Northern France Road Trip (Le Touquet + Amiens + Montreuil-sur-mer) • Emma Rose Horsley
Last month we travelled to France on a road trip for a few days. We stayed in Le Touquet (my favourite place in Northern France) and visited Amiens, Abbeville and Montreuil-sur-mer. We didn't need to travel far from Calais for a quintessentially French holiday!
I feel quite lucky to live in the south east of England, which means travelling to France is quite easy and only an hour or so away! France is also a country I love to travel in, so I hope that comes through in my video.

Montreuil-sur-mer - Région Hauts-de-France - S.Bern - Le village préféré des Français 2016
Contrairement à ce que pourrait faire croire son nom, Montreuil-sur-Mer se situe à plus de 10 kms de la côte ! Ce village a pourtant été un important port jusqu’au début du Moyen Âge. Plus de port aujourd'hui, mais 3 kilomètres de remparts qui confèrent à l'endroit tout son charme. Installée sur un promontoire, surplombant la vallée de la Canche, cette cité authentique et de caractère renferme un château, une abbatiale, un hôtel-Dieu, ainsi que de charmantes ruelles et venelles parcourues de maisons à pans de bois. Cette cité de caractère a été surnommée « le petit faubourg Saint-Germain » par Victor Hugo, qui a fait de Montreuil-sur-mer le théâtre d'une partie de son célébrissime roman « Les Misérables ».

Montreuil is surrounded by notable brickwork ramparts, constructed after the destruction of the town by troops of Habsburg emperor Charles V in June 1537.[4] These fortifications pre-date the extensive fortification of towns in northern France by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban in the 17th century.
