St Nicholas Monastery Founded in 1241 by Alexander Nevsky in Staraya Ladoga, Russia. Full Tour
According to the legend, the monastery was founded by Grand Prince St. Alexander Nevsky in
1240-1242 nearthe church of St. Nicholas (12th-13th centuries).
The monastery was lundered in the 14th and at the beginning of the 17th century. In the 18th century, it was closed by the decree of Empress Catherine II.
At the beginning of the 19th century, it was revived and restored. In Soviet times, the monastery was abolished (1935).
Since 2003, it has been experiencing a second resurrection. In the monastery, there are more than 20 monuments of federal significance: the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (13-18 centuries), the church of St. John Chrysostom (19th century), the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist, the church of St. Basil the Great, a bell tower, a holy gate, four chapels, cell and service buildings, and a hermitage.
Divine services are daily performed in the church of St. John Chrysostom. On Saturdays, service is held in the Church of the Accession of John the Baptist on Malysheva Hill, and on Saturdays - in the monastery in the chapel of St. Basil the Great.
In summer, the monastery is open from 8.00
to 19.00, in winter - from 8.00 to 18.00.
