Murud, popularly known as Murud Janjira is a coastal village located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Surrounded by ancient forts, sandy beaches, betel palms and coconut trees, this is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in Maharashtra.
The prime attraction of this place is the Janjira Fort. The fort was constructed by the Siddi Dynasty in the 12th century. It is believed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj tried six times to capture the fort and failed every time. It houses a mosque, many palaces, quarter for officers and a water tank. The other tourist places to visit are Murud Beach, Nawab Palace, Bassein Fort, Bassein Beach, Kasa Fort and more. Winter months from October to February are the best to visit Murud Janjira.
Murud-Janjira is the local name for a fort situated on an island just off the coastal village of Murud, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, India.

Thousand year old ancient rock cut caves designed in a very intricate manner offer a pleasing site to the tourists.
Panhalekaji Caves/ Unhavare Hot Water Springs:
Ancient, rock cut caves believed to be more than a thousand years old are a treat to architecture lovers. Hindu and Buddhist sculptures cover the walls. These caves are located on the banks of the Kotjai river. Upstream this river, situated amidst a picturesque valley, you can bathe in natural hot springs. The water is believed to have medicinal value to cure some skin diseases.

This video is about our journey that started from Murud Janjira near Alibaug, we went to Diveagar beach and then finally reached our destination Harihareshwar in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
This episode was shot on 19th Sept, We started the Konkan tour from Mumbai on 17th sept and reached Goa on 2nd Oct.

Murud beach visit followed by breakfast at Patil Khaneval in Murud, Poha - Rs 30 & Alu Vadi - Rs 50 for 5 pcs.
Proceeded towards Janjira Fort - 4 km from Murud, Imran (boatman) - 7057379538. We could not visit Janjira fort as it was closed for tourists, During monsoon time you cannot visit fort.
Janjira to Agardanda - 5 km from Janjira village, we took ferry to Dighi beach from Agardanda Jetty. Then we proceeded around 15 km towards Diveagar beach.
Diveagar On Holiday - Rs 1200 for double occupancy, for extra bed it is Rs 200 per person. Contact person - Siddhes kosabe - 7769962779 ( homestay owner)
After visiting the Diveagar beach we visited the Shrivardhan beach, Raj Holiday Homestay at Shriwardhan, Rajendra wani - 9881857960 ( Homestay owner)
There is an MTDC resort at Harihareshwar - we did the night stay here. There are different categories of rooms here in this resort, rates may vary depending upon weekday or weekend or Holidays or off-season or peak season. We paid Rs 2800 plus tax without a meal, in the coming days, the rates will include a meal as well. There are also a few huts, which would cost you around - Rs 3200 plus taxes.

The region is known for its people, its unique cuisine, numerous beautiful temples, water sports and more. It's also a great place for a road trip - in fact, you can do one right from the top to the end of Konkan in Karnataka. Today's story is also about a road trip in Konkan from Mumbai to Murud. As I travel around in this region, we explore the history, culture, food, adventure and more over this almost 20-minute film!
The prime attraction of Murud is Janjira Fort which has a rather unique history, and the version changes based on who narrates the story to you (similar is the case with online resources as well). I've narrated the version that the fishermen told me, however, according to other legends the Kolis from the coastal village had first built a wooden structure on the rock, and the Siddis later took over the rock and built the present day fort. Most forts in India have evolved this way. A good example is the Korlai Fort which was built by the Portuguese first and then taken over by the Marathas who built many fortifications there as well, and finally the British who made their own additions. The history of forts is always fascinating!
Beyond the Janjira fort there's so much more to do and explore there, including the 1st-century Buddhist Caves at Kuda.
Overall, Konkan is a wonderful destination for those looking to experience the beauty of India's west coast. From its stunning beaches and rich cultural heritage to its delicious cuisine and picturesque hill stations, Konkan has something to offer everyone.

Located in Murud, near Dapoli, the beach of the same name is a favoured addition to many ‘places to visit in Dapoli’ itineraries. Surrounded by rolling hills on three sides, it is a vast stretch of black sand against the clear-blue Arabian Sea that runs for 1.75 kilometres.

we cover all tousit places in konkan and near by konkan.There are several places to visit in Konkan Coast owing to the long coastline along the beautiful blue azure waters of the Arabian sea. While Tarkali is famous for its golden sand beaches, Harihareshwar is known for its temple and rocky Harihareshwar Beach. The famous Ganpatipule, is well known for the Ganapati temple on the shore and also its beautiful beach. Konkan nature is to beautiful in mansoon. and having a best beach in konkan or konkan village . in konkon they celebrating a konkani ranmanus also.
Another tourist place in Konkan that is well known is Alibaug. The beautiful Alibag beach is popular amongst tourists. Alibaug also has few other beaches out of which Varsoli and Nagaon Beach are well known. The Kolaba/Aligarh Fort also attracts tourists. Another must visit place in the Konkan Coast is Ratnagiri, famous for the Thiba Palace and also Ratnadurg Fort.
Tourists also love visiting Chiplun where the star attraction is Sawatsada Waterfall. Other popular places to visit on the Konkan coast are Dapoli, Murud, Kashid etc. Most of these places are also known for the water sports they offer to the tourists.

From New Channel ( Travelling & Motorcycle Modification ) The name Murud-Janjira originates its name from the Arabic word ‘Jazeera’ meaning “Island”. One can take a boat from the Rajapuri Jetty to reach the fort. The fort was originally built by the Sultans and later various modifications were done by the Marathas. The fort was a full-fledged living fort with natural lakes, offices, palaces, religious centers in it. During the times of conflicts, the roof of the fort was used as a watchtower. Now the roof provides a splendid view of the blue, crystal clear water of the Arabian Sea and golden sands of Murud Beach.

In the Murud-Janjira Fort, there were around 500 cannons that were used in fights. Now, only a few cannons exist and are very popular among visitors. Other than that, the fort has housed some of the beautiful tombs, water tanks, and a few stone sculptures. The very popular gate of the fort is the entrance gate which is known as “Sher Darwaza” (Tiger’s Door) with a small sculpture of six elephants and a tiger.

Two days in murud janjira | hidden place in murud | Best place to visit
Murud is known for its widespread sandy beaches adorned with majestic forts and outlined by palms and coconut trees, creating perfect holiday scenery.
Murud, in the Raigad district with resorts and natural beauty beckoning you, is the place to be for a relaxed, modest vacation, with sparkling golden beaches. Murud has adventure and spirituality, infused into its pristine landscapes. Apart from the world-class beaches, there is the Murud Janjira Fort, Kasa Fort, Gol Gumbaz, and a few others. The nearby hills of Murud-Janjira are home to a beautiful shrine dedicated to Lord Dattatreya.
1) MURUD Beach: You can enjoy swimming & bathing in Sea water in morning time and then photography thereafter. You also can enjoy boat rides but it is little costly.
2) MURUD VILLAGE: Those who lives in Cities like Mumbai are very much interested in visiting village. Here you can see village houses, farms, village schools interact will villagers etc.
3) HARNAI FISH MARKET& FORT:
HARNAI FISH MARKET is very famous. you have to board vehicle for reaching there as it is around 8 km away from Murud Village. Fort also can be seen there.

How to reach Murud Janjira
By road-
Murud is very well connected via roads. There are regular buses from Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai. If you are a budget travel this is a very decent option. If you like traveling according to your own schedule and time, taxi services are the best. If you have a vehicle of your own, that is a very convenient and great option.
By train-
Roha is the closest station if you want to travel to Murud via train. The train frequency is good. On reaching Roha, there are cabs available which go to Murud. The cab ride is approximately one hour.
Local transport in Murud Janjira-
It's best to have your own vehicle. But if you don't, the auto rickshaws are the next best option.
