10 Poorest Places in The UK

What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.
9. Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland
Wales doesn’t have a monopoly on poor places. Scotland has, at least, one of the 10 poorest places in the UK. You’ll find the ninth on our list in Inverclyde. This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. When it comes to safety, this town is among the most dangerous of small towns, villages, and cities in West Yorkshire. It’s faring badly in income deprivation, employment deprivation, education, skills and training deprivation, health deprivation, and disability. The 2021 overall crime rate in South Elmsall was 111 crimes per 1,000 people Living in this small town, you will be on a downward spiral of ill health and at the risk of premature death or the impairment of quality of life caused by poor physical or mental health.

10 Ugliest Towns in England

What are the ugliest towns in England? It might sound inconceivable that any town in England, the home of the Queen, can be as ugly as towns in developing parts of the world. In architecture, England is filled with unique public spaces within the country that make the town centers quite appealing and serve to promote ecosystems. Besides, parks and green open spaces are in abundance in this land to glorify the works of art. Yet, the architectural rejuvenation programs cropping up each year show that many towns in England are not doing too well in maintaining the structural remnants of the region’s architectural heritage. Those towns are ugly, to say the least. Here is a list of the ugliest towns in England.
10. Bracknell
As one of those on our list of ugliest towns in the UK, we have to begin this one also with Bracknell, a town in Berkshire, which is also a civil parish and a large town. This administrative center of the Borough of Bracknell Forest is not keeping pace with the drive towards having beautiful town centers in the entire old British Empire. It surely deserves a place here.
The condition in Bracknell in recent times has become bad such that a survey ranked it as one of the ugliest town centers in the UK. The survey isn’t baseless as it finds proof in homes that were haphazardly built there. The roads and city center are not convenient to navigate.
9. Blackburn
Somewhat uglier than Bracknell is Blackburn, a large industrial town in Lancashire. The town located 13 kilometers east of Preston and 34 kilometers north-northwest of Manchester seems to be deliberately left out in the country’s architectural scheme as it is lacking in all of these. A comparison of statistics for this administrative center paints a very grim picture. The most saddening of this is that it’s one of the most deprived areas of England.
Lovers and sympathizers of Blackburn have decried the ghettoization of the town center which is terribly ugly and for some decades has been sleepwalking and drifting. Some residents say they are just slumming it in the town for the sake of lack of a better place.
8. Chatham
Chatham, a town within the Medway unitary authority that is in the ceremonial county of Kent is another one of the ugliest towns in England. This town which developed around Chatham Dockyard has reasons to be beautiful if the potential is harnessed, especially with several Army barracks that provided a defensive shield for the dockyard.
However, this and the Corps of Royal Engineers still based in the town at Chatham at Brompton Barracks appear to be preventing it from reaching its potential in architectural designs. Thus, this town has once been named the most slobbish town in all of Britain. Because of the poor array of homes in the town center, the majority of the residents in the town aren’t happy.
7. Maidenhead
Maidenhead also qualifies itself as one of the ugliest towns in England. It’s a market town located in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead situated in the county of Berkshire. Sharing its borders also with Buckinghamshire, the town of Maidenhead is on the southwestern bank of the Thames River.

10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

My Town: first time back home in TWO years! // Maidenhead, Wells, Bath.

With the rise of COVID, national and international restrictions I missed Christmas and birthdays and was unable to get home to see my family and friends. Finally, almost two years later, I managed to get back to my town of Maidenhead.

Over the years in Madrid people often ask me about where I'm from. So, naturally, I thought I'd make a little ode to the place. I squeezed as much Englishness into one week as possible with extra visits to my 'second home' Bath, Wells and Goring.

I ate far too much, didn't drink as much I thought I might, and generally, and finally, was able to relax. There were rivers and forest, vineyards, pies and beer.

Enjoy.

10 Most Miserable Towns in the UK

What are the most miserable towns in the United Kingdom? Many of the towns in the United Kingdom are not doing too badly in terms of basic amenities. The quality of life in those towns is higher even than in places recognized as cities in other countries. Still, it can’t be said that all those towns are having it equally. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

10 Most Dangerous Areas for Crime in England

What are the most dangerous areas in England? In recent years, crime has been the single most potent threat to security in England as well as in other parts of the world. For that reason, you can’t afford to turn a deaf ear whenever the discussion is about crime-ridden areas. This video focuses on the recent crime situation in England. It is about the overall number of crimes and their rate in the policing areas of England. Thus, we present the 10 most dangerous Policing areas for crime in England. We modestly acknowledge the fact there can be contrary figures regarding the rate. Yet, we believe you and we can rely to a very large extent on figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). That is the basis of our ranking in this video.
10. Durham
The first policing area we shall be talking about is County Durham, simply referred to officially as Durham. Its county town is the city of Durham. It is a ceremonial county spawning from the historic County Palatine of Durham. It is also one of the 10 most dangerous counties in the UK. The most common crimes here are violence and sexual offenses. About 40 out of 1,000 residents experience either of these. The crime rate in Durban is 89.6 per 1,000 residents, according to the ONS while the police force says it is 88 per 1,000 residents.
9. Northumbria
Northumbria is the next policing areas on our list. The early medieval Anglo-Saxon kingdom which is in what is now Northern England derives its name from an Old English word meaning “the people or province north of the Humber.” This differentiates the area from the home of the people south of the Humber Estuary. As far as crime is concerned, Northumberland is currently among the most dangerous in the record of the ONS. The overall crime rate in Northumberland in the year leading to June 2021 was 89.7 crimes per 1,000 people. The commonest crimes in the area during the period were violence and sexual offenses. More than 31 out of 1,000 residents experienced either of these during this time.
8. Kent
Kent is in South East England where it borders Greater London to the northwest while sharing its western border with Surrey, the southwestern border with East Sussex, and the northern border across the estuary of the River Thames with Essex. Maidstone is the county town of this one of the 10 most dangerous areas for crime in England. The crime rate during the year ending June 2021 in Kent was 91.4 per 1,000 residents. Another source while naming Kent as one of the top 10 most dangerous counties puts the overall crime rate there in 2021 as 87 crimes per 1,000 people. Violence and sexual offenses which were the most common crimes there happened to roughly every 44 out of 1,000 residents then.
7. Humberside
Humberside does not escape our attention here. The former non-metropolitan and ceremonial county in Northern England was composed of lands from the Humber Estuary on either side as a county. A national crime police report for June 2022 reveals that the Humberside Police received reports that were 5.2 percent more than the previous years. In our main source in this video, Humberside had an overall crime rate of 95.2 per 1,000 residents that year. Note also, that the area was one of the most dangerous for knife crime in 2021 and the situation hasn’t changed as of the time of this production.
6. South Yorkshire
This ceremonial and metropolitan county is in the area known as Yorkshire and Humber Region. It is one of the places discussed in our video mentioned with a 2021 knife crime rate of 43 offenses per 100,000 residents. In this video about the crime rate within the year ending June 2021, this county recorded 96 crimes per 1,000 residents. Another source listing South Yorkshire among the 5 most dangerous counties in the UK says the overall crime rate in the county in 2021 was 94 crimes per 1,000 people adding that the most common crimes which were violence and sexual offenses happened to about 38 out of 1,000 residents.

Top 10 PRETTIEST Towns in BERKSHIRE

What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of Berkshire? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.

As a disclaimer, this list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.

10 Ugliest Towns in the UK

What are the ugliest towns in the United Kingdom? The United Kingdom, viewed as a whole country, has been blessed with the best of architecture. Historically speaking, the country’s leading role in the industrial revolution is still being reflected everywhere you go. The cities’ and towns’ centers are generally beautiful. Those structural remnants of our architectural heritage are still very feasible and are things to be proud of. But it's not every part of the country that has been so lucky. There are a good number of towns that could do better with a bit of architectural loving care (ALC). These places have unattractive architecture and unappealing town centers. Let me now show you some of those towns. This video is about the 10 ugliest towns in the UK.
10. Fort William, Scotland
Let’s begin our list in Scotland. We go straight to Fort William, a Scottish Highlands town in Lochaber located on Loch Linnhe on the eastern shore. This town is the second largest of all the settlements in the Highland council area and even in the whole of the Scottish Highlands.
Fort William is one of the 10 ugliest towns in the UK and it's close to the ugliest in Scotland. You may initially get carried away by pictures of residential areas with the landscape that are well grassed and covered with trees. However, the town center is quite ugly. No wonder the town has been described as one of the depressing towns in the UK and ghost towns in Scotland.
9. Bracknell, England
The first town in England among the 10 ugliest towns in the UK that we’re considering is Bracknell. This town in Berkshire, which is also a civil parish, is large. It is the administrative center of the Borough of Bracknell Forest.
A popular online survey once ranked the town lying 18 kilometers to the east of Reading, 14 kilometers south of Maidenhead, 16 kilometers southwest of Windsor, and 40 kilometers west of central London as one of the ugliest town centers in the UK. Its homes are haphazardly built, and driveways aren’t easy to navigate. Dozens of shops had closed in the northern area of the town and a demolition exercise was being planned to regenerate the town.
8. Rhyl, Wales
Now to Wales: and the first Welsh town on our list is Rhyl generally seen as a seaside result for the reasons unclear. This community in the county of Denbighshire that lies within Flintshire is today one of the ugliest towns in the United Kingdom. Rhyl is one of the most deprived places in Wales and in the entire UK. How, then, do you expect such a town to be beautiful as a whole? In a town where some 56 percent of the working-age people live on benefits, who would work towards beautifying the town? That’s why it can’t be far from the truth when a reviewer described the town as “the most disgusting seaside resort on Earth.”
7. Cumbernauld, Scotland
Let’s go back to Scotland where we find Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire. This tenth most populous locality in Scotland is also the most populated town in North Lanarkshire. Located in the center of Scotland’s Central Belt, Cumbernauld sitting between east and west on the Scottish watershed is one of the ugliest towns in the UK as it is between the Forth and the Clyde.
All attention was drawn to this town by the event organized by architecture magazine Urban Realm during which local authorities in the UK were castigated for their negligence and incompetence in beautifying their towns with attractive architecture. The town is so ugly to have deserved the nickname the ‘Kabul of the North.’

Places to see in ( Maidenhead - UK )

Places to see in ( Maidenhead - UK )

Maidenhead is a large town in the county of Berkshire, England. Maidenhead lies south-west of the River Thames, but at Maidenhead, the river runs north-south and so the town is on its west bank.

The Maidenhead urban area includes urban and suburban regions within the bounds of the town, called Maidenhead Court, North Town, Furze Platt (which in 2012 gained a conservation area), Pinkneys Green, Highway, Tittle Row, Boyn Hill, Fishery and Bray Wick; as well as built-up areas in surrounding civil parishes: Cox Green and Altwood in Cox Green parish, Woodlands Park in White Waltham parish, and part of Bray Wick in Bray parish. Bray village is linked to Maidenhead by the exclusive Fishery Estate which lies on the banks of the Thames. To the east, on the opposite side of the river from Maidenhead, is the large village of Taplow in Buckinghamshire which almost adjoins the suburban village of Burnham, Buckinghamshire, which is in itself part of the urban area of the large, industrial town of Slough.

Maidenhead clock tower was built for Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee and is located outside the railway station. Maidenhead Bridge was built in 1777. It takes the A4 over the Thames to join Maidenhead to Taplow. All Saints' Church, Boyne Hill was completed in 1857 is one of the finest examples of the early work of the architect G. E. Street. The site is also regarded by many as the premier architectural site in the town. The church, consecrated on 2 December 1857 by Bishop Samuel Wilberforce, became the first ecclesiastical parish in the Borough of Maidenhead. Boulter's Lock is a lock on the river Thames on the east side of Maidenhead. It adjoins Ray Mill Island.

The (Brunel-built) Great Western Main Line passes through the town, calling at Maidenhead railway station and offering frequent, direct services to London, Reading, Newbury and Oxford. Additionally, there are less frequent direct services to Banbury, Hereford, Worcester and Great Malvern. It passes over Brunel's Maidenhead Railway Bridge (known locally as the Sounding Arch), famous for its flat brick arches.

The A4 runs through the town and crosses the Thames over Maidenhead Bridge. The town lies adjacent to junction 8/9 on the M4 motorway and is accessed via the A404(M) and A308(M). The A308(M), A404(M) and A404 form the Marlow and Maidenhead bypass which also acts as an important link between the M4, to the south of the town, and M40 at High Wycombe.

( Maidenhead - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Maidenhead . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Maidenhead - UK

Hope this video can bring you a moment of Inner Peace... Shot in 4K with DJI Mavic Air 2

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Maidenhead is part of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. The town centre has a range of over 300 shops including The Nicholsons Shopping Centre which offers lots of choice under one roof. Maidenhead Heritage Centre is a must with regular exhibitions and talks on the towns past and for arts and culture visit the Norden Farn Centre for the Arts just a 5 minute drive away from the town centre. Just down the road is one of Britain's culinary capitals, the village of Bray. This village contains the Roux Brothers' Waterside Inn as well as Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck which has held the accolade 'best restaurant in the world' and Giancarlo Caldesi's Caldesi in Campagna.

Maidenhead's name stems from the riverside area where the first New wharf or Maiden Hythe was built, as early as Saxon times. In the year 870, an army of Danes invaded the kingdom of Wessex. They disembarked from their longboats by the wharf and ferry crossing at Maidenhead and fought their way overland to Reading where they set up camp and made it their regional power base.

The area of the present town centre was originally a small Anglo-Saxon town known as South Ellington. The town would have likely developed on the Camlet Way on the site of Alaunodunum as the Bath Road was not re-routed until the 13th century.

It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 and is said to have served either as a burial ground or as a kind of astronomy site.

9. Snowdonia
Snowdonia is the third largest national park in the UK that you must visit. There's simply no other way to describe the stunning 360-degree views of the mountains, valleys, and coastline below. Located on the coast of Wales, Snowdonia is home to Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales and England, and the largest lake in Wales.

8. Roman-Era Bath
Although Bath is one of the smaller cities in the UK, it more than makes up for its small size with a variety of things to see and do. Named after its famous Roman baths, this beautiful city has been attracting visitors to its healing waters for more than 2,000 years.

7. Lake District
Tourists from across the globe come to visit this mountainous region in North West England because of its awesome scenery, interesting wildlife, and culture. Also known as Lakeland or the Lakes, Lake District is also well-known for its association with Lake Poets including William Wordsworth. It was the year 1951 when the Lake District National Park was established then in 2017, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

6. Medieval York
The medieval city of York, the ecclesiastical capital of the Church of England, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern England and boasts one of the most magnificent cathedrals in the country. York Minster, the largest medieval church in the UK, traces its roots back to the spread of Christianity in the 3rd century but was built almost 1,000 years later.

5. Brighton
Next on our list is a seaside resort called Brighton, which is located in the city of Brighton and Hove. Located 76 kilometers south of London, Brighton is known for its diverse communities, quirky shopping areas, and beautiful scenery. Maidenhead Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Berkshire, and around 25 miles west of central London, is the town of Maidenhead.

Geographically Maidenhead lies just west of the River Thames at a bend where it runs from north to south. In the 9th century the Vikings disembarked from their longboats at Maidenhead on their way to Reading, which for a while became their operational base in the south of England, or Wessex as it was then.

In the 13th century a wooden bridge was constructed across the river to replace a previous ferry service. At the time the area was a small hamlet known as South Ellington. It was later renamed 'Maidenhyth' around 1296. The bridge led to its development as a staging post on the road from London to Bristol, i.e. a resting stop for horse-drawn carriages.

A town charter was granted to Maidenhead in 1582 by Elizabeth I. A century later, in 1688, Maidenhead Bridge was the site of a skirmish between James II and William of Orange during the Glorious Revolution. The town, still loyal to King James, broke the bridge to prevent William from crossing. However, William's army was able to march around it in a matter of days. James's troops ended up retreating back to London. William of Orange became King William III in what was one of the most casualty-light coups in history.

The present-day bridge across the Thames to the east of Maidenhead town centre was built between 1772 and 1777. This forms part of Bath Road, which in turn is part of the A4 which runs from London to Bristol.

Maidenhead first received a railway connection in 1871 courtesy of Great Western Railway. To this day it serves as a key commuter link into London on the Great Western Main Line which reaches Paddington Station in under an hour. TFL Rail also operate a like-for-like service on the same tracks as a precursor to Crossrail, which is under construction at the time of writing.

Maidenhead claims the honour of having the oldest senior ground in football continuously used by the same club. York Road was opened in 1871, and has been home to Maidenhead United Football Club ever since. At the time of writing they are in the National League (fifth tier) and their chairman is Peter Griffin. I kid you not.
