Dijon est une commune française, préfecture du département de la Côte-d'Or et chef-lieu de la région Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Elle se situe entre le bassin parisien et le bassin rhodanien, sur l'axe Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée, à 310 kilomètres au sud-est de Paris et 190 kilomètres au nord de Lyon.
Ses habitants, appelés les Dijonnais, étaient au nombre de 156 854 en 2018. L'unité urbaine, qui comptabilisait pour sa part 245 875 habitants, est la première agglomération de la région en nombre d'habitants. La ville est au centre d'une intercommunalité, Dijon Métropole, comprenant 23 communes et 253 638 habitants et d'une aire urbaine de 387 382 habitants.
Capitale historique du duché de Bourgogne, ville aux cent clochers1 sous l'Ancien Régime, héritière d'un riche patrimoine historique et architectural, Dijon est une cité touristique dont l'attrait est renforcé par la réputation gastronomique de la région. Le centre historique de la ville est la seconde composante des climats du vignoble de Bourgogne, inscrits depuis le 4 juillet 2015 au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO2.

Dijon est la préfecture de la région de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, et du département de la Côte-d'Or. La commune se situe à l'extrémité nord de la Côte des vins de Bourgogne aussi nommée « Route des Grands Crus » et qui s'étend de Dijon à Beaune pour sa partie côte-d'orienne.
La capitale bourguignonne se situe au cœur d'une campagne composée de deux rivières convergentes : le Suzon, qui la traverse du nord au sud, et l'Ouche, au sud de la ville ; au sud s'étend la « côte » de vignobles qui a donné son nom au département. Elle se situe à 310 kilomètres au sud-est de Paris, 190 au nord-ouest de Genève et 190 au nord de Lyon.
Située sur un carrefour ferroviaire de l'est de la France (ligne Paris-Lyon-Marseille, bifurcations vers Besançon, Belfort, Nancy, la Suisse, l'Italie (par le tunnel ferroviaire du Fréjus et le Simplon)), la ville est desservie par un des principaux nœuds autoroutiers français aux croisements des autoroutes A6, A31, A36 et A39n 2.
« Dijon prend naissance dans la plaine alluviale du Suzon, creusée dans les argiles tertiaires de la « Plaine » qui s'étend largement à l'est »g 1, suivant le cours de la Saône. La plaine est en effet un fossé tectonique situé à une vingtaine de kilomètres de Dijon, remblayé par les marnes et les argiles oligocènes atteignant une hauteur géologique de 100 mètres à Dijon.

Dijon France - The Impressive Notre Dame de Dijon and Local Dijon Mustard Shops. Dijon is a modern, growing city with a well-designed boat harbor. It is the center of Côte d'Or and was the ancient capital of Burgundy in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Visitors can wend their way through the narrow streets of the old quarter and may be drawn to the city's numerous museums; the Ducal Palace, which opens onto the square; the Parliament Building; and the 13th century Cathedral St-Bénigne, with its Romanesque crypt.
A number of the buildings in Dijon sport roofs with glazed tiles of varied colors and patterns. And of course the mustard merchants sell their wares in beautiful faïence jars. The recipe for the world-famous condiment dates to the 4th century AD.
Burgundy
Burgundy boasts some of the world's finest wines with around 60,000 acres of sunlit vines and arguably the prettiest canals in France. The Burgundy Canal winds its way in smooth curves through the heart of renowned wine growing areas such as Chablis, Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, or rises steeply through a flight of locks that appear like staircases.
The Nivernais Canal meanders alongside the picturesque River Yonne, through a largely undiscovered region near the Morvan Hills, passing sleepy villages and Charolais cattle grazing in the lush pastures. This is the original home of hotel barging with its hand-swung bridges and old logging sites, and where time seems to have stood still for centuries.
The landscape around the Burgundy Canal is one of rolling hills eroded over the centuries and covered in forests of oak, maple and pine and where spring, summer and autumn each leave a unique signature. Medieval towns are surrounded by unspoilt countryside and the wonderful markets have stalls brimming with fresh local products cultivated on the fertile plains.
This is a region with a vast variety of cheeses, in all shapes, sizes and colours, strong in character or mild and fresh and all can be enjoyed with full-bodied red Burgundies, or perhaps with lighter white Chablis wines. Burgundy's gastronomic tradition is certainly rich and diverse and a sedate cruise on a hotel barge along one of its delightful waterways will allow you to indulge in good food and wine, two of the real pleasures in life.
What is hotel barging?
Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especiallly on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers.
This is cruising, but in a very different style to ships plying the big rivers or oceans. The pace is slow, with a 6 day cruise covering maybe just 50 miles along a rural canal. Passengers can walk or bike the towpaths as their floating hotel glides gently along. Guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere, high levels of personal service and immersion into the culture, history and gastronomy of regions of Europe such as Burgundy, the Midi, or the Italian Veneto.
Every day there is an excursion, perhaps to a chateau, a vineyard for a wine tasting, or some other ‘off the beaten track’ location. The Hotel de Vogue of Dijon in Côte d'Or is a mansion of the xvii th century , built in the French Renaissance . It is located at 8 rue de la Chouette , near the bedside of Notre Dame Church. The hotel was classified as a historical monument on January 5, 1911. This mansion richly decorated, was built in 1614 for Étienne Bouhier Chevigny if we believe the date on the large fireplace in the guard room. He was a magistrate and councilor in the parliament of Burgundy from 1607 to 1635 as well as a great art lover. Adhering to architecture, he was given the opportunity to have been the architect of his hotel. The latter is considered the prototype of Dijon parliamentary hotels.
This noble style, which can find in Toulouse , Montpellier and Nimes , is influenced significantly by the language of the Italian Renaissance. Indeed, the will is to reconnect with the modes of previous constructions. This is facilitated by such treaties of the xvi th century , which all refer to ancient monuments. Moreover, in the case of this hotel, the possibility of influence (ivy leaves) from the achievements of architect Hugues Sambin can not be ruled out. In the courtyard, the plan of the hotel takes again that of the new private mansions between courtyard and garden: main body vis-a-vis the portico with the Italian framing the entry, two wings in return framing the court and forming pavilions.
The decoration of facades reminiscent of the xvi th century pediments curved and triangular masks , garlands, but the caryatids are gone, replaced by fins . The roof is made of a mosaic of glazed tiles in the Burgundy style. The arcades of the portico of the entrance are surmounted by a rich decoration with fame half recumbent in the spandrels . The columns are intertwined with ivy. On their bases were engraved the monogram EBMG celebrating the second marriage of Etienne Bouhier contracted on April 25, 1615 with Madeleine Giroud.
The left portal was pierced in 1717 to allow entry of the coaches to the garden where stables had been built.
The garden facade is devoid of decoration outside the animation given by the two turrets on a square plan. The guard room near the entrance has a large fireplace decorated with a painting representing Hero and Leander. Caryatids decorate the mantelpieces. In 1766 the hotel became the property of the family of Vogüé by the marriage, on November 29, of Catherine Bouhier de Versalieu with the count Cerice-François Melchior de Vogüé. Currently owned by the City of Dijon , it houses the city's human resources department. It has a glazed tile roof of Burgundy .

Il comprend également 13 premiers crus (dont les Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Pucelles et Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Perrières), également plantés en Chardonnay. Ses vins sont concentrés et floraux, sur des arômes d'aubépine, d'acacia et des notes minérales.

Le vin d'appellation d'origine contrôlée puligny-montrachet est produit dans cette commune. Cette appellation est incluse dans le vignoble de la côte de Beaune, en Bourgogne. Outre ces grands vins, la commune viticole de Puligny-Montrachet a l'autorisation de produire des vins génériques comme: le Bourgogne Aligoté, le Crémant de Bourgogne, le Bourgogne, le Bourgogne Passe-tout-grains et les coteaux bourguignons15.
Alexandre Dumas disait qu'ils devraient être bus « à genoux et tête découverte ». Thomas Jefferson les considérait comme les meilleurs au monde. Et dire qu'ils prennent naissance sur ce Mont Chauve, trait d'union entre Puligny-Montrachet et Chassagne-Montrachet. Une « petite montagne bien sèche et bien laide », disait Stendhal, mais qui offre un vin si grand, si charnu qu'il est depuis toujours considéré comme l'un des meilleurs blancs.
Le puligny-montrachet est un vin français d'appellation d'origine contrôlée, produit sur une partie de la commune de Puligny-Montrachet, dans le département de la Côte-d'Or.
Ce vin, produit essentiellement en blanc sec à partir de chardonnay, fait partie des appellations communales du vignoble de la côte de Beaune ; à peu près la moitié des vignes est classée en premiers crus. La réputation de grande qualité du puligny-montrachet s'est construite notamment grâce à la proximité du grand cru qu'est le montrachet.
Si la production viticole à cet endroit est très ancienne, la réputation de ce vin blanc ne commence à se faire qu'au xviiie siècle, vendu alors souvent sous le nom de « Morachet » ou de « Mont-Rachet ». Les vins de Puligny deviennent ceux de Puligny-Montrachet en 1878, puis un jugement de 1921 délimite le Montrachet et interdit d'en usurper le nom. Reprenant cette séparation, deux appellations sont créées en 1937, l'une portant le nom du cru (montrachet), l'autre portant le nom du village.
La création des appellations d'origine par la loi du 6 mai 1919 oblige les producteurs et le commerce à donner aux vins des noms conformes à leur origine25, ce qui permet le 17 février 1921 à huit négociants et propriétaires possessionnés sur les pentes du Montrachet (mené par Julien Bouchard) d'intenter un procès aux propriétaires voisins (ceux sur « soit Chevalier Montrachet, soit Bâtard Montrachet, soit Bienvenues, soit Pucelles soit Autrement »)26 qui vendent du vin sous le nom de « Montrachet ». La décision de justice du 12 mai 1921 donne raison aux demandeurs.
Reprenant la délimitation du jugement de 1921, les décrets du 31 juillet 1937 créent officiellement les appellations puligny-montrachet, montrachet, chevalier-montrachet, bâtard-montrachet et blagny (presque toutes les appellations bourguignonnes sont créées par cette série de décrets)27. Le dernier grand cru de la commune, bienvenues-bâtard-montrachet, obtient son appellation par le décret du 13 juin 1939.
Le vignoble de Montrachet est la perle des vins blancs de Bourgogne. C’est un des cinq climats de Grands Cru, situé autour de la colline Mont-Rachet, au-dessus du petit village de Puligny-Montrachet. Ces vignobles produisent les vins les plus chers et les plus rares dans le monde, souvent considéré comme l’expression suprême du cépage Chardonnay.
Ces parcelles de Grand Cru sont plantées uniquement avec du Chardonnay, car leurs appellations sont limitées à la production de vins blancs secs. Comme c’est le cas partout en Bourgogne, chacun des climats a sa propre appellation spécifique, indépendante des appellations communales. L’appellation Montrachet a été créée en 1937 et les lois, très strictes, contrôlent les rendements, la densité de plantation, les niveaux de maturité de récolte ainsi que les techniques de vinification.

We travelled from Turkey to Georgia and it ended up beinf 20-hours of driving. As we were driving from Kars in Turkey the border closed which meant we had to make a detour and drive to the border crossing in Batumi before it closes as well.
The road to Kazbegi is not a fun one in the middle of the night and in the middle of winter. The old military highway is lined with trucks, soviet tunnels only big enough for one car to pass, no lights and threatening mountain passes and cliffs.

Hiking to the Montagne Sainte- Victoire, France
Montagne Saint Victoire is a limestone mountain, located at Aix- en Provence,France. This mountain become known by Christians in the Middle Ages as a Sainte- Venture. In the 13th century, a chapel was constructed at the summit.
This a very fun and and best hiking Experienced We started from the Barrage De Bimont Dum and followed the blue route up to the hill.Challenging on the way down but very fun , its about 5 hours in total.
2010 Harvest at Chateau de Meursault by My Grape Escape
- I liberated my Flip MinoHD camcorder of sticky, awkward Chardonnay juice and was on hand to record the first few precious moments of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir harvest in Château de Meursault. Despite sounding half way between drunk and hungover and totally disinterested, I am actually beyond excitment to be there. I can only put my hazy stupor down to an afternoon's over-indulgence in crème d'artichaut, foie gras au canard and cappuccino de ratte. Boy did I land on my feet!
Anyway, whether you're a wine nerd or a more casual dabbler, I hope you'll find the video interesting and informative. For me it was great to see a winery up close in action and I'm hoping you get a similar sense watching from home.
The Chardonnay grapes that star in this video will go into the excellent Clos du Château, and we kept re-visiting the 2008 when we were over there.
