One of the best things about traveling is learning about places that you had never heard of and/or never thought to visit. For us, that was Northern Georgia! Our original itinerary (in quotes because our plans change almost daily) never included spending time in this part of Georgia, but from the second we learned how much natural beauty was in the Northern part of the state, we knew we had to go!
We spent one day hiking, visiting waterfalls, transporting to Germany in Helen, eating fudge, riding the Georgia Mountain Coaster, and having SO much fun! This area of the US is truly an underrated gem (we couldn't believe we were in Georgia) and we're so to continue to find more unexpected gems around the US this year.

I traveled to every single city and town of all sizes in the state of Georgia. I filmed the city square of every single one and put it in this compilation video. I found 373 city squares total.
Keep in mind, many towns or cities in Georgia don’t have a square. So to be clear, this a simply a compilation video of only the square of every city that has one. There are also many larger cities that doesn’t have a prominent city center such as holly springs, John’s creek, Warner bros, etc.
Other terms of city square are downtown, city center, or town square. Many smaller towns only have a post office or another government building which wasn’t necessarily enough to consider it a town square.

Panther Creek Falls | Top 10 Georgia Hikes | Best Camping Spots In Georgia
Panther Creek Falls is one of North Georgia's most popular waterfall trails and for good reason. It is a little over 7 miles hike through beautiful, green mountain forest to an astounding waterfall with a sandy beach area to cool off in on those hot summer days. It is one of the best hikes in Georgia and it is a great introduction to backpacking trail. There are multiple great primitive campsites along the trail. If you are looking for something to do in North Georgia Panther Creek Falls is a great trail with a beautiful waterfall. Definitely worth checking out!

Stone Mountain GA - Life and History of the Town
The town is named for Stone Mountain, the largest exposed granite dome in North America. Stone Mountain harbors plant and animal life found no other place in the world. It is also the site of a famous giant carving commemorating the military leaders of the Confederacy as well as a state park and museum, including a steam railroad.
City Hall
The historic train depot is home to the former City Hall and the Police Department. The South wing of the depot was constructed in 1856. The north wing was constructed in 1914. It is the oldest structure that was burned by General Sherman durning the Civil War that is still in use today.
HISTORY
In 1822 the area that now makes up the City of Stone Mountain was made a part of the newly formed DeKalb County. A post office was created in 1834 on the old Augusta Road, and Andrew Johnson built a hotel along the road in 1836. At around the same time, Aaron Cloud built an observation tower at the summit of the mountain. Visitors to the mountain would travel to the area by rail and road, and then walk up the 1.1 mile mountaintop trail to the top, where Cloud also had a restaurant and club.
By 1839 a general store was added and a village was established under the name New Gibraltar. The name was officially changed to Stone Mountain by the Georgia legislature in 1847. During the Civil War, Stone Mountain village was destroyed by men under the command of General John McPherson on July 19, 1864.
