MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE TOP 9 THINGS TO SEE

Top 9 things to see and do in Maputo - Mozambique's capital city.
Maputo is a port city and the capital of Mozambique. It lies along the north bank of Espírito Santo estuary of Delagoa Bay, an inlet of the Indian Ocean. The town developed around a Portuguese fortress completed in 1787. Mozambique - a former colony of Portugal achieved independence in 1975. Following independence, Mozambique was torn by internal conflict as the Marxist government, supported in part by the Soviet Union and Cuba, battled anticommunist forces funded by South Africa and Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) for control of the country. Marked by countless acts of terror, the ensuing warfare displaced over four million people and resulted in the death of perhaps a million more as a result of the violence, famine, and disease it engendered. The horrible conflict formally ended in 1992.
Take my tour of the top things to see in Maputo.

Maputo, Mozambique

Mozambique and Maputo are the most safest places to be. You can walk and mind your own business and nobody cares. If you never been to Mozambique please do so. You will love Maputo and coastal places.

MAP OF MOZAMBIQUE

hello my friends. this is a map of Mozambique. Mozambique is located on the southeast coast of Africa and is bound by Eswatini to the south, South Africa to the southwest, Zimbabwe to the west, Zambia and Malawi to the northwest, Tanzania to the north and the Indian Ocean to the east.

The country is divided into two topographical regions by the Zambezi River. To the north of the Zambezi, the narrow coastal strip gives way to inland hills and low plateaus. Rugged highlands are further west; they include the Niassa highlands, Namuli or Shire highlands, Angonia highlands, Tete highlands and the Makonde plateau, covered with miombo woodlands. To the south of the Zambezi, the lowlands are broader with the Mashonaland plateau and Lebombo Mountains located in the deep south.

The country is drained by five principal rivers and several smaller ones with the largest and most important the Zambezi. The country has four notable lakes: Lake Niassa , Lake Chiuta, Cahora Bassa and Lake Shirwa, all in the north. The major cities are Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Tete, Quelimane, Chimoio, Pemba, Inhambane, Xai-Xai and Lichinga. thats all. please comment and subscribe for the best maps. goodbye.

A norte do Zambeze, a estreita faixa costeira dá lugar a colinas interiores e planaltos baixos.

Maputo, Mozambique

This is an incredible African coastal city closer to Gauteng than Durban & situated less than 100km from the South African border (if travelling by vehicle). This city is well worth visiting if you are looking to visit a coastal city. Take a stroll along the coconut palm promenade. Marvel at the stark contrast between the modern & older Portuguese influenced architecture. Experience the bright lights of Maputo at night.

Polana, Maputo, Mozambique

This is the perfectly located condo for a stopover or even a longer visit in Maputo. For only 680ZAR/2300MZN/36USD per night. This condo can be booked directly on Airbnb here:

Walking distance to Maputo's main attractions, Maputo Bay & hangout spots! We are so happy with this accomodation for our brief stopover in Maputo as we drive further north to explore Mozambique.

Bilene, Mozambique

We’re in Bilene for the next leg of our Mozambique travel series! Bilene lies 200km north of Maputo in the Gaza Province. It’s famous for a few things and during this leg we’ll be experiencing them all - the expansive lagoon, dunes, delectable prego & sunsets! First we make a mandatory roadside Pao purchase before turning off towards Bilene.
We’re staying at Boa Vista Resort! It’s situated right on Lagoa Uembje (Lagoon). This 1 bedroom service chalet is only 1200MZN/R350/19USD per night for 2 adults. We found Boa Vista Resort on Agoda (prices may vary)

It’s self-catering & has an en-suite, patio, double bed, barbecue facilities and well located.

Perfectly appointed along Lagoa Uembje we have a front row seat for Bilene’s famous sunset! Known for its sunsets, we specifically chose Bilene to be able to experience some of the best sunsets you will ever experience.

Bilene is known for its unmissable dunes! Naturally separating Lagoa Uembje (Lagoon) & Praia do Bilene (beach), are dunes as high as mountains! Driving these dunes is a must when in Bilene! There are also many 4x4 tours which can be arranged. The setting is beyond anything you could imagine. Dunes as far as the eye can see.

A steep & dramatic entry facing the Indian Ocean. Coastal forest & vegetation atop these majestic dunes. Beauty & exhilaration in one spectacular natural setting!

We have observed that the heart of any coastal town is where the entrepreneurial spirit resides! These are the main streets of Bilene…

Colourful fabrics & carved wooden curios a fill the streets.
There’s no shortage of fresh produce & freshly baked pao (bread). We walked along the back streets of Bilene Town to find a locally prepared beef stew.

The entrepreneurs are welcoming, warm & wonderful! All you need for a comfortable stay in Bilene can be found in the town (ATMs, fuel, food & other essentials).

Things to do here:

1. Take a drive along the shores of the lagoon.
2. Marvel at the crystal clear fresh blue water.
3. Relax at one of the many beach bars.
4. Visit Flip Flop Bar for their world famous steak pregos.

World famous sunsets here in Bilene. We found our very own hidden sunset viewing point. A solitary sand bar on the shores of Lagoa Uembje. What a way to conclude this leg of our Mozambique trip.

Exploring Mozambique: The Ultimate Travel Adventure!

#Mozambique,#TravelVlog,#PontaMalongane,#MaputoCity,#AfricanTravel,#Wanderlust,#TravelGoals,#TravelInspiration,#ExploreAfrica,#Travelgram

Mozambique culture is a blend of #African, #Portuguese, and #Arab influences. The country has a #diverse #population, with over 80 ethnic groups. The main languages spoken are Portuguese and various indigenous languages. The country's traditional music and dance reflect its rich cultural heritage. The #cuisine of Mozambique is a mix of African, Portuguese, and Indian flavours. #Seafood is a staple, and #peri-peri sauce is a popular condiment. In 1500, the population of Mozambique was mainly composed of indigenous ethnic groups, with smaller numbers of Arabs and Portuguese. The population was primarily engaged in subsistence farming and fishing.

Our travels had us spend time in Ponta Malongane which is a #coastal village located in the southern part of Mozambique, known for its unspoiled beaches, crystal-clear waters and natural #beauty. It is a perfect spot for those seeking a peaceful and quiet getaway. There is a variety of accommodation options available, ranging from self-catering chalets to luxury resorts. We stayed at Camp Lagoa for the first part of our trip and then at Mazi Vuwu for the second leg. Visitors can enjoy activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, and quad biking. Ponta Malongane is also a popular spot for #ecotourism as it is home to a variety of #wildlife, including monkeys and #birds. The area is relatively undeveloped and offers a chance to experience the true beauty of Mozambique.

We were excited and privileged to cross over the Katembe-Maputo Bridge many times during our stay. The Maputo-Katembe Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge located in Maputo, Mozambique. It spans the Maputo Bay and connects the city of Maputo with the new district of Katembe. The bridge was officially opened in 2018, and it is the longest bridge in Southern Africa, measuring 2.7 kilometers. The bridge serves as an important link for the region, greatly reducing the travel time between Maputo and the new Katembe district.

The bridge was designed by a consortium of Portuguese and South African engineers, and it was built with the support of the African Development Bank and the Government of Mozambique. The bridge has four lanes for cars, two for bicycles, and a pedestrian walkway. The bridge's main pylon is 115 meters high, making it the tallest structure in Mozambique. The bridge has become a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of the city's development. It also offers a great view of Maputo Bay and the city.

The Maputo Harbour is a major port located in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. It is the main port in the country and serves as a gateway for trade and commerce in southern Africa. The port has been in operation since 1877, and it handles a wide range of cargo, including containers, bulk goods, and liquid cargo. It is one of the busiest ports in the region, and it is equipped with modern facilities and equipment to handle large vessels.

The Maputo Harbour is also a major employer in the region, providing jobs for thousands of people. The port is operated by the state-owned Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM), which is responsible for the management and development of the port. The Maputo Harbour is strategically located at the entrance of Maputo Bay, which provides natural protection from storms and swells. The port is also connected to the rest of the country by rail and road networks.

Some of the most notable landmarks in Maputo include the Fortaleza de Maputo, a 19th-century fortress that served as a prison during the colonial era, and the Maputo Cathedral, a striking example of colonial-era architecture. The Baixa area, also known as the Lower City, is home to many historical buildings, including the Central Train Station, which was built in the early 20th century and is considered one of the most beautiful train stations in Africa.

Maputo also has a vibrant arts scene, and it is home to several museums and galleries, including the Museum of Natural History and the National Museum of Art. The city is also known for its excellent seafood and its bustling street markets, which offer a variety of local crafts and goods.

Maputo is also a destination for many tourists visiting Mozambique and it offers a good infrastructure with well-maintained roads, and a good public transport system.

Obrigado às pessoas de Maputo e Ponta Malongane pela sua hospitalidade.
