10 Things to do in Hvar, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:

We have finally made it to one of my dream destinations. We're in Hvar, Croatia so and oh my it is beautiful. Today we have blue skies so we're just going to run around like crazy to show you guys Hvar.

As you probably already know, we never start sightseeing without a good meal, so the first item on our list was to find some breakfast. This proved to be a little tricky considering we were visiting during low season, but after a few false starts we settled down at BB Club for shakshuka, omelettes, nutella crepes and cappuccinos.

With bellies full, we were ready explore and our eyes were set on the fortress, which is the focal point when you gaze up from the Old Town.

Reaching the fortress means walking straight uphill, but there are a few scenic stops along the way, including a beautiful park, a seemingly abandoned church, and plenty of lookouts where you can admire the town and the harbour.

After visiting the fort, we came back to the Old Town and decided to go on a little walk along the waterfront. We hadn’t packed any bathing suits and it was too late in the season to go for a swim, but Audrey was set on testing out the turquoise waters.

Continuing our wander through Hvar Town without a particular place or direction in mind, we then came across a medieval Venetian bell tower that we had noticed peeking through the buildings. The bell tower is part of the Ruins of the Dominican Monastery and St. Mark's Church, and while the structure is closed off, it’s still a cool landmark to visit.

We went to KOGO which is located in the main square just footsteps from St. Stephen’s Cathedral. They specialize in pizzas and pastas, and everything was so tasty!

Lastly, to finish up our 1-day tour of Hvar Town, we walked back to the marina, this time heading left in the direction of the Franciscan Monastery, where we were treated to a magical sunset complete with live music.

This is part of our Travel in Croatia video series showcasing Croatian food, Croatian culture and Croatian cuisine.

Peschici, Gargano - Puglia, Italy (4K)

If you are planning to visit Gargano, in Puglia - Italy, don’t miss the opportunity to visit Peschici, a fascinating village upon the sea.

Here some suggestions on FOOD and ACCOMMODATIONS:
- Where to have a MEAL: Ristorante Osteria Pane e Vino SS 87,5, Peschici FG, +39 0884 963077
- ACCOMMODATIONS: B&B Peschici 4 Stagioni, center of Peschici, +39 3711097552, +39 3935815840
Peschici is a small town on the top of a cliff-promontory that rises to more than 100 meters above the Adriatic Sea, overlooking the bay below. It is both a seaside resort town and a place of great historical interest.
For those who love the sea, Peschici has famous beaches, with the “fine sand” to which the small medieval town owes its name. Elsewhere in and around the town there is also much to discover.

A visit to Peschici can start in the picturesque old town, characterized by whitewashed houses that slope down towards the sea and with narrow streets reminiscent of Arab cities.
Peschici Castle dates from 970 AD when the Byzantines built a series of fortifications, which were later increased by the Normans. In 1239 the castle was badly damaged after a siege by the Venetian allies of the pope against Frederick II, who rebuilt it. In the Spanish era the castle formed one of the most important defences against the Turks in Apulia.
The castle was restored again in the 18th century by E. Pinto, Prince of Ischitella. Today tourists can visit the basement - inside you can see a large pit, which was probably used for storage of wheat, stored here in case of siege.

The local cuisine is typically Mediterranean with fresh handmade pasta, fresh fish, vegetables, homemade sauces, oil and vinegar products. Among the local dishes are the stuffed eggplant with homemade orecchiette and the spaghetti sauce of cuttlefish and grilled mullet. Another 'must try' at Peschici are the cakes made from almond paste typical of the Gargano.

The Heel of Italy

(Puglia) is region that stretches at the heel of Italian boot in south-eastern Italy. It is known as the Kingdom of drought and stones. Here you will find wild, untouched nature and beautiful mountains with many gorges and caves. A major tourist attractions are unique architecture structures called trulli mostly concentrated around a town of Alberobello.
Apulia with its numerous cultural and historical monuments and its extraordinary landscape is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy. Picturesque coast of Apulia expands in the length of over 800 km. Puglia offers flat sandy beaches but also steep rocky coast. Its cultural heritage is very diverse.
Sunny climate and excellent beaches with jagged rocks, or the historical town of Gallipoli with its clean environment attracts thousands of tourists each year. If you go to the tip of the Italian boot, you will get to Grotta Zinsulusa, where you can also visit the nearby Blue Grotto. Otranto is another beautiful city of this area. Cathedral of Santa Maria della Annunziata boasts the largest floor covered with figural mosaics in Europe.
In this region it is necessary to visit its capital city -- Lecce, often called as the Florence of the South or Florence of the Baroque. Brindisi, located on the Adriatic coast, is since the 3rd century BC, the main port and the gateway to Greece, Turkey and Albania. Further along the Adriatic coast, lies the city of Bari with shopping district Esperanto. Apulia was many times in its history conquered by foreign rulers and offers to its visitors lots of sights of different cultures.
Apulia represented a wide-open gateway to the East in the past. It has long been under the influence of the Greeks and thus is characterized by impressive architecture. Apulia is also very fertile land and is known for producing very high quality wine and olive oil.
Gargano Peninsula, which is also located in this region, is a high rocky promontory into the Adriatic Sea, with preserved pristine landscapes, countless picturesque bays and cliffs. In the north there are two large lagoons -- Lesina and Varano and along the coast are popular resort of Puglia -- Vieste, Peschici, Rodi Garganico, San Menaio, Mattinata, with fabulously white houses, narrow streets and typical restaurants. Central region boasts special houses called trulli, which are traditional white buildings with conical roofs, located in areas of Alberobello and Locorotondo.

Chianni Italy | Italian Village life | Ikea deliveries and assembly (our couch) | Visit Lajatico

BUONGIORNO friends and viewers!

Welcome back to Tales from Tuscany!
We are Marisa and David, Australian expats now living part-time in Chianni Tuscany.
During the Global Pandemic, we decided to buy our Italian dream home, sight unseen and with no prior knowledge of the area.
This is our journey!

Seasonal greetings to all our beautiful viewers.

We hope that you all had the most amazing Christmas or if you don't celebrate Christmas like we do, then we send our very best seasonal wishes to you all!

This week in Tales from Tuscany, we are definitely staying closer to home in Chianni, with loads of furniture arriving at the house, new objects being paced and put together and a real feeling of becoming a home starting to happen! It makes us so happy!
THANK YOU IKEA for saving us :D

You'll experience some typical village life with us ...eating out in Chianni, evening strolls and we also take an afternoon off from decorating to discover the incredibly charming village of Lajatico (birthplace of Andrea Bocelli and home to his yearly outdoor concerts).

Come join us on our little journey...we don't you'll be disappointed!

In the meantime, David and I would love to thank you all for your continual support and wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR full of love, laughter, great health, peace, serenity and may all your 2023 dreams come true!

Love and hugs!
Baci ed abbracci :D
