Mangatarem derived its name from the combination of the Ilocano word “Manga ken Tirem” which means “mango and oyster”. According to old tales, the name “Mangatarem” was attributed to woodcutters who happened to meet each other in a forested area which is now the present site of the town. One of them had a mango as his viand while the other one had oysters. When both of them saw this, they exclaimed “Manga ken Tirem”, thus, the name Mangatirem or Mangatarem.

A short cut national road connecting Pangasinan - Zambales now a famous tourist attraction due to its refreshing mountain terrain and the magnificent view.
Sunset here in Daang Kalikasan is also stunning that's why tourists are waiting for dawn for taking selfies and pictorials. Overall, this place is a perfect place to commune with nature!

Mangatarem, officially the Municipality of Mangatarem (Pangasinan: Baley na Mangatarem; Ilocano: Ili ti Mangatarem; Tagalog: Bayan ng Mangatarem), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Pangasinan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 79,323 people. [3]

The Pacalat River is a local favorite hotspot in Mangatarem. There are kubos within the vicinity where visitors can leave their things before splashing into the cool and refreshing water of the river. A long hanging bridge hovers over the river which some locals use as a shortcut to go to the other side. The water is usually shallow but some parts, especially down the river, become deep due to fast currents.
