Beautiful Morges Switzerland | The 'City of Flowers' on Lake Geneva
Join us for a walk through Morges Switzerland.
It's one of the prettiest lakeside cities on Lake Geneva. The 'City of Flowers' exudes an old world charm.
The long quay directly on the lake from the marina all the way to the Parc de Vertou at the east end of Morges is dedicated to the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky who lived here with his family between 1915 and 1917 in a stately villa close by the lake, now transformed into a beautiful high-end B&B, the Maison d'Igor.
We visited the museum where we had a guided tour and learned all about the Swiss army Mercenaries and their service in foreign countries. They literally helped to shape history.

About Morges
The town of Morges is situated on Lake Geneva, opposite the majestic Mont Blanc and not far from Lausanne. The pedestrianised Grand-Rue, in the heart of the old town and overlooked by the temple, plays host to a market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Morges is not only characterised by its impressive castle – which is home to multiple museums – but also by its pretty streets and alleyways as well as its flower displays, including the Tulip Festival in April and May.
But Morges is more than a magnificent town! Morges is an entire district, stretching past Bière and as far as La Sarraz. This vast region is packed full of multiple different activities, be they cultural, gastronomic, sporty, surrounded by nature or family-friendly. Numerous local producers emphasise the wealth of local delicacies, such as Fromagerie Gourmande, the Moulin de Sévery, numerous winegrowers, a few brewers, bakers and confectioners, chocolatiers, and many more besides.
There are cultural riches a-plenty here. The region is home to many museums, theatres and splendid places where heritage still takes centre stage. The district is also full of little gems of nature: panoramas that will take your breath away, and marked hiking routes to follow on foot, by bike or on snowshoes.
Travelling through the region also offers the opportunity to discover pretty little villages, together with their history, their old towns and their magnificent castles. The watchword here is “take your time”. Morges is actually the first destination in Switzerland to be listed as a slow destination, a new trend in response to the acceleration of modern life. This refers to a way of travelling peacefully, meeting local people while adopting eco-responsible behaviour. Morges allows you to adopt this peaceful approach, thanks to its landscapes, its activities, its artisans, its gastronomy and its public transport.

The Tulip Festival (Fête de la Tulipe) in Morges, Switzerland 2022
The Tulip Festival (Fête de la Tulipe) in Morges is held each year from early April to mid-May. Around 300 varieties of tulips are planted in the Independence Park behind Morges Castle – this allows the tulips to bloom at different times.
In 2022, the Tulip Festival took place from 18 March to 8 May. Along with narcissi, irises and daffodils, these are among the most beautiful flower gardens on Lake Geneva.Apart from the flowers and trees, visitors can enjoy the beautiful Lake Geneva views, which include lovely panoramic views of the Alps. Morges is famous for providing some of the best views of Mt Blanc from the shores of Lac Léman.

The 2021 edition will be a 50th bis since most of the events planned for 2020 will take place in 2021. There will be a walk in the tulips and of course the famous bulb sale.
The festival takes place from April to mid-May in the Parc de l'Indépendance, located on the shores of Lake Geneva, between the Château de Morges and the river La Morges. The Parc de l'Indépendance offers, in all seasons, a magnificent green setting and presents 50 varieties of trees such as impressive chestnut trees or giant sequoias. It is only a few metres from the historic city centre, the landing stage, restaurants and shops. Created to mark the 50th anniversary of the Vaud Horticultural Society in 1971, the Tulip Festival continues to delight the many annual visitors from Switzerland and abroad.
The park is accessible at all times and is completely free of charge. Wearing a mask is recommended during the week and compulsory at weekends and in case of strong influence. You can also take advantage of the night lighting of the park, created by Romande Energie, the main sponsor of the Festival.
We advise you to come by public transport. The Morges train station is only 10 minutes walk from the Parc de l'Indépendance.
