Hiking Mount Moroto in Uganda's Northeastern Karamojaland
Mount Moroto is an ancient volcano raising out of the semi-arid planes of Karamoja forming the highest mountain in the region with numerous peaks offering days of adventure.
HIKING NORTHEASTERN UGANDA
The mountains of Karamoja are an exciting alternative to the more strenuous climbs in East Africa with many of the same attractions, a milder climate, lower elevation and requires no special equipment or technical experience.
EXPECTATIONS
Our expeditions are a mix of rich encounters with the Uganda’s highland people, breathtaking views and unique sights along the trails and unique campsites where you can enjoy the sunset, the stars and sunrise over the planes of Karamoja.
ACCOMMODATION
The night before the hike is spent in Moroto town and is guided by experienced local guides. Porters are available on request. Food, water, snacks and camping gear included:

Tour of Karamoja 2020, Stage 2: Pokot Land - Mount Moroto
Relive the 2nd stage of the epic 'Tour of Karamoja - Uganda's Warrior Nomad Trail Ride' organised by Kara-Tunga Tours. This stage starts in Amudat district and ends on the foothills of Mount Moroto. More info:
25 participants from 10 different countries of origin, cycled the entire length of Karamoja land: 430Km in only 5 days. They climbed a total of 4,500m over the foothills of various mountain ranges and the Eastern Rift bordering Kenya and South Sudan. To finally cycle into Africa's most scenic Kidepo Valley National Park.
The annual bike event is held to promote Karamoja land as a must-visit destination for authentic cultural experiences and untamed outdoor adventure. And thereby create opportunities for the local communities.

The mountains of Karamoja land (Northeastern Uganda) are an exciting alternative to the more strenuous climbs in East Africa with many of the same attractions, a milder climate, lower elevation and requires no special equipment or technical experience.
The so-called Karamoja plateau is defined by a string of seven mountain ranges wherefrom these are the the highlights: Mount Kadam (3,063m), Mount Napak (2,538m), Mount Moroto (3,083m) and Mount Morungole (2,749m).

The team of 10 regional experienced hiking guides have set-off for a 3-Days trekking adventure, traversing Karamoja’s highest mountain Moroto and passing by the 4 highest peaks.
This trek is part of the ongoing Karamoja Hiking Guides Assessment by Expedition Leader Jan Bakker and Bergwandelen.com in order to develop a made-to-measure training programme next year.

Karamoja Cultural Experience - Kara-Tunga Tours
A team of Ugandan content makers travelled to northeastern Uganda and asked Kara-Tunga to host them in Karamoja sub-region and give them an authentic taste of Karimojong culture.
Kara-Tunga is an indigenous owned and female led social enterprise embracing responsible tourism as a tool for creating social-economical opportunities for the community as well as enriching learning experiences for travelers.

Derrick is participating in the daily life of the shepherd cattle keepers as well as the elderly and women in the village. The tour is guided by experienced indigenous cultural guides who are trained by the Kara-Tunga Tourism Academy.
