I check out some of the popular 4WD day trips in the Blue Mountains.
You can do one of these trips even if you only have a half day spare.
Murphys Glen 4WD track was closed for maintenance but I explored Tablelands Road out to Battleship Tops and McMahons Point lookout and Mount Hay Road.
The Great Western Railway Adventure (Zig Zag to Bathurst)
In this video, Amy and I headed out to explore various railway stations all over the Blue Mountains and Central West, along the Main West Line. We explored the following landmarks:
- Zig Zag Station (open)
- Zig Zag Heritage Railway (runs heritage services every weekend!)
- Lithgow Station (open) and various other railway landmarks around Lithgow
- Wallerawang Station (closed)
- Rydal Station (open)
- Tarana Station (closed)
- Oberon Branch Railway and Oberon Station (both closed)
- Bathurst Station (open) and various landmarks around Bathurst

Challenger 4WD Trip # 21 Lidsdale State Forest Thru to Marrangaroo National Park.
A solo day 4WD trip to Lidsdale State Forest and then into Marrangaroo National Park. It's an area with many 4WD tracks to explore, steep low-range hill climbs and river crossings. The main features are Mount Walker and the Cox's River which winds through the park. The scenery varies from pristine bush to cleared camp sites, and the National Park is high enough for alpine snow gums. It's a great day trip for muddy off-roading and accessible from Sydney. I'm considering going back with the camper trailer because of the many camping options.
Cox River- Lidsdale & Marrangaroo Camp and 4wd explore weekend
In this 4wd and camping adventure we explore the Lidsdale and Marrangaroo area camping along the Cox's river.
Crossing over the Cox's river is one of the highlights of exploring this area along with Firetruck Hill and endless tracks of 4wheeling fun!
This truely is a place you can go back to over and over again with campsites scattered along the river and various track difficulties that can challenge the best of us, including Firetruck Hill and Mt Walker. For Max and I, driving the Cox was the best part, crossing over the river more than a few times while we exploring the many 4wd tracks this area has to offer.
If you are looking for an awesome weekend or a few days of 4wd and camping fun you have get to get out to explore this area!
It is a must see 4wd destination!!

Blue Mountains River Camping - Coxs river - Marrangaroo N.P. - Lidsdale state forest - Landcruiser
Welcome back to the channel, Natasha and I head off on a friday afternoon in search of a nice secluded spot on the coxs river in the Marrangaroo national park. this area is close to lithgow and near lake lyell. We had a great weekend and came home well relaxed,hope you enjoy this one.

The weekender Countrylink Explorer train makes its way to Bathurst and Dubbo New South Wales in the morning. The long straight takes it to the underpass known as Tunnel Hill where it will pass Wallerawang, Rydal, Tarana and Bathurst and other stations reaching Dubbo at approximately 1pm.

On a 3-D animated map, a trail starts on day 1 at Pretty Beach, just near Kioloa, and weaves along the coastline for 10.1 kilometres to Depot Beach. On day 2, leaving the campsite at Depot Beach, the trail continues along a curving beach, passing Durras North and South Durras, then winding around headlands. After 15.9 kilometres, the trail culminates at Oaky Beach.Departing from the campsite at Oaky Beach on day 3, the last leg of the trip, the trail twists and turns down the coast, past North Head, and comes to its conclusion after 7.5 kilometres at Maloneys Beach in Batemans Bay. Taking in the 4WD Oberon Colong Historic Stock Route through to the Kowmung River Fire Trail, Dingo Dell camping area, Tuglow Caves, the Kowmung River, and finally the Morong Creek Crossing, plus a quick look at Kanangra Walls. An ideal day trip or weekend away with creek crossings and low range climbs and descents. This is part of the old Caves to Caves Trail but both Wombeyan Caves and Jenolan Caves roads are once again closed. Sydney’s hidden track - Kurrajong Discovery Trail - Places to see Sydney- NSW - Australia

This is known as a easy trail but you will still need a vehicle with 4WD.

Penrose State Forest 4WD Trip # 2
Day trip from Sydney to Penrose State Forest. It's one of the most recognizable State Forests as it is located on both sides of the Hume Highway in the Southern Highlands. High range 4WD so good for AWD vehicles as well. Great place to test your new vehicle as there are plenty of tracks to explore. We didn't find the mysterious abandoned yacht which used to be in a clearing on the edge of the forest. Great scenery, native forest as well as the plantation pine forests that the area is known for. The next video will be on Belanglo State Forest which is only 20 kms away.
