Jharni Narasimha Temple - The only Narasimha Temple inside water | Unseen Narasimha's Temple

Jharni Narasimha is a unique temple of Lord Narasimha situated 300 mtrs deep inside the cave. Here Lord Narasimha killed the rakshasa Jharasura; the latter requested Lord Narasimha to bless him with His shelter. Hence the rakshasa is present in the form of water. Devotees have to walk in the waist deep crystal clear water to have darshan of Lord Narasimha. It is indeed an enthralling experience to visit this temple and be blessed here.

Doddabasappa Temple, Dambal

Doddabasappa Temple is one of the major architectural monuments in Gadag district. The temple was built during the period of the Later Chalukyas – the Western or Kalyani Chalukya dynasty. Dambal used be a major center of Buddhism till the 12th century. There is Buddhist temple in Dambal that has an inscription dating back to the 10th century.
The temple's construction is based on the 24-pointed uninterrupted star shaped plan. The material used for the construction for the temple is soapstone. In an 'interrupted' stellar plan, the stellar outline is interrupted by orthogonal (right-angle) projections in the cardinal directions. The Nandi, a vehicle of Lord Shiva, is facing in the east direction. The Doddabasappa temple represents the mature development of the Chalukyan art which originated from basic Dravidian architecture of South India. A star shape is obtained by rotating a square about its center. The star points form equidistant projections. The angles and re-entrant angles thus formed make the perimeter of the outerwall of the shrine. The upper tiers of the seven-tiered superstructure look like cogged wheels with 48 dents. The pillars in this temple are finely chiseled and complicated but lack the elegance of those at the Kasivisvesvara Temple in Lakkundi.
Depending on the dedication of the temple, either Vishnu or Shiva would occupy the central position in this arrangement. The entrance to the sanctum is elaborately decorated on either side with designs that are floral containing tiny images of dancers, musicians and even a mithuna couple (Gemini). In the main mandapa (hall) there are three images, one of the five headed Brahma and his vehicle (vahana), the goose, and two images are of Surya, the Sun God. The temple has two doorways each with a porch, one facing south and the other facing east.
The Basappa temple has 2 doorways with a structure, one facing south and the different facing east. The east facing door has on either sides, the remains of elegant header decoration, and an open hall type of pillared extension containing a large recumbent image of Nandi (bull) that faces the shrine.
Jappadabavi is an ancient temple well discovered recently. Dambal is a village. The village also has a fort which is in ruined state.

Location :

Huvina hadagali has a group of temples each with separate deity and are referred to as Kallesvara, Channakeshava, Benne Krishna, Yoganarayana. From the inscription it becomes clear that Huvinahadagali was a great Shaiva & Vishnava center and was under Rebbaladevi ,wife of the brave Brahmin general Ravideva during the period of Kalyana Chalukya. Huvu means flower; Hadaga means boat and Halli means village. Therefore it is a village of flower boat. It is believed that when the city of Vijayanagara flourished flowers needed for temples and palace were floated down from Tungabadhra from this place. As if to confirm this even today it can be seen number of old wells and gardens in this place. The Kalleswara temple in the town of Huvinahadagali, is a Kalyana Chalukya temple as evidenced by an inscription of Kalideva has been dated to 11th century A.D. The Kalleswara temple consists of a Garbhagriha, an Antarala, Mandapa and two Mukhamandapas at the east and south.

These temples were built by Amarashilpi Jakanachari , a legendary sculptor credited with building many fine temples, including the famous sculptures at Belur and Halebidu in Karnataka.

What is this Structure ? A step well..? @ Dambal, Gadag, Karnataka, India #templesofancientindia

#templesofancientindia
The temple's video is here ..

Are we so useless that we cannot maintain this beautiful ancient structure ???

Can anyone tell the story behind this structure... Any one from Karnataka...? Found this on a visit to Dambal, Karnataka. No signage, no description is available. Searched google. No authentic info is there.

There was no soul in sight within a radius of 3 km of the structure when I visited. Even the villagers were not aware of something like this, which is quite amazing. Later I visited the e Doddabasappa temple.
There is an old inscription on a huge stone slab near the eastern gate adjacent to Nandi Statue and refers to the reign of the Western Chalukya King Someshwara IV. It throws some light on the raison-d'etre of this Water Body??.
I am posting the overall transcript . It speaks about repairs to two local water tanks. for dredging and repairs in stone and wood to the sluice of the local tank called GONADREDGING and repairs in stone and wood to the sluice of the local tank called GONA-SAMUDRA

The complete translation is as under .

[ This is dated Saka 1106, Krodhin, Ashadha-amavasya, Monday, solar eclipse, Sankranti, corresponding to 1184 A.D., July 9, Monday. Neither Sankranti norsolar eclipse occurred on the said date.
It records the gift of income derived from the panaya tax on all the gardens excepting those endowed as sarvamanya to the deity Mailabesvara, made in the presence of the god Svayambhu at Dharmapura by Mahapradhana, Senadhipati, Dandanayaka Tejimayya and his subordinates Bakana-dandanayaka and Revarasa, for dredging and repairds in stone and wood to the sluice of the local tank called Gonadredging and repairs in stone and wood to the sluice of the local tank called Gona-samudra. The gift was entrusted to the sixteen Sethis of the village, who also made gifts of land to the same tank, in conjunction with the nakharas. Dharmapura, also mentioned as Dharmavolal, was situated in Masavadi division. The record which contains a few Sanskirt verses also, was composed by poet Nagadeva Bhatta, son of Bammarasa ]

May be, one of the tanks mentioned is this particular one.. May be.. May not be.. The temple's video is here ..
