I am Grace on Tour and travel has been my biggest passion ever since I can remember. My very first international trip was done two weeks after I was born. In the summer of 2018 I started posting on this channel as I set off on a trip around Asia before studying a semester in Taiwan. During this time my love for travel grew and I tried to travel to new places during my weekends off from university. Throughout uni I made travel a priority and worked multiple side jobs to fund my travels. After doing my thesis in Hong Kong I graduated in June 2019. At this point I decided to take a gap year and go traveling. My goal was to visit as many countries as possible. I soon realized that travel is what I love and wan´t to keep on doing. I now dream of visiting every country in the world.

Mexico to Guatemala Border Crossing | Tapachula to Lake Atitlan via Talisman & Malacatán

#bordercrossing #mexicoguatemala #talisman #malacatan

Our first overland border crossing of the year and our two year old's first one ever, we started our journey from CDMX where we flew from Mexico City to Tapachula, spent the night and prepared for a long day of travel from Tapachula to Lake Atitlan via Talisman and Malacatán.

With over 5 buses and a boat to get from Tapachula in Mexico to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, below we have included the full breakdown in costs, buses and how best follow the same route. It's an easy border crossing, we had no issues and felt extremely safe. It's also very cheap to do! Just make sure to bring snacks!

If you enjoy our videos, feel free to buy us a coffee:

Kids Airplane Footrest:

Keeping it as cheap as possible, our starting point was Mexico City, flying to Tapachula airport with Volaris for €212 (3 of us).

[Mexico City to Tapachula]
- Flights total €75
- Bags: €44
- Airport tax: €93
- Taxi from Tapachula airport 300peso
- Accommodation Tapachula €15
- Taxi from accommodation to Tapachula Centre 50peso

From there we took public transport the whole way to Lake Atitlan. See below ???? for full breakdown and route with costs:

Step 1
[Tapachula to Talisman]
- In Tapachula, colectivos to Talisman stop here: or anywhere along the Gustavo Diaz Ordez main road.
- 'Talisman Fronterra' will be written on the front. Costs 23pesos per person.

Step 3
[Immigration]
- Make sure you have you proof that you paid tourist tax (if you flew into Mexico, it'll be on your itemised receipt which you can request from the airline).

Step 4
[Collectivo to Malacatán]
- Just after the immigration office on the left. Take the colectivo Malacatán for 5Q or you can pay 30Q to San Marcos per person. The colectivo will drop you off at Malacatán and you'll change but have already paid. It will be a 1.5hr colectivo.

Step 5
[Malacatán to San Marcos]
The colectivo will drop you at the corner and direct you to the bus station. We we were walking towards the bus station a chicken bus to San Marcos (stops in Xela) passed and we jumped on straight away. It cost 30Q to San Marcos.

Step 6
[San Marcos to Central, Xajaxac Solola Park]
The bus stops at San Marcos Bus Station (Google coordinates here 14.969025,-91.792829). There is no direct bus to Panajachel, instead the bus will drop you off at Parque Central, Xajaxac Solola which is slightly closer than Los Encuentros and much easier access to the lake.

Step 7
[Xajaxac Solola Park to Solola Central]
Wait at the corner and any chicken bus will head down to Solola for 3Q. It

Step 8
[Solola Central to Panajachel]
The bus will drop you at the central park in Solola and from the same location you take a bus directly to Panajachel. They leave regularly and cost 5Q

Step 9
The bus will drop you at the petrol station close to the pier. The last boat leaving Panajachel was 7:30pm and cost 30Q.

Left Tapachula at 10am
Arrived to Talisman at 10.30am
Left the border at 11:15am to Malacatan
Caught the 12pm bus to San Marco
Jumped the 2pm bus from San Marco
Arrived to Xela at 3.30 - toilet and food break! (It's the same bus no need to change).
Left Xela at 4pm
Arrived at the corner of Parque Central, Xajaxac Solola 5.45pm
We got the 7.30pm lancha from Panajachel to San Pedro for 30Q.

Carretera a Malacatan desde el cruce de la Virgen CA-2

Doing a visa run from Guatemala to Mexico in ONE day!

My 90 day visa for Guatemala and CA-4 countries was running out and I had to do a visa run to update my passport. Officially people are meant to leave Guatemala and stay in Mexico for 72 hours before returning. I wanted to see if I could do it in ONE day. Did I do it? Of course I did, but not without any trouble though.....The process is quite simple and although I was getting stressed, it is easy with a bit of acting skills to get back in :)

The journey itself is as follows, if you are going do this visa run:

Quetzaltenango (Xela) main bus terminal (down on Maps.me as Xela Terminal) to San Marcos - Cost Q20 - Chicken bus

San Marcos (same bus stop) to Malacatan - Cost Q30 - Chicken bus

At Malacatan ask at the bus stop for the collectivo (minibus) for Tecun Uman, its 2 streets away going out of the bus station and turning right. Cost Q25 - Collectivo

At Tecun Uman bus station, you can see the border crossing on map.me and is about 10 minute walk.

The journey back is the same but you need to be back in San Marcos for 5 o'clock as this is the time of the last bus to Xela. This bus is away from the bus station and I had to take a collectivo to get there, ask at the bus station and someone will point the way.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments below.

MEXICO-GUATEMALA, Border Crossing by Car - All you need to know

We explain all you need to do and what document you need to cross the Mexican/Guatemalan border by car with a dog.

In this episode we prepare all the documents as well as exploring the city of San Cristobal de Casa, the biggest city before the border crossing a La Mesilla.

La Mesilla is one of the few safest border crossing between these two countries. It's also the shortest route to Lake Atitlan.

We recommend to do all your copies and get your paper sorted wether your are travelling with a dog or not, in this city.

Hugo, the Vet from Vida Veterinaria is the guy to talk with for getting the health certificate.

While we do our normal chores, shopping, laundry, paperwork, water filling, we get to explore the beautiful San Cristobal.

We fall in love with this colourful and vibrant city, full of good cafes, restaurant of any kind, pubs and hotel. The city centre offers everything you are looking for. Another thing we really like is to see the local people wearing their typical dresses. Definitely recommend to spend few days here.

Let us know if this video it's helpful for you and if you have any questions related to border crossing that we can help with.

ITALIANO
