Minasangay Island // The Pride of Balangkayan
Minasangay is an ecological park and resort that’s found outside the town proper of Balangkayan. It’s a 25-kilometer drive from Borongan, and you’ll have to be very careful when going there lest you miss it. There are no signs pointing to the place, so you better have somebody with you who knows the place really well.
From the highway, you’ll have to drive through a rough narrow road that’s lined with mangroves on the side. At the end of the road is the entrance to the park, where you’ll have to pay a really small fee to enter the place. And then a hanging bridge takes you across the river and then into the Minasangay Island itself.

Eastern Samar is famous in Philippine history is Homonhon Island off the coast of Guiuan, the province’s southern-most town, facing both the Pacific Ocean and the Leyte Gulf where Magellan first landed. Guiuan by itself is a quaint town composed of several Island-Barangays, each with its own story to tell. Sulangan is a Pilgrim center of St. Anthony of Padua; Tubabao Island played host to the Russian Refugees in the 1930’s; and Calico-an Island is the surfing capital of Eastern Visayas.Going up north brings you to Borongan City, the capital of the province with its rich tradition in culinaria and literature. A hike through the Borongan-Llorente Closed-canopy Forest, the largest rainforest left intact in the whole country is a challenge to surmount.Taft is the home of the Philippine Eagle with a sanctuary serving as its natural habitat – a wildlife facility where one can study birds. In the towns facing Leyte Gulf, one can visit Balangiga, the place of the one of the bloodiest encounters in the Filipino-American War. Nearby is the town of Lawaan where the majestic Amandaraga Falls, the tallest waterfalls in the country, and its 4 sister falls reside.

SAMAR PHILIPPINES VISIT 2019 - BORONGAN, MAYDOLONG & BALANGKAYAN EASTERN SAMAR
One of my favourite towns to visit every time I'm back in Philippines, takes me back to my childhood when visiting my gran and aunt on school holidays. The place is still untouched and it's nice to see the locals still sell the same fruits and crops from 20 years ago.
If you want to see something new there's loads of places to explore around Eastern Samar and they have the most scenic route. Samar is perfect for a great adventure and definitely loads of nice places to stay on a budget.

BEAUTIFUL BASEY, SAMAR | PHILIPPINES Southeast Asia Travel Vlog
Basey is a 1st class municipality in the province of Samar, Philippines. Its area is approximately 53,300 hectares, comprised of coastal and inland plains, hills, mountains and rivers.
The people of Basey are primarily engaged in farming and agriculture, fishing, local commerce, education and cottage industries (notably, mat-weaving more locally known as banig). Tourism is also a viable source of revenue for the town. Among its remarkable places of interest are the Sohoton Natural Bridge National Park, century-old St. Michael the Archangel Church, and the Golden River.

Sohoton Cave and Natural Bridge Park | Basey, Samar | Samar Tourist Spot
The Sohoton Caves and Natural Bridge Park is a protected natural area about 841 hectares and a tourist attraction within the Samar Island Natural Park. The natural park features caves, subterranean rivers, waterfalls, limestone formations, thick forest and a natural stone bridge. It is just a small portion of the Samar Island National Park covering the 3 provinces namely Northern Samar, Eastern Samar and Samar (formerly Western Samar). The entire area is 455,700 hectares, home of the various wildlife, rivers and cave connections. It is located at Brgy. Guirang, Basey and has an area of approximately 840-hectares.

The Balangiga Bells of Eastern Samar // FINALLY HOME after 117 years
The Balangiga bells are three church bells that were taken by the United States Army from the Church of San Lorenzo de Martir in Balangiga, Eastern Samar, Philippines, as war trophies after reprisals following the Balangiga massacre in 1901 during the Philippine–American War. One church bell was in the possession of the 9th Infantry Regiment at Camp Red Cloud, their base in South Korea, while two others were on a former base of the 11th Infantry Regiment at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
People representing the Catholic Church in the Philippines, the Philippine government, and the residents of Balangiga had sought to recover the bells since the late 1950s, but their efforts were met with frustration for decades. Progress in negotiations was made in 2018, and the bells finally returned to the Philippines on 11 December 2018, after 117 years.

It is also nicknamed as the City of the Golden Sunrise/Sunshine and aspiring to be the King City of the East. Its cityhood was settled by the Supreme Court of the Philippines when it decided with finality on April 12, 2007, the constitutionality of its city charter, Republic Act 9394, which conferred upon and elevated the status of the municipality of Borongan into a component city of the province of Eastern Samar.
