10 Greenest Boroughs in London

What are the greenest areas in London? We live in an increasingly urbanized world which, if left with the pace of industrialization and growth, may soon become uninhabitable. Making our cities more environmentally friendly requires that all hands be on deck. Cities in the UK are sparing no effort when it comes to making more green space available for residents. Let’s now illustrate this by considering the 10 greenest boroughs in London.
Which ones of the 32 boroughs in London Boroughs are leading the way in this regard? You will find an interesting discussion in the ranking in this video based on what regional data elements such as pollution, quality of life, life expectancy, and available green spaces reveal about these 10 greenest boroughs in London.

10. Westminster
Let’s start with Westminster. This borough in Inner London forms a core part of Central London. This borough occupies a vast area of central Greater London and this includes most of the West End. Westminster is one of the greenest boroughs in London.
The borough has a population of 261,317, according to the 2019 estimate. The city's size is about 21.5 square kilometers. In the Green City Index which assigns scores to calculate how much green space is there in an area, Westminster scores 40.76 out of a possible score of 60. Westminster Borough is largely residential. It has many large parks and numerous open spaces, including Hyde Park and Regents Park. It’s a green borough despite its high population density.
9. Hammersmith & Fulham
This is a borough in West London that also forms part of Inner London. It was formed in 1965 by merging the former Metropolitan Boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham. It is one of the 10 greenest boroughs in London. It’s home to three professional soccer clubs, namely Chelsea, Fulham, and Queens Park Rangers.
Based on its total area of 16.40 square kilometers and its population of 186,143, it may have some challenges with its population density of 11,000 residents per kilometer square. Hammersmith & Fulham have a green space score of 41.05, doing well in all six criteria. It devotes 231 hectares of land to parks and open spaces accessible to the general public. Of these 159 hectares are within parks and 52.5 hectares are cemeteries and churchyards.
8. Croydon
Croydon, the southernmost borough of London, has transformed from a small market town into one of the most populous areas on the city’s fringe. It’s the eighth-greenest borough in London. With a total area of 86.5 square kilometers, Croydon is the second-largest borough in London and the fifteenth in England. It has a population of 386,710, according to the 2019 estimate.
Gone are the days when it was being criticized for not having enough leisure facilities and being ranked as a three-star borough. Its current green space score is 41.73 out of 60. This is not bad, you would agree. It has over 120 parks and open spaces, ranging from the 0.81 square kilometer Selsdon Wood Nature Reserve to so many recreation grounds and sports fields dotting the borough.
7. Merton
Merton borough was a product of the Municipal Borough of Mitcham, the Municipal Borough of Wimbledon, and the Merton and Morden Urban District. Occupying a total area of 37.6 square kilometers, its 2019 estimated population was 206,548.
Based on the criteria such as green outdoor space, green space percentage, air quality, number of parks, number of gardens, number of nature and wildlife areas, number of playgrounds, bodies of water, and number of forests, Merton gathers a total score of 42.73 in green space score.

Places to see in ( Morden - UK )

Places to see in ( Morden - UK )

Morden is a district in the London Borough of Merton, England, 8 miles South-southwest of central London between Merton Park and Wimbledon to the north, Mitcham to the east, Sutton to the south and Worcester Park to the west. Morden had a population of 48,233 in 2011, including the wards of Cannon Hill, Lower Morden, Merton Park, Ravensbury and St Helier.

Morden might get its name either from the British language words Mawr (great or large) and Dun (a fort), or possibly The Town on the Moor. Human activity in Morden dates back to the Iron age period when Celtic tribes are known to have occupied areas around Wimbledon, but the first significant development in Morden was the construction of the Roman road called Stane Street from Chichester to London.

The route of Stane Street through Morden followed the current A24, London Road up Stonecot Hill from the south west crossing Morden Park to the west of the current dual carriageway road and passing through the pitch and putt golf course and the grounds of St Lawrence's Church. The road then descended the other side of the hill towards the town centre passing west of the Underground station and crossing the north corner of Morden Hall Park heading in the direction of Colliers Wood and Tooting. Small Roman artifacts, mainly coins and pottery, have been found at various locations within the area although there is no evidence of any settlement.

Ethelstan the Etheling, son of Ethelred the Unready, left land at Mordune to the abbey of Christ and St. Peter in his will of 1015, which became the site of the first Saxon parish church of St Lawrence. In 1086, the Domesday Book recorded the manor as Mordone, part of Wallington Hundred. It was held by Westminster Abbey and its assets were: 3 hides; 1 mill worth £2 and 7 ploughs. It rendered £15. in total. Fourteen people were recorded as living in the area.

Despite London's suburban expansion, a little of the earlier rural nature of Morden has survived; for instance several grand period buildings remain, especially within Morden's parks. The area retains a good provision of parks and green spaces, many of them created from former country estates. The 125 acre Morden Hall Park is of particular note and is run by the National Trust (see below). Its main entrance is only a quarter-of-a-mile from Morden Underground Station.

The largest building in the town centre is Crown House, sixties-built and 14 storeys tall; designed in 1959 by A. Green ARIBA and built between 1960 and 1962. The concave frontage of the building lends it some distinction, as does the chessboard style juxtaposition of its light and dark facade features. It incorporated the Crown public house, on which site part of the building covered. The building is home to Merton Council's Civic Centre and a large adjoining library.

The Bait'ul Futuh Mosque, the largest mosque in Western Europe, built by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. Morden Hall Park is a key feature of the Morden area with large, period buildings located within its boundaries. Morden Park, another park containing a period building of note. St Lawrence Church, Morden. St Lawrence Church is the Church of England parish church for Morden.

( Morden - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Morden . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Morden - UK

Richmond Park, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, was created by Charles I in the 17th century as a deer park. The largest of London's Royal Parks, it is of national and international importance for wildlife conservation. The park is a national nature reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation and is included, at Grade I, on Historic England's Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England. Its landscapes have inspired many famous artists and it has been a location for several films and TV series.

Richmond Park includes many buildings of architectural or historic interest. The Grade I-listed White Lodge was formerly a royal residence and is now home to the Royal Ballet School. The park's boundary walls and ten other buildings are listed at Grade II, including Pembroke Lodge, the home of 19th-century British Prime Minister Lord John Russell and his grandson, the philosopher Bertrand Russell. In 2020, Historic England also listed two other features in the park – King Henry's Mound which is possibly a round barrow and another (unnamed) mound which could be a long barrow.

Brighton to Cambridge via Gatwick airport, London Bridge & London St. Pancras on board of Thameslink

On board of a Thameslink service from Brighton with final destination Cambridge, in the video I'll show the railway station of Brighton, the Thameslink trains (British railway class 700 / Siemens Desiro City) and views from the train between Brighton via Gatwick airport to London Bridge & London St. Pancras international.

Thameslink is having several services, crossing London between Brighton, Littlehampton & Horsham in the south to Bedford, Petersbrough & Cambridge in the north. Thameslink is even serving 2 London airports, Gatwick & Luton and within the greater London area it's possible to travel with an Oyster card as well.
