Meybod (Persian: میبد) is a major desert city in Yazd Province, Iran with a population of about 75,000 making it the second major city in Yazd. It is located at 32 13 N 54 1 E. It is an ancient city that goes back to pre-Islamic arena and, hence, is the home to many ancient points of interests. The Historical City of Maybod is part of the Tentative List in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
It was the capital of Iran during the Mozaffarid period. Mozaffari kingdom originated from Meybod where the first king was born. One of the oldest castles in Iran is Narin ghaleh in Meybod, which dates back from the Sasanid. Chaparkhaneh and Karvansaraye Abbasi are some other examples of the historical buildings from Safavid era.
Many important major poets, sufis, clergymen and politicians came from Meybod. Meybodi, the author of Kashf-ol-Asrar, Grand Ayatollah Haeri, Hossein Makki and many others lived in Maybod, to name a few.
Unfortunately some of its historical points were demolished by local authorities who did not understand the archeological values. Yet, it hosts many tourists from every corner of the world everyday.[1]

Yazd is a stunning ancient desert city in Iran, with unique Persian architecture and unique skyline, dotted by windcatchers (windtowers, used for passive cooling in the buildings). The old town of Yazd is famous for its winding lanes and mud-brick houses. Yazd is also known as the center of the Zoroastrianism, arguably the world's first monotheistic religion.
The Historical City of Yazd is on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Historical City of Meybod is on the UNESCO Tentative List.

The Kabutar Khana was used as a place to protect the birds and bird manure in this place was used for agricultural purposes. It dates back to the Qajar era. The building of the kabutar khaneh (translating to ‘pigeon house’) has a very organized design. This building with a height of about eight meters and original architecture of Yazd has four thousand pigeon nests and is made with a cylindrical style.
Yakhchal ( ice house ) were used on two occasions. One occasion was in winter for storing ice in the reservoir and covering it with chaff and straw and another was in summer for taking ice for consumption. In icy winter nights, water from qanats were lead to mud pools located behind the shadowing wall to be frozen and form thick and firm pieces of ice. Then these thick compact pieces of ice were broken down and stored in the reservoir under the dome.

Get Ready to Be Surprised! (5000 year old Narin castle) Meybod, Yazd ep 3
Narin Castle or Narin Qaleh was built in seven floors (or five floors) at the top of the highest hill in Meybod to overlook the whole town.
Narin Castle was built on an oval plan. First, a trench was dug up around the castle , then the castle was built from up to down. Narin castle was built spirally labyrinth to down. The building was built in three floors and called Hakemneshin which means a safe place for the ruler. The oldest parts of the building belong to these floors. Construction continued downward. The rooms were built nested and narrow. Some holes were created in the walls and ceilings to light the building. Underground secret passage ways, bathrooms, bazaars, and mosques were built and this part was called Sharestan which means where housed ordinary people. We can see nothing of this part; however, archaeologists believe that there is a lot to be discovered about Narin Castle .

The AMAZING JOURNEY To Yazd
In this third episode, I leave Kashan heading to Yazd. This video is all about the road trip, but there's some great stop offs on the way!
I’ll visit Abyaneh (ابیانه), the beautiful Red Village, head off for lunch in Naein (نائین) (Soup Jo and Koobideh) and visit the Jameh Mosque of Naein. Finally I'll head to Meybod (میبد) to see the Shah Abbasi Caravanserai and the beautiful Narin Castle with it's stunning views over the old city.

In the late summer of 2022 I embarked on an epic road trip around Iran, during a time of unrest as protests escalated across the country.
Covering around 6200km over 24 days, I was able to see this incredible country in a way that many are not fortunate enough to see, and to record my experiences in a way that has not been done before.
Safety concerns meant that I had to limit my filming on occasion, and stay well away from any signs of the troubles going on.
However, what I did see was an incredible insight. Some of the most wonderful and welcoming people, incredible history and culture, and mind blowing food.
