Montemor o Novo Alentejo Portugal HD
Montemor-o-Novo is a Portuguese city, in the District of Évora, in the middle of Alentejo.
Calm and quiet region but with an important place in national history. Here D. Manuel I decided to have the sea route discovered for India. It was also an important stage of battles with a great capacity of resistance.
The whole surrounding region owns great natural beauties, a zone of water and electric use, possessing several dams, land where simplicity reigns.
Among the points of interest, be sure to visit what remains of the Castle, the former Convent of St. Domingos (today the Archaeological Museum), the picturesque Fountain of the village, the Church and crypt of St. John of God or the beautiful Convent of Our Lady of the Greeting.
The region also has a rich archaeological heritage, including megalithic monuments such as Menires da Pedra Longa, Anta da Comenda da Igreja, Anta dos Tourais, Anta da Velada, Anta de São Brissose and the fantastic Cave of Escoural.
The region's handicrafts highlight works of basketry, leather and skin and the famous liquor of poejo.

PT// Durante a nossa viagem ao longo da Estrada Nacional 2, em Montemor-o-Novo, tivemos a oportunidade de visitar alguns locais de interesse. Começámos por explorar a Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Visitação, um local de grande significado histórico e religioso. A ermida é conhecida pela sua arquitetura única e pelos seus detalhes artísticos.
Após a visita à Ermida, decidimos prosseguir a nossa jornada em direção ao impressionante Castelo de Montemor-o-Novo. Este castelo histórico, com origens que remontam ao século XIII, ergue-se majestosamente no topo de uma colina com muralhas bem preservadas, torres imponentes e detalhes arquitetónicos que testemunham o passado glorioso deste monumento histórico.
EN// During our journey along the National Road 2, in Montemor-o-Novo, we had the opportunity to visit some interesting sites. We started by exploring the Chapel of Our Lady of Visitation, a place of great historical and religious significance. The chapel is known for its unique architecture and artistic details.
After the visit to the chapel, we decided to continue our journey towards the impressive Castle of Montemor-o-Novo. This historical castle, with origins dating back to the 13th century, stands majestically atop a hill with well-preserved walls, imposing towers, and architectural details that bear witness to the glorious past of this historic monument.

Montemor-o-Novo Castle - English Version - 4K Ultra-HD
Video about the Montemor-o-Novo Castle, originally built in the beginning of the 13th century and expanded throughout the following centuries. Within its walled area there are three churches, including one dedicated to St. James (which has a remarkable set of mural paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries), a convent and the former Mayors' Palace, today profoundly ruined.
This castle was the scene of important moments in Portuguese history, such as the Courts of Montemor-o-Novo, where king Manuel I was sworn as a king, or the decision to explore a sea route to India, a journey that would be led by Vasco da Gama.
It has been classified as a National Monument since 1951.

The 22 state-of-the-art suites at L'AND Vineyards are built in natural stone and local wood. They are all fitted with the help of interior designers and open out onto panoramic patios with outdoor fireplaces. Some have a plunge pool.
A culinary journey is possible at the on-site restaurant serving dishes prepared with locally-sourced ingredients. Food is matched by fully flavored wines, produced at the renowned in-house vinery.

Portugal Bike Tour (Faro - Tavira - Alcoutim - Beja - Evora - Montemor-o-Novo - Setubal - Lisbon)
Three of us toured Portugal by bike in September of 2022. We started in Faro, spent a day along the coast riding to Tavira then rode north through Algarve towards Alcoutim and the Spanish border. From there we rode northwest through Alentejo back to Lisbon. We stayed in hotels along the way.
