World Famous Huge Monastery in a Tiny Provincial Russian Village
Saint Seraphim-Diveyevo Monastery (Свято-Троицкий Серафимо-Дивеевский Монастырь) is a monastery of nuns (convent) in Diveyevo settlement near Sarov (12 km), and near the city of Nizhny Novgorod (185 km), in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. It is situated in a region considered to have immense spiritual significance
The convent is famous because of Saint Seraphim of Sarov (one of the most revered saints in Rusia). He served as Elder (Staretz -Старец) for the nuns of this monastery, though he only travelled to the convent once during his lifetime. He was a monk at the nearby monastery of Sarov. After the fall of communism, his relics, which had been feared lost, were discovered in the storeroom of a museum of atheism in Saint Petersburg and solemnly transferred to the Seraphim-Diveyevo monastery, which has come to be named after him.
The monastery is also famous for possessing the only portrait of Saint Seraphim that was painted of him by a contemporary, the Diveyevo Portrait. During the years of Communist persecution, the portrait was smuggled out of Russia and is kept to this day in the Novo-Diveyevo Convent in Nanuet, New York.

Street Tapestry by Tamarin
Murom is a historical city in Vladimir Oblast. located on the River Oka.he Primary Chronicle ( Повѣсть времѧньныхъ лѣтъ) mentions the settlement as early as 862. It is, thus, one of the oldest cities in Russia. In 900 CE, Murom was an important trading post from the Volga Bulgaria ( or also known as Volga-Kama Bulghar, a state that existed between the 7th - 13th centuries at the confluence of the Volga and Kama Rivers )to the Baltic Sea.
Between 1010 and 1393, it was the capital of a separate principality, whose rulers included Saint Gleb, assassinated in 1015 and canonized in 1071.

Nizhny Novgorod (Russian: Нижний Новгород, is the administrative centre of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and the Volga Federal District. The city is located at the confluence of the Oka and the Volga rivers in Central Russia, with a population of over 1.2 million residents, up to roughly 1.7 million residents in the urban agglomeration. Nizhny Novgorod is the sixth-largest city in Russia, the second-most populous city on the Volga, as well as the Volga Federal District. It is an important economic, transportation, scientific, educational and cultural center in Russia and the vast Volga-Vyatka economic region, and is the main center of river tourism in Russia. In the historic part of the city there are many universities, theaters, museums and churches.
The city was founded on 4 February 1221 by Prince Yuri II of Vladimir. In 1612, Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky organized an army for the liberation of Moscow from the Poles and Lithuanians. In 1817, Nizhny Novgorod became a great trade center of the Russian Empire. In 1896, at a fair, an All-Russia Exhibition was organized. During the Soviet period, the city turned into an important industrial center. In particular, the Gorky Automobile Plant was constructed in this period. Then the city was given the nickname Russian Detroit. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union the city was renamed Nizhny Novgorod once again. In 1985, the Nizhny Novgorod Metro was opened. In 2016, Vladimir Putin opened the new 70th Anniversary of Victory Plant, which is part of the Almaz-Antey Air and Space Defence Corporation.
The Kremlin – the main center of the city – contains the main government agencies of the city and the Volga Federal District. The demonym for a Nizhny Novgorod resident is нижегородец (nizhegorodets) for male or нижегородка (nizhegorodka) for female, rendered in English as Nizhegorodian. Novgorodian is inappropriate; it refers to a resident of Veliky Novgorod, in northwestern Russia. Nizhny Novgorod was one of the host cities of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Novgorod Oblast (Russian: Новгоро́дская о́бласть,) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Veliky Novgorod. Some of the oldest Russian cities, including Veliky Novgorod and Staraya Russa, are located in the oblast. The historic monuments of Veliky Novgorod and surroundings have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Город расположен на живописном берегу Оки, которая отделяет его от Нижегородской области. Историческое наследие Мурома объясняет большое количество достопримечательностей: церкви и монастыри, гражданские постройки XIX века, величественный памятник былинному герою Илье Муромцу. А в окрестностях города расположен великолепный Муромский мост – достояние нашего времени, но это уже отдельная тема.

Holy Trinity convent - monastery Murom diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, located in the city of Murom. Known fact that it saved the relics of saints Peter and Fevronia, who are revered in Russia as the patrons of family and marriage.
The monastery was founded in the second quarter of the XVII century (1643) Murom merchant Tarasy Borisovich Tsvetnova, according to some local historians - on the site of the so-called old fort where initially during the XI-XIII centuries have wooden cathedral in honor of Saints Boris and Gleb, and later there was a wooden Holy Trinity Church.
In 1642-1643 years' care and securing such Tarasy Tsvetnova in place of a wooden church was built Holy Trinity Cathedral of the stone has been preserved to date. In 1643 Tarasy Tsvetnov asked the Bishop of Ryazan and Murom permission for the foundation of the cathedral of the monastery, and he received such consent.
The main decoration of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity are gilded wrought-iron crosses - masterpieces blacksmith work Murom craftsmen of XVII century - and the glazed tiles of the same century with a variety of ornaments. In the years 1648-1652 in the southern part of the monastery on the same foundation were built tent Gate Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and slotted tiered bell tower.
Свя́то-Тро́ицкий же́нский монасты́рь — монастырь Муромской епархии Русской православной церкви, расположенный в городе Муроме. Известен тем, что в нём сохраняются мощи святых Петра и Февронии, которые почитаются в России как покровители семьи и брака.
Монастырь основан во второй четверти XVII века (1643) муромским купцом Тарасием Борисовичем Цветновым, по мнению ряда краеведов — на месте так называемого «старого городища», где первоначально в период XI—XIII веков располагался деревянный кафедральный собор в честь святых Бориса и Глеба, а позднее существовал деревянный Свято-Троицкий храм.
В 1642—1643 годах «тщанием и снисканием» Тарасия Цветнова на месте деревянного храма был возведен Свято-Троицкий каменный собор, сохранившийся до настоящего времени. В 1643 году Тарасий Цветнов просил у епископа Рязанского и Муромского разрешения на основание при соборе монастыря, и такое согласие он получил.
Главным украшением Свято-Троицкого собора являются кованные золоченые кресты — шедевры кузнечной работы муромских умельцев XVII века, — и поливные изразцы того же столетия с разнообразными орнаментами. Изразцы придают Троицкому собору особое изящество и неповторимое своеобразие, отличающее его от других муромских храмов. Стиль, в котором создан этот собор, называется русское узорочье.
В 1648—1652 годах в южной части монастыря на одном фундаменте были построены надвратная шатровая церковь во имя Казанской иконы Божией Матери и прорезная многоярусная колокольня.

At first we visited Murom History and Art Museum.
The main museum building - a three-story stone mansion with an attic and outbuildings XVIII-XIX centuries. This manor Zworykin (Day 4). The building houses the historical, ethnographic exhibition and ancient Russian art, the main depository of the museum. Zworykin House - the best in town merchant house of the last century. Here I was born and spent his youth scholar with a worldwide reputation, the father of television, Vladimir K. Zworykin (1889-1982) a talented inventor in the field of radio electronics, emigrated to the United States. In 1989, in his own house a memorial plaque was installed.
Open in 1996, the Art Gallery (Day 6) occupies a two-storey building of the former city council. The four halls of the second floor with a total area of over 200 square meters. . M presents all the best art collections of the museum - a collection of Russian and Western European Art XVII-XIX centuries: paintings, drawings, furniture and porcelain. On the first floor there are scientific library and archive of the museum, art gallery works under the arches. In 2000 he opened the first exhibition in the Exhibition Centre (Moscow, 13), where you can spend three to four exhibitions at the same time (with an area of 400 sq. M).
The exhibition center is located on the busiest street in one of the best merchant houses of the last century.

Главные здания музея — трехэтажный каменный особняк с мезонином и надворные постройки XVIII—XIX вв. Это усадьба Зворыкиных (Первомайская, 4). В здании располагаются исторические, этнографические экспозиции и древнерусское искусство, основные фондохранилища музея. Дом Зворыкиных — лучший в городе купеческий особняк прошлого века. Здесь родился и провел юность учёный с мировым именем, «отец телевидения», Владимир Кузьмич Зворыкин (1889—1982) талантливый изобретатель в области радиоэлектроники, эмигрировавший в Соединенные Штаты Америки. В 1989 году на его родном доме была установлена мемориальная доска.
Открытая в 1996 году Художественная галерея (Первомайская, 6) занимает двухэтажное здание бывшей Городской управы. В четырех залах второго этажа общей площадью более 200 кв. м. представлены все лучшие художественные коллекции музея — собрание русского и западноевропейского искусства XVII—XIX вв: живопись, графика, мебель, фарфор. На первом этаже располагаются научная библиотека и архив музея, работает художественный салон «Под сводами». В 2000 году открылись первые выставки в Выставочном центре (Московская, 13), где можно проводить три-четыре выставки одновременно (его площадь 400 кв. м).
Выставочный центр расположен на самой оживленной улице города в одном из лучших купеческих домов прошлого века.
