Saint-Nazaire is a commune in the Loire-Atlantique department in western France, in traditional Brittany. The town has a major harbour, on the right bank of the Loire River estuary, near the Atlantic Ocean.

Given its location, Saint-Nazaire has a long tradition of fishing and shipbuilding. The Chantiers de l'Atlantique, one of the largest shipyards in the world, has constructed iconic superliners such as the SS Normandie, SS France, RMS Queen Mary 2 and MS Harmony of the Seas, the largest passenger ship in the world as of 2016.
What was a small village until the industrial area became a large town in the second half of the 19th century, thanks to the construction of railways and the growth of the seaport. Saint-Nazaire progressively replaced Nantes as the main haven on the Loire estuary. The town was one of the most damaged ones in France during World War Two. Being a major marine base for the Nazis, it was subject to a British raid in 1942 and it was heavily bombed by the Allies until 1945. Being part of one of the Atlantic pockets, Saint-Nazaire was one of the last territories in Europe to be liberated from the Nazis, on 11 May 1945.
The Route nationale N165/N161 (E60 route), gives motorway access to Nantes and Rennes via the Pont de Saint-Nazaire, which crosses the Loire. Paris is then accessed via the a10/A11 (in Nantes). Valves, Lorient, Quimper and Brest are accessed via the N165. Saint-Nazaire airport is located 5 km (3 mi) south-east of Saint-Nazaire, in the commune of Montoir-de-Bretagne. It has an annual capacity for approximately 150,000 passengers, and is the operational and maintenance base for Eagle Aviation France. Saint-Nazaire railway station is served by both the TGV and the regional trains and buses of the TER Pays de la Loire. TGV (high speed train) connection to Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Lille, and Strasbourg, with trains to Paris via the LGV Atlantique taking just over 2 hours. TER Pays de la Loire provides links to Nantes, Angers, Le Mans, La Roche sur Yon, and many other regional cities and towns.

Driving France: Riquewihr - Weil am Rhein - 4k scenic motorway drive Alsace
We continue our exploring of the beautiful french region of Alsace and drive on the main transportation artery, the A35 motorway, passing by famous cities like Colmar or Mulhouse. The motorway provides acces to many interesting tourist attractions. We start in the medieval village of Riquewihr, and drive through wineyards to the motorway. We leave the motorway shortly before it enters Switzerland, to drive to the german town of Weil am Rhein, crossing The Rhine river. A video clip from our walk through Riquewihr is also included in the video. Enjoy!

Carnac Stone Alignments, Bretagne, France
The alignments of Carnac were conceived and built on a much larger scale than any of the other megalithic alignments in the Armorican region. The surviving alignments fall into three main groups. Menec, Kermario and Kerlescan, which together extend to 3km, with over 3000 stones. The more extensively damaged alignments of Petit Menec, Ste-Barbe and Kerzerho suggest that the original complex was even larger, extending from the Crac'h Ria in the east to the sea near Plourharnel, all in all more than 8km. The stones of the Carnac alignments range from 50cm to 4m in height, and in each group of alignments the largest stones (weighing up to 50 tonnes) are located at the western end.
The Carnac alignments are associated with stone circles. The Menec alignments begins with a stone circle at its western end, and the remains of a second stone circle have been recorded at the eastern end.

Dopo aver passato la notte in riva al mare a dinard , guidiamo fino a Ploumanach, verso la famosissima ed incantevole costa di granito rosa, la Côte de granit rose. Qui solo i van sotto i due metri possono passare per parcheggiare, ma c'è una paseggiata costiera indimenticabile che vi consigliamo di fare al tramonto o all'alba. il Granito rosa delle rocce di questa costa fa un effetto che dalle foto non capisci. Poca gente ed una luce stupenda. Domani sarà un altro di quei risvegli che solo un van puo' regalarti.
