Now on to the beautiful villages of Occitanie, France - Food, People & History.
Quite a few departements, or districts, along the Pyrenees mountains and the Mer Mediterranee form what we call l’Occitanie. The weather, the scenery, the food, the people are all beautiful, and it is very rich in history.
So, I chose a few stops along the road that I would love to share with you in this video…
Starting with Limoux, famous for its white sparkling wine, before champagne was even born.
Then Arques, a small village, home to a castle with a main square tower which dates back to the 13th century…
The old bridge of Cassaigne…
The Pierre Lys Gorge…
And this is Villefranche de Conflent, a medieval town with an impressive, rather secure gate to the city, … its narrow streets … totally quaint and picturesque.
This was a station for merchants and traders to calibrate their rulers accurately and sell their goods in all fairness in regard to price and quantity. This particular area lived on the textile industry, canvas, ribbons, iron, and leather.
Not surprisingly one of the most beautiful villages of France, Villefranche de Conflent is also a marvel of military architecture, classified by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

VENASQUE - 4K | Les Plus Beaux Villages de France| Most Beautiful Villages of France |
Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Venasque is one of several villages to make the list from the Vaucluse region.
Just a 10 minute drive away from Gordes (Voted number 1 in France) the pair of unique picturesque European villages are easily visited in the same day.
Close to the Mont Ventoux, Châteauneuf du Pape, Avignon and more, this village is at the hear of the region just south of the Rhône.
All around the village there are trails that are easily hiked and that's what we did the day we went. Some very cool cliffs with loads of rock climbers and campers in their vans.
A very special place for those looking to do some easy yet stunningly beautiful outdoor activities.

This shows what 2 service areas along the French Autoroute A4 a/k/a Autoroute de l'Est (Motorway of the East) look like out in the countryside of France. The date is 7/26/19. I wish I could have gotten a bit more footage but did my best in the circumstances. I'm not sure what region the first service area is but the second one near Reims is definitely Grand Est.

With a population of 5500 and a magnicent town gateway called La Porte du Soubeyran the town also has 2 impressive statues, one 'The Beast of Gevaudan' and the other of 'Henry IV of France'. The wolf park of Gevaudan is not far away where over 100 wolves live almost naturally, the wolf being very much part of Marvejols history.

La Margeride et le val d'allier en Lozère ♦ HOTEL EN FRANCE
Au cœur du Massif Central, la Margeride forme une remarquable ligne de faîte, presque toujours au-dessus de 1400 m, depuis les confins du Cézallier et du Cantal au Nord jusqu'au Moure de la Gardille au Sud. C'est un remarquable centre de dispersion des eaux qui se dirigent à l'Est vers la Loire par les affluents de l'Allier, à l'Ouest, vers la Garonne par le Lot et la Truyère et au Sud vers l'Ardèche par le Chassezac.
L'allure générale n'est pas celle d'une vraie montagne et les sommets dépassent à peine 1500 m (1552 au Truc de Fortunio, 1551 au Signal de Randon, tous les deux situés dans le Sud du massif). Mais il s'agit bien de hautes terres, partout au-dessus de 1000 m, compactes, découpées en plateaux étagés. Le gradin central, le plus élevé, est généralement appelé Montagne d'altitude supérieure à 1300 m, il n'atteint guère plus de 6 à 8 km de large sauf aux deux extrémités où il prend de l'ampleur; il se présente sous la forme de hautes surfaces, interfluves lourds et convexes, localement creusés par des dépressions en forme d'alvéole de taille et de nature diverses, très vastes au Nord à Paulhac ou à La Besseyre-Saint-Mary, plus petits à Chanaleilles, La Villedieu ou Froidviala, parfois réduits à de simples demi-alvéoles perchés au-dessus de la bordure (Saint-Privat-du-Fau, les Ducs à l'Ouest; Bugeac, Madrières à l'Est).
Sans le val d’Allier on oublierait presque que la Lozère est le pays des sources et qu’à l’est de son territoire coule une rivière. Cette rivière, l’Allier, prend sa source au Moure de la Gardille (1503 m), en foret de Mercoire près de Cheylard l’Evêque. Après avoir recueilli les eaux des quelques ruisseaux locaux (le Langouyrou, l’Espezonnette et le Chapeauroux par le Grandrieu) ainsi que de la retenue d’eau du lac de montagne de Naussac, elle traverse successivement le Velay, l’Auvergne, le Bourbonnais et se jette 410 km en aval dans la Loire près de Nevers.
La Lozère est le département le moins peuplé de France mais sa population est en constante augmentation depuis 1999.

Densité : 14,8 habitants au km2
