Maubanog is from the town’s name and the word “bangog,” meaning “high
spirit.”
The town also boasts a number of heritage structures: the 1725 public bath, a declared Important Cultural Property (ICP); Spanish-era seawall, which is a declared cultural property Level II (a notch lower than the ICP); the modern San Buenaventura Church; and the Spanish colonial cemetery, with its intact arched main portal, chapel façade and a number of old niches.

Walking Around MAUBAN Town Proper | Quezon, Province Philippines | 4k

Getting to Mauban, you will have to ride a bus from Manila bound to Lucena City, the capital of Quezon Province. The last bus stop would be Lucena's Grand Terminal, and from there you will have to ride another bus bound to the town of Mauban. The scenery along the way would be typical of any rural towns in the country. Since Quezon Province is composed of valleys and mountains, it common to see terrace fields, but not too steep as compared to the ones in Benguet. The main crop planted in these fields is rice, but it is also common to see vegetable farms.

Sandbar in Cagbalete Island in Mauban Quezon | Aquazul Resort and Hotel

#cagbaleteisland #aquazulresort #maubanquezon

Also called Little Boracay in Quezon Province, this is Cagbalete island which is very much accessible via Mauban Port. Book your stay in any resort. They can help you look for a private boat or if you choose to get on a regular boat ride, you may coordinate with the Tourism Office.

We stayed in Aquazul Resort and Hotel. The front beach is not as good as you may expect but to go to the best tourist sites, you can hire a boat for island hopping or get a habal habal ride.

Mauban walking tour in Quezon Province on a rainy weather

Mauban is a coastal municipality in the Quezon province. It is famous for its nipa lambanog, also known as lambanog sasa or nipanog. When I arrived, it was drizzling, and it became heavier in the middle of my walk. No worries, I have an umbrella. So join me virtually in Mauban, put on your earphones and headphones for the rainy atmosphere, and let's explore Mauban in Quezon Province.

Buy me a cup of coffee?
I now have more stuff to create and a valid excuse to travel while still being healthy, thanks to walking. It also allowed me to see many of the Philippines' beautiful locations, cafes, restaurants, and tourist attractions. To support this channel, it would be good if you could buy me a cup of coffee after each walk or trip I do. I love to have coffee after a long walk.

+++++++++++

Note that there are few resorts in Cagbalete in Mauban, Quezon. If you are looking for a beach resort in Cagbalete Island, I would highly recommend Doña Choleng Beach Resort.

Note though that Cagbalete Island does not have luxurious resorts. If you are looking for a beach resort in Cagbalete Island with good rooms, Aquazul is the perfect resort for you. However, its downside is its beachfront. I'm recommending Doña Choleng Beach Resort as it situated where Cagbalete's fine white sands and crystal clear waters.

Mauban Quezon Philippines: People and Industry

Mauban Quezon Philippines its People and Industry. This video is a showcase of tourism as the town's top industry, which includes buri weaving, marine and fishery, farming, copra, coconut or nipa wine also known as lambanog, dishes and delicacies (pinangat, pinais, espasol, suman, tamalis, binalawan, laing, ginatang ubod, ginataang langka, and more), Maubanog Festival, Dances, Pista ng Kalinangan, Bailehan, Awitan, Variety Show, Gabi ng Kultura, Gawad Dangal, Breathtaking Falls, Hotels and Accomodations and more. It also helps us remember famous Maubanins like Jose Ingles, Pastor Endencia, Dr. Maria del Banco Pastrana-Castrence and Father Horacia de la Costa -- a well known Filipino historian. Take a peek into Mauban's well preserved heritage houses , local museum and Rizal Hill Park.

Chasing Dreams in Our Hometown of Mauban, Quezon!

This is our own little Vigan, Sagada & Boracay rolled into one & that’s greatly appreciating our beloved hometown. We even picked up a safe hobby during 2-year home quarantine due to COVID-19 pandemic – writing poems about this beautiful place long been forgotten. Mauban is a 1s-class municipality in Quezon Province with rich cultural heritage what with dozens of ancestral houses most prominent is that of Fr. Horacio de la Costa, the 1st Filipino Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in the Philippines. Other must-see tourist attractions include the Seawall built in 1935 & a Spanish-era public bath built in 1725 both declared as Significant Cultural Properties by the National Museum of the Philippines. A Rizal Monument called Calvario built in 1925 on the town’s promontory was also declared a historic site by the National Historical Commission in 2011. This Spanish-era guard post nestled on a hill later became the HQ of the American forces & the Philippine Constabulary until 1945.

Wondering why we hear a lot of extraordinary war stories from our grandparents who survived World War II to share their harrowing experience? At the outset of the 2nd World War, Japanese forces invaded Lamon Bay to secure the coast southeast of Manila in preparation for the full invasion of the capital. The 1st Japanese detachment landed in Mauban, part of a three-prong blitzkrieg of the towns of Atimonan & Plaridel, all in Quezon, coming ashore at dawn on December 24, 1941. They were immediately attacked by the Philippine 1st Infantry which was dug on the beach. However, by 0800, the Philippine forces had been pushed back & the town of Mauban was secured. By the evening, Japanese invasion forces successfully landed at Lamon Bay & with similar success at Lingayen Gulf over at the north, the final drive to Manila was just a matter of time.

As a coastal town, there’s also a hidden gem off Lamon Bay to the Pacific Ocean for a unique weekend getaway that’s not too far off from Metro Manila (a 5-hour bus drive + 45-minute boat ride). The 1,640 hectares island of Cagbalete is home to a diverse ecosystem with unique variety of birds & plants, with cerulean blue waters, pristine beaches & powdery-white sandbars. This may not be an ideal place for party-goers & the meticulous (sand is no Boracay-fine of course) but it could be a haven for quiet-seekers just seeking distance from the toxic city life. The island is also a camper’s delight whether you are travelling solo or with group of friends – for a reasonable price (or just pitching fees if you bring own tents). Meanwhile, just a few nautical miles is the world-famous Balesin in Polilllo, a 500 hectares paradise known for extravagance.

Unbeknownst to many, Mauban has plenty of waterfalls & undiscovered caves, too. The hidden cascades are mostly unexplored & right now, there are 3 known to the public which are accessible – Dahoyhoy Falls, Hagdan-Hagdan Falls & Alitap Falls. Being at the southernmost tip of Sierra Madre, the country's longest mountain range, trekking in any of these will always be scenic passing thru tranquil rural farms & sometimes hanging bridges over picturesque rivers. If you’re into inland tour aside from chasing waterfalls & beaches, you can check also on the Statue of Dumagat leader Gat Uban along the Seawall, Maubanin’s version of Manila Baywalk, a modest Museo ng Mauban, an old Catholic cemetery & St. Bonaventure Parish Church.

Maubanins also have their own grand fiesta, in fact “dito sa ami’y may karera ng bangka’y!” Sounds grisly but it’s about the amazing ‘banca’ race during the Maubanog Festival, a week-long cultural extravaganza featuring the town’s colorful history, tasty local cuisine & it’s fermented nipa wine “lambanog” or “nipanog” & buri palm weaving industry called “nilala”. First held in 2000, it was a celebration supported by the National Commission for Culture & the Arts highlighted by street parade, song & dance competitions. Thus, the festival is the most anticipated event in Mauban, truly a carnival with fireworks & where fiesta is a way of life (much like its neighboring towns – Sampaloc’s Bulihan & Lucban’s famous Pahiyas).

In 2000, a 440 megawatt coal power plant, the Quezon Power Project, the 1st privately built, owned & operated power generating facility in the Philippines, was constructed to bring power to the area. And in 2022, the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has registered the biggest economic zone in the country, a 1,800-hectare, PhP125 billion project in Mauban called the Quezon Techno-Industrial Special Economic Zone (QTISEZ). This huge investment aims to build a seaport & airport in the town to support around 2,000 factories in a planned township dedicated to mixed-use development with government offices, residential & commercial buildings. We do not know if this QTISEZ will do more harm than good considering its impact on the environment. We just hope the government is doing the right thing.
