The town of Ocean City is about 10 miles long and features a three-mile-long boardwalk that is lined with shops, restaurants, and amusement parks. There’s a reason the island has been immortalized in songs like Jimmy Buffet’s Tin Cup Chalice and Steve Tolliver’s Key West is the Best — there are a ton of great things to do in Key West, Florida. You can spend the day sunbathing or swimming on beaches like Smathers Beach and Fort Zachary Taylor Beach. Or tour one of the island’s historic landmarks like Ernest Hemingway’s home or the Harry S. Truman Little White House.
Of course, Key West is well-known for its selection of bars where you can relax with a good drink in hand. Go old school at Sloppy Joe’s, which has been around since the end of Prohibition, or try a newer spot like Hank’s Hair of the Dog Saloon or the Rum Bar. You can even tour one of the island’s rum distilleries if you want to learn more about how it’s made.
One of the best things to do in Key West, Florida is to take in the amazing views around the island. Climb the steps to the top of the Key West Lighthouse or take a boat tour around the island to get a different perspective. You can even combine some of these things and take a tour on a tiki boat, sipping a tropical cocktail while you take in the sights.
Key West is the southernmost point in the continental U.S. and you can get a picture with the marker at the spot that’s actually the furthest south. At that point, you’re only 90 miles away from Cuba.
