Canton of Ticino
Ticino, sometimes Tessin, officially the Republic and Canton of Ticino or less formally the Canton of Ticino, is one of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of eight districts and its capital city is Bellinzona. It is also traditionally divided into the Sopraceneri and the Sottoceneri, respectively north and south of Monte Ceneri.
Morcote
It is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Ticino situated about 10 kilometres from Lugano in the district of Lugano on the shore of Lake Lugano. Starting around 1100, Morcote was home to a castle that was built to guard and control commerce on the lake.
Lake Lugano
Lago di Lugano (or Ceresio) is a glacial lake which is situated on the border between southern Switzerland and northern Italy. The lake, named after the city of Lugano, is situated between Lake Como and Lago Maggiore. It was cited for the first time by Gregory of Tours in 590 with the name Ceresio, a name which is said to have derived from the Latin word cerasus, meaning cherry, and refers to the abundance of cherry trees which at one time adorned the shores of the lake. The lake appears in documents in 804 under the name Laco Luanasco.
Lugano
It is a town and a municipality in southern Switzerland in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino bordering Italy. The territory of the municipality was expanded between 2004 and 2013. Lugano has a population (as of December 2019) of 62,615, and an urban agglomeration of over 150,000. The ninth largest Swiss town, it is the largest in Ticino and largest with an Italian speaking majority outside of Italy. The town lies on Lake Lugano, surrounded by the mountains of the Lugano Prealps.
The municipality Lugano lies at the edge of Lake Lugano, which is situated between the lakes Lago Maggiore and Lago di Como, south of the Alps. It lies at the heart of the Sottoceneri, that part of the canton of Ticino that lies south of the Monte Ceneri Pass.
Lugano is amongst the warmest places in Switzerland, along with Locarno and Grono. Lugano has a rare humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa) for the latitude, closely bordering on a subtropical oceanic climate (Köppen: Cfb) due to the warmer average being 22 °C (71.6 °F).

A drive down from Porza to the Anthony Burgess chalet at Via Cantonale 63, Savosa. Porza and Savosa are districts outside Lugano with delightful views of the lake. Burgess wrote 'A Mouthful of Air' and many other works here.
Burgess writes in 'You've Had Your Time', the second volume of his autobiography: 'Why...do we spend some months every year in Ticino? Chiefly because we are crowded out by books, the Monaco summer, heralded by the Grand Prix, is oppressive, and we have a fancy for air well above sea level, mountain crests with occasional snow on them, the sense of space.'
