle was mostly gilded prison in 1848 the emir Abd El-Kader, conquered by France Algeria. The visit to Nérac revolves around its navigable river, the Baïse. From the Saint-Nicolas church or the Petit Nérac viewpoint, discover the port, the Old Bridge and the tanneries which now house art galleries and restaurants.

Locaboat Holland | BEST way to see AMSTERDAM? Penichette 1020FB
We spent 7 days boating along the beautiful canals of the region of Amsterdam on a Locaboat Penichette 1020FB.
Along the way we spent time in Amsterdam, where we ticked a few things off the Trip Advisor list. In Edam we visited the Edam Cheese Market. Sweets and Antiques in Alkmaar gave us a new perspective on cakes and sweets and we found complete tranquility in Loosdrechtse Plassen where we stayed for two nights.

The Impressive Château de Duras
We visit the 14th century Château de Duras, an architectural wonder, which has been both a fortress and a stately home over its 900-year history. We wander through its 35 rooms and museum.
Bordeaux
The Bordeaux region, with its special ‘terroir’, has been producing wine for around 2,000 years and some of the château estates have gained worldwide recognition for their superb and long-lived vintages. On your cruise aboard Rosa between Boé and Castets, there will be the opportunity to learn more about the complex science of viticulture on tours to such places as Saint-Emilion, including of course a tasting of some fine wines. We will also explore the countryside surrounding the Val de Garonne and see towns such as historic Nérac and elegant Marmande.
What is hotel barging?
Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especiallly on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers.
This is cruising, but in a very different style to ships plying the big rivers or oceans. The pace is slow, with a 6 day cruise covering maybe just 50 miles along a rural canal. Passengers can walk or bike the towpaths as their floating hotel glides gently along. Guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere, high levels of personal service and immersion into the culture, history and gastronomy of regions of Europe such as Burgundy, the Midi, or the Italian Veneto.
Every day there is an excursion, perhaps to a chateau, a vineyard for a wine tasting, or some other ‘off the beaten track’ location. About half of European Waterways’ bookings are for whole boat charters, ideal for families. Otherwise, clients book a cabin to join other like-minded people. Auch est vraiment une belle destination de visite.
Pour ce qui est de la visite des caves, nous nous attendions pas à cela donc on était un peu déçu. Par contre nous avons pu découvrir les vin du Buzet que nous ne connaissions pas.
