On my way from Almaty to Astana I stopped for one night in Balqash. It's a small quite city. I guess in summer it would be great to swim there. In September it was already too cold to swim.
The special thing about this lake is that one side has saltwater and the other side has freshwater.
In the evening I met the guys and we had a lot of fun with them :D

3 месяца назад я с семьёй переехал в Кыргызстан, в город Каракол (Иссык-Кульская область).
Я ожидал, что здесь будет красивая природа, но не ожидал, что настолько! Недалеко от города Каракола и вилеколепные горы Тянь-Шаня, и уникальное озеро Иссык-Куль!

Первая попытка снять выпуск про Заповедный Кыргызстан, к сожалению, оказалась неудачной: я утопил дрон в горной реке Каракол и вынужден был прервать съёмки похода на озеро Ала-Куль.

Этот большой выпуск – вторая попытка снять видео про Кыргызстан. И, несмотря не технические сбои во время съёмок и отсутствие дрона, всё получилось!????

????⛰????В этом выпуске я отправился в небольшое, но живописное ущелье Кашка-Суу. Оно расположено в зоне горного хребта Тескей-Ала-Тоо (Терскей-Ала-Тоо) Тянь-Шаньских гор, на территории природного парка Каракол в заповедной зоне. А, значит, вы познакомитесь с природой Кыргызстана и наверняка влюбитесь в горы Кыргызстана. После его просмотра вы точно захотите посетить этот чудесный уголок Земли, настоящий заповедник! Это был отличный двухдневный поход в горы: и треккинг, и хайкинг, и даже прекраснейшее звёздное небо мне удалось заснять

Ущелье Кашка-Суу находится вблизи города Каракола (Иссык-Кульская область). Сейчас мы снимаем квартиру не в самом хорошем месте города, вблизи дороги, а хотели бы долгосрочно арендовать домик со своим двором, хорошим ремонтом и всеми удобствам. The North Kazakhstan Oblast occupies only 3.6% of the territory of Kazakhstan, but despite this, it is incredibly beautiful and rich in natural resources. Amazing land of wild nature. Hundreds of lakes like precious stones settled among green wide-open spaces. There are more than two thousand of them here: from small reservoirs to the lakes well-known throughout the country and different in composition – fresh and salty. Many of the lakes are known for their healing waters with a high content of mineral salts and microelements, as well as mud-cure resorts.

Spending a day with a Kazakh family in rural Xinjiang
This video is about the second half of my 7th day traveling on the Silk Road in China.
I headed to the grasslands to meet a Kazakh family I had been introducd to the evening before.
While at the grasslands I learned about life on the grasslands, how life has changed, the animals living in the area and the food they eat.

Nur-Sultan Astana City Tour Kazakhstan. Abu Dhabi Plaza Astana is a multifunctional complex consisting of several buildings located in the capital of Kazakhstan - the city of Nur Sultan. Construction began in November 2010. Kazakhstan is the world’s ninth-biggest country is the most economically advanced of the ‘stans’, thanks to its abundant reserves of oil and most other valuable minerals. This means generally better standards of accommodation, restaurants and transport than elsewhere in Central Asia. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the depressed agricultural town of Tselinograd was completely revamped and renamed Astana when President Nazarbayev unexpectedly named it Kazakhstan’s future capital in 1994. The transformation from small town to world-class capital has continued since Astana officially took on the job title in late 1997 and was renamed from Akmola to Astana in 1998. This ever-growing city – host to the Expo 2017 world fair – offers a glimpse into a town of tomorrow. Nur-Sultan is the capital of Kazakhstan. Astana is its previous name. It has been renamed several times. Previous names include Tselinograd, Akmola, Astana, and Nur-Sultan. My Shymkent 2020 - The Biggest Monument In Kazakhstan!
In this new series, I show you different parts of Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
In episode 5, I show you the Baidebek monument which is the biggest monument in Kazakhstan. From the monument, we head down the steps towards the big square with a detour in the beautiful park.
Episode 13 - Kazakhstan - Shymkent, Turkistan / 365 days off
A SMALL VISIT TO THE COUNTRY SIDE OF KAZAKHSTAN (SHYMKENT, TURKESTAN AND AKSU-ZHABAGLY)
For the first time in this trip, we used the train. Probably the more convenient way to travel in Kazakhstan, since there is a huge distance between cities. We embarked at 21:42 and fell asleep at 23:00. We got waked up only three times during the night… when the electricity got turned on at around midnight, when the window suddenly opened letting cold air in at around 3:00am and when our cabin neighbours had smelly chicken and potatoes for breakfast early in the morning.
We got off the train in the small village of Tyulkubas heading to Zhabagly. We felt like being on the set of a Kazakh postcard surrounded by the steppes, mountains landscapes and children in Kazakh outfit riding donkeys bringing back the flock to the village. After one day hike in the national reserve (see our latest newsletter), we took a minivan to Shymkent.
It is now full summer in this part of the country. We were suffering the heat (35 to 40 degrees Celsius). Nevertheless, we managed to visit some parks and some sights here between stops in air conditioned cafes and restaurants. Although Shymkent is not very popular among the guidebooks (lonely planet and petit futé), we didn’t regret stopping here for three days.
WE DID SPECIFICALLY ENJOY
The Shymkent bazar, the perfect mix between order and disorder.
The Aksu-Zhabagly natural reserve.
Taking the night train (2 times 13 hours) and getting to speak with locals.
All the smiling Kazakh children we met!
ACCOMMODATIONS
Almaty: Sky hostel located on the last floor of a building, the hostel is calm, clean and staff is very friendly.
Zhabagly: Zhenja and Lyuda’s boarding house. A homestay near the reserve that was nice until we found out that we paid three times the regular price.
Shymkent: Sary Arka Hotel. A rather okay hotel for the low price they ask.
RESTAURANTS
The Istanbul restaurant in Shymkent, it reminded us of our good time in Turkey.
The Karavan restaurant in Ken Baba park, Shymkent, the best shashlyk (skewers) in town.
BEST KEPT SECRET TIP
While in Shymkent, it is rather recommended to visit Turkistan. Turkistan is well known for its beautiful mausoleum. We didn’t know how to get to Turkistan and searched for travel agent to book a tour. After a little browsing, the tours proposed by the tour operators were quite expensive as about 100 dollars per person or more. There is very little information on the web on how to reach Turkistan on your own. We are glad to share our plan for about 20 dollars for two, including lunch.
First of all, you need to reach the “SAMAL” (Самал in Russian) bus station. This can be done using bus line 69 from Shymkent famous Tauke Khan avenue (bus stops on same side of the road and close to Ken Baba park and Mega Mall). If you want to be sure you’re heading in the right direction, ask the driver or the controller of the bus for “Avtovoksal Samal?” and jump in it. At Samal station, go down the little road on your right hand side and ask for the Turkistan mashrutkas. The ride from Shymkent city center takes approx. 25-30 min.
Better to be there just before 9:00 and you’ll hardly wait more than 10 minutes before you’ll be on the road. The ride takes about 1:45 min. The driver will probably drop you off close to the mausoleum. Allow about 1,5h to visit all the rooms and walk on the citadel. Then have lunch in one of the cafes close by. When it is time to go back to Shymkent, take minibus 2 or 5 on Khozanov road to “Avtovoksal” again. Once at the bus station, ask for the next mashrutka to Shymkent (most probably men will ask your destination). Fairly easy don’t you think?
Cost breakdown
Bus in Shymkent (line 69 back and forth) 70x2x2 = 280 Tenge
Mashrutka from Shymkent to Turkistan and back 800x2x2 = 3200 Tenge
Lunch in Turkistan, shashlyk, salad, bread and water = 2000 Tenge
Turkistan Mini bus nr. 2 or 5 to the Mashrutka Bus station 40×2 = 80
Total 5560 Tenge! (about 16 dollars)
