The main piazza in Arezzo is one of those great Tuscan spaces, with pedestrian lanes leading out from it in all directions. We'll take you on a walk along the main Corso Italia, with detours into various little side lanes, and show many of the old buildings dating back to the Middle Ages when Arezzo was a fortified town with a wall around it.
Among the many attractions here there is one particular focal point, which is a series of paintings by Piero della Francesca depicting scenes of the True Cross. The historic center between the train station and Piazza Grande is just about one square kilometer, so it's really easy to see it on foot walking around for a day. You'll really enjoy this main street, Corso Italia, lined with shops, and there's apartments above, there's a few little hotels here and there, in a quiet pedestrian zone with the few little service vehicles. You'll notice a slight incline in the angle of the street as you enter the town, but Arezzo is relatively flat, not one of those steep hill towns of Tuscany. Within 10 minutes walk from the train station, you can reach the Basilica of San Francesco, perhaps the major landmark of town, because inside is that series of fresco paintings by Piero della Francesca, depicting Legends of the True Cross, a world famous collection of art.
We'll take a closer look at these beautiful pieces at the end of the video. Like in many other Tuscan towns, this broad pedestrian route is the main pathway connecting the lower part of town to the historic one, more up towards the top of the hill. It's a slight uphill walk, but very nice stroll with many kinds of shops, there's restaurants, antiques and more.

A visit to Rome in winter means many things for travelers, but most importantly: better deals on flights from the US, and much smaller crowds in Italy!

I'm a big proponent of off-season travel, though I understand it's not possible for parents to just yank their kids out of school to spend a week abroad. With that said, a trip to Italy in the winter is a great idea to plan for in the future!
You'll find mild weather through the winter in Rome, with highs still reaching the 50s or 60s (Fahrenheit) in December, January, and February. Overnight lows barely dip below 40.
That means: outdoor dining is still a thing during the winter in Rome! You might need a jacket, and a heater after dark, but a lot of restaurants and cafes still put tables outside through the winter months.
Traveling to Rome in winter will allow you to visit sites like the Roman Ruins, the Coliseum, and the Trevi Fountain... without having to fight much larger summertime crowds. As for the Vatican in the winter months, you'll always find a crowd! Still, the hallways running through the museum and art collection will be a bit less crowded.
Does it snow in Rome?
It's one of the most-searched questions about Italy in the winter, and the answer is: sometimes. It snowed a couple inches in 2012, and again in 2018. It's so rare that snowfall basically paralyzes the city of Rome, from its stores to its streets. Bottom line: Don't worry about it if you're making plans to visit Rome in the winter. If it *does* snow, it'll just create another lasting memory!

City in Italy
Grosseto is a city and comune in the central Italian region of Tuscany, the capital of the Province of Grosseto. The city lies 14 kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the Maremma, at the center of an alluvial plain on the Ombrone river. It is the most populous city in Maremma, with 82,284 inhabitants.
The walls were begun by Francesco I de Medici in 1574, replacing those from the 12th-14th centuries, as part of his policy of making Grosseto a stronghold to protect his southern border. The design was by Baldassarre Lanci, and the construction took 19 years, being completed under Grand Duke Ferdinando I. Until 1757 the exterior was surrounded by a ditch with an earthen moat.

In this video, we are starting our Italy Road trip. We start our 3 weeks road trip in Italy in the city of Bari, in the Puglia region of Italy. For the next 3 weeks, we wanted to show you the best places to visit in Italy in winter. So if you are wondering where to travel in Italy during the cold months, the answer is Southern Italy. Weather in Italy in winter is pretty warm in the southern part, so November or December is the perfect time to visit. As we start our road trip through Italy, we take you to Bari Italy 2021.
If you are looking for things to do in Bari Italy, you can start with the Bari Lungomare which is a beautiful seaside promenade. One of the best things to do in Bari is visit the seafood market next to the Bari Lungomare, buy some freshly caught fish and have the locals cook it for you. Another cool thing to do is to visit the Teatro Margherita Bari, also located right next to the Bari seaside promenade. Another place on your list of must do things in Bari should be Barivecchia - the Bari old town. Bari Vecchia is a beautiful pedestrian area, therefore is perfect for a Bari Italy walking tour. You can start at the Basilica of Saint Nicolas, which is the saint that inspired Santa Claus. Next, you can visit the Cathedral of San Sabino, which is the main Cathedral in Bari, Italy. If you are looking for unique things to do in Bari, you must visit the Alto Baso Street, also called Strada Delle Orecchiette. On the streets of Alto Baso, you will find grandmas making homemade orecchiette which is one of the best food to try in Bari. Last but not least, you should visit the Svevo Castle, also located in Beri Vecchia. If you have a day in Bari Italy, these are the main places you should visit.
Since we had almost a week to explore Puglia Italy, we looked what day trips from Bari Italy are available and decided to visit Matera, which is a city about 1 hour away from Bari.
Matera Italy is one of the most unique places we have ever visited in Italy. It is also one of the most ancient cities in the World. The city is located in the southern Italy, in the Basilicata province. Matera Italy is built on a steep mountain site and its the city of caves. The houses here called Sassi are carved in stone. The Matera sassi are so unique that they were included in the Unesco World Heritage Sites. Also, Matera Italy became the European Capital of Culture in 2019 and was the filming site for the new 2021 James Bond movie - No Time To Die. One of the things to do in Matera Italy is to visit the rupestrian churches throughout the city. The city of caves, how it's usually called, Matera is a very walkable city so get lost in the tiny streets where you can find beautiful boutique hotels, restaurants and shops. One of the best things for us when visiting Matera Italy was coming in the winter months. There are many steps to climb while walking thought the city so the cooler weather was perfect for us.
As we finished our day in Matera, on our way back to Bari, we decided to visit a small town known for the beautiful Christmas decorations - Locorotondo. Locorotondo Italy is a short drive from Matera, so we had to check it out and see all the beautiful holiday decorations. Every year, all the businesses and families in the Old Town of Locorotondo decorate their houses, transforming Locorotondo Italy into a winter wonderland.
Next Day, we take another day trip from Bari, and this time we head over to Alberobello. Alberobello Italy is a small town outside Bari, which is famous for the style of houses you find here - called trulli. The trulli houses Italy are cone shaped made of limestone. There are many trulli houses all over the Puglia region, however the biggest concentration of them are in Alberobello Italy. As one of the best places to visit in southern Italy, Alberobello is a beautiful town with a rich history and lots of tiny houses.
To finish our Puglia Italy travel guide, we head back to Bari for a delicious dinner.
