Check out the Mayberry Jail, a re-creation of “The Courthouse” seen in many episodes of the popular television show series at Wally's Service Station (336-789-6743). Enjoy a pork chop sandwich at Snappy Lunch (only open for breakfast and lunch (336-786-4931, Stop by Floyd’s Barber Shop (hours vary), Wally’s Service Station, the Mayberry Courthouse and Emmit’s Fix It Shop. Actor Andy Griffith was born in Mount Airy, and the town is believed to have been the basis for Mayberry, the setting of the TV shows The Andy Griffith Show and Mayberry RFD. The community holds an annual Mayberry Days celebration during the last weekend of September; 30,000 attended in 2009, and 50,000 attended for the show's 50th anniversary in 2010. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro estimates the town receives $5 million each year as a result. Surviving members of the cast, along with family members of other cast members, often visit. The 2012 event was slated to have Karen Knotts (Don's daughter) and George Lindsey Jr. (eponymous son of the actor who portrayed Goober).
Several Ford Galaxie police cars, painted to resemble those used on the show, give rides to guests. A barber shop has been named Floyd's.
The Andy Griffith Museum, founded in 2009 by Emmett Forrest, attracts 200 visitors a day. The 2,500-square-feet museum, located half a mile from Griffith's childhood home, houses the world's largest collection of Andy Griffith memorabilia.

EXPLORING MT. AIRY, NC | Hometown of Andy Griffith
Today we are making our way to where Mayberry is Real in Mt. Airy, NC. We heard there was a mural called “The Five Faces of Andy”. It was done entirely with spray paint and shows Andy Griffith’s face at five stages of his career. If you look closely you will see the outline of Pilot Mountain as well. The mural was created by Jeks in May of 2022. You know while we are in Mt. Airy we also have to stop at Snappy Lunch for their Famous Porkchop Sandwich. We also came across something really cool made out of bricks but you will have to watch the video to find out.
Mrs. Yeti wants you know that she did not sit in the car all day LOL.
Anyway – let’s go see what we can find today.

Adventures in Mayberry [Visit Mt. Airy, Mayberry Campground, and a Waterfall Hike]
This weekend we went back in time to a simpler day and enjoyed old fashioned adventures in Mayberry, NC (Mt. Airy)! We camped with our RV at Mayberry Campground, conveniently located to Mt. Airy and other area attractions. We spent a day in the quaint small town of Mt. Airy, NC, where Andy Griffith grew up, and the town that inspired the Andy Griffith show!
We also take you to two beautiful locations for refreshing waterfall hikes! The first was at Hanging Rock State Park, and the second at Carter Falls. We hike down and wade/swim at the base of the falls, enjoying the feel of the cool mountain water and the natural beauty of the area.
