Due to French colonialism, the children of Dakar have a unique school system. The school stops at noon and the children go home to rest, since most of the daily activities of the population are going to the mosque at noon and attending the mosque on Fridays. Music has a great influence on young people with famous artists like the Daara J Family using their voices to represent the problems in their communities.

Turning Dakar into a Park
Today we are taking a stroll in Dakar and noticing some people creating a park. Turning another dumping ground and parking lot into a place for children, for learning, for praying and for reading.
Step by step the people of Senegal are turning the city into a green place - full of life, and hope. It is a good practice, especially if we all do our best to make this kind of work a cool thing to do - and the young people will be attracted to building the Dakar they want to live in themselves.
This park here is being constructed by FabriMetal and the Oceanium Association.

Senegal's Infamous but Beautiful Ile de Goree - Last Stop Africa | Walking Tour
G'day all. Today's video is a sobering tour of Senegal's Ile de Goree, an island not far away from the Senegalese capital of Dakar. From here millions of people were sent to the New World as slaves, and sadly millions died before even making the trip thanks to the hideous conditions they were forced to endure imprisoned before being sent.
I take a ferry from Dakar to get to the island, as does everyone who visits, and find my guide Mohammed who shows me around the island. We visit the House of Slaves and learn about the island's history. But also we learn about how the island now is home to many including artists and more, and in 2023 there is a real positive sense of community which has shown how the locals have turned a sad past into a positive future.

J'ai la chance inouïe qu'Abibou ait accepté de se prêter au jeu de l'interview pour nous faire partager son expérience du retour au Pays, au Sénégal, après avoir fait une partie de sa vie en France.
