De paddenstoelen en zwammen van het Liedermeerspark in Merelbeke
De paddenstoelen en zwammen vormen in de plantenwereld een heel bijzondere familie. Ze vieren hoogtij in het seizoen van de vroege zomer tot de late herfst. Paddenstoelen en zwammen groeien overal: een akker, bos, duin, gevallen bladeren, graszone, park, straatsteen, tuin, of zelfs in een weiland. Het is telkens weer een leuke uitdaging om ze te mogen ontmoeten. Ter vergelijking met de groene planten bezitten paddenstoelen en zwammen geen bladgroen of chlorofyl. Om die reden zijn ze ook niet in staat hun eigen voedsel te produceren. Ondanks dit feit zijn ze heel nuttig in de natuur en leveren ook een zinvolle bijdrage aan het natuurlijk evenwicht.
In deze film maak jij kennis met enkele paddenstoelen en zwammen die ik in het Liedermeerspark te Merelbeke heb ontmoet. Gewone glimmerinktzwam, geschubde inktzwam, geweizwam, honingzwam en ridderzwam zijn slechts enkele voorbeelden. Herken jij nog enkele soorten?

Merelbeke : Lentegeluiden langs de Trekweg door Catherine Boone
Lentegeluiden : foto's en film gemaakt door Catherine Boone. Locatie : Trekweg in Merelbeke bij Gent, België. Deze weg maakt deel uit van de Merelbeekse Scheldemeersen. Dit is de overkant van de Zonneputtragel in Gent van waar je tevens een YouTube film van mijn hand kan bekijken. Dit is de link naar deze film :
Een trekweg is een jaagpad langs een kanaal of rivier dat vroeger werd gebruikt om schepen, gewoonlijk vrachtschepen, als de wind niet gunstig was, vooruit te trekken. Dit voorttrekken werd jagen genoemd, vandaar de naam.
Naast de Trekweg loopt de Schelde en de Schelde Tijarm. Buiten flora en fauna ontmoet je ook een stuw, de watertoren van Merelbeke en twee waardevolle natuurgebieden : de Sint Elooisput en de Schelderodeput. Aan de overkant van de al genoemde trekweg bevinden zich het Klein Zonneputje, de Karpelput, de Spanjaard en de Blijpoel, die al in de gemeente De Pinte ligt.
Schelderodepunt. In de 18de eeuw al werd hier een deel van de Schelde rechtgetrokken. Andere rechttrekkingen gebeurden in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw. Zo ontstond een meander die nu bekend is als Schelderodeput, tegenwoordig een visvijver. De put heeft zelfs zijn eigen Monster van Loch Ness. In 1936 zou hier uit het niets een vis opgedoken zijn ter grootte van een varken. Even verderop had ene Edmond Van de Steen een eigen veerdienst die de steenbakkers van Schelderode van en naar Zevergem bracht. Velen oefenden hier ook het beroep van boottrekker uit.
Deze stuw wordt vooral gebruikt om overtollig water van de Boven-Schelde af te voeren naar de Boven-Zeeschelde (ook wel getijgebonden Schelde genoemd). Deze stuw wordt relatief weinig opengezet omdat er in Merelbeke (naast het sluizencomplex) ook een identieke stuw aanwezig is. Enkel bij heel hoge afvoerdebieten (vooral in de winter) wordt de stuw op de tijarm geopend om wateroverlast in Gent en omstreken te voorkomen. De onbevaarbare tijarm heeft aldus enkel een functie voor de waterafvoer. Scheepvaart is er niet toegestaan.

Watch highlights of the agricultural and cultural experiences had by the 23 Michigan and Indiana Farm Bureau members who traveled to Germany and Belgium, Sept. 1-11, as part of the Agricultural Leadership Exchange.
The group saw and heard first-hand how the region's agricultural makeup is heavily influenced by Europe's rich history. They also learned about Germany's large-scale efforts to increase renewable energy production and about consumer demand for affordable, non-GMO food products.
In addition, the group visited several historical and cultural sites including the Brandenburg Gate, Sanssouci Palace and Park, Muhlenhof Open-Air Museum, and the Belgian cities of Ghent and Brugge.

Heerlijk relaxen aan het water
Locatie: Liedermeerspark te Merelbeke
Archiefdocumenten vermelden de naam 'Leermeersen' of 'Ledermeersen'. Volgens prof. dr. K.G. Van Acker vallen de namen mogelijk te interpreteren als 'meersen van de vrije lieden', naar de Salische begrippen 'leod' of 'liud'; met andere woorden grond die ooit werd geschonken aan Karolingische strijders, horend bij een hof ( ontstaan in de 9de eeuw ).
Het is onduidelijk of het hof naar waar wordt verwezen, verband houdt het latere 'tgoet te Peinperdue' of het Verloren Broodhof in 1268 door de Gentse adellijke vrouw Juetta van Brienne aan de Cisterciênzerabdij Ter Hagen in Zuiddorpe ( bij Axel, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen ) werd geschonken. In de 17de en 18de eeuw werd het nog steeds als rust- en buitenplaats voor de monialen gebruikt. De abdis had er een eigen kamer een een deel van de kelder. Vanaf 1626 was er ook een kapel waar kerkdiensten konden plaatsvinden. Volgens gegevens uit het archief van de Sint-Pietersabdij zou het goed bij een beleg door Fransen verwoest zijn. De site van dit maison de plaisance bleef bewaard maar toont vooral een jongere bebouwing.
Het Liedermeerspark, dat in het jaar 1982 officieel als park werd herkend, is 25 hectare groot en omvat onder meer een visvijver; oorspronkelijk een oude Scheldearm. In de gemeenteraad van 22 september 1983 werd beslist dat de groene zone in het BPA nummer 12 voortaan officieel 'het Liedermeerspark' zou heten en het water 'de Verlorenbroodvijver'. In deze recreatiezone werd in het jaar 1988 liefst 3000 inlandse bomen aangeplant aangevuld met een 1000-tal eiken door de Merelbeekse schooljeugd. Hiervoor danken wij de voormalige wethouder Paul Martens voor zijn essentiële bijdrage tot de totstandkoming en ontwikkeling van dit natuurrijk gebied.
Liedermeerspark is located along the right bank of the Scheldt river in the north part of Merelbeke, a municipality located in the Flemish province of East Flanders, in Belgium. It has a surface area of 25 hectares. You can see an animal diversity and lots of plants. The coots, ducks, Eurasian nuthatchs, European bitterlings, frogs, geese, great spotted woodpeckers, herons, salamanders and the short-toed treecreepers are living here. You will also recognise different types of west European trees ( e.g beeches, oaks and populus ), bushes, fungi and mushrooms. The Liedermeerspark offers you the opportunity to relax and escape from the stress in your life.
