The region along the Moselle offers fun for the whole family: romantic wine villages and mighty knight's castles, hiking trails with breathtaking views and adrenaline rush in the climbing forest, Segway tours through vineyards and tours through underground wine labyrinths. Tamina Kallert travels down the river from Bernkastel-Kues to Koblenz. Always in view: millions of vines on steep slate slopes to the right and left of the Moselle.
The restaurateur Oliver Stevens at the end of our film unfortunately passed away in April 2020.
Unfortunately, there are mistakes in the overlays: At 5:11 it's not Bernkastel-Kues, but Pünderich, and at 5:14 Beilstein.

Cochem, Germany - Altstadt (old town) & Moselle River Promenade
Our day trip to picturesque and charming Cochem, Germany. Located on the Moselle (aka Mosel) River, the town is dominated by the magnificent castle overlooking it: Reichsburg Castle, which has been in written existence since about the year 1050.
We strolled the Moselle Promenade area as well as the historic old town area. As always, Ed does the narration you hear, while I did the majority of the still photography and then edited everything for upload to You Tube.

Das nur über gut 100 Einwohner zählende Beilstein gehört zu den beliebtesten Ausflugszielen an der Mosel und wird auch als das Miniatur-Rothenburg oder auch als das Dornröschen der Mosel bezeichnet. Beilstein lebte jahrhundertelang nur vom Weinbau.
Heute ist der Tourismus die größte Einnahmequelle. Beilstein bietet all das, was der Moseltourist sucht: ein historisches Ambiente mit vielen kleinen verwinkelten Gassen, die sich zur Klosterkirche hochschlängeln und viele Lokale, die den Moselwein und Köstlichkeiten wie Flammkuchen oder Schnitzel servieren.
Hoch über der Gemeinde sind die Ruinen der Burg Metternich nach etwa 10 Minuten Gehweg zu erreichen. Sie liegt auf einem nach drei Seiten steil abfallenden Bergsporn und wurde 1268 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Zerstört wurde die Festung 1689 von französischen Truppen. Heute ist dort ein beliebtes Ausflugslokal, von dem man einen weiten Panoramablick auf das Moseltal hat.

Moselkern, Germany - Moselle River small-town charm, with Farmers & Handicrafts Market
We had just spent a half-day touring the magnificent Burg Eltz; we decided to take the scenic walk back down into the valley below. Though we tried to get there in time for the next train back to Koblenz, we missed by about 5 minutes.
It gave us ample time to explore the hidden charms of this quaint little village/town along the Moselle River. One of the delightful surprises was stumbling upon an annual festival held here. The festival is called Bauern und Handwerkermarkt (Farmers & Handicrafts Market). Handicrafts and other farm-related displays, such as new tractors, etc. We had a nice local cake and coffee, then continued on with touring the rest of this charming place. It's funny how sometimes you find yourself having unexpected fun in unexpected places. Moselkern is definitely a little gem in the Moselle River Valley.
