A very unusual town in eastern Germany : Leisnig
Leisnig is an unusually attractive town in eastern Germany, well off the tourist route, 50km south of Leipzig. I came here because I am preparing materials on the German resistance to the National Socialist regime and wanted to film the birthplace of Friedrich Olbricht. As it turned out, the film I made of Olbricht's home, using the Filmic Pro software was corrupted so I will have to return but nonetheless I don't regard the time as wasted as it was a very nice place to visit.
The layout of this town in eastern Germany is more Italian than German being located at the top of a hill overlooking the Mulde river. There is a huge market square - not at all a German characteristic. There is also a castle which dominates the highest point with a museum that has been there since 1890.
For those seeking something well off the beaten track, this is worth visiting!

Exploration of Burg Breuberg
Burg Breuberg, located in the southeast of Hesse, Germany, was built in the early 13th century and is a well-preserved medieval hill castle.

If you come off the motorway in Germany you can find some wonderful places, this is one of them. A village lost in the countryside and hard to find hosted me for a wonderful afternoon and I was able to profit from a very nice walk and bicycle ride.
This film also shows some wonderful views of the Mulde river. The Mulde is a left tributary of the Elbe and 124 km in length. The river is formed by the confluence, near Colditz, of the Zwickauer Mulde (running through Zwickau) and the Freiberger Mulde (with Freiberg on its banks), both rising from the Ore Mountains. From here the river runs northwards through Saxony (Grimma, Wurzen, Eilenburg, Bad Düben) and Saxony-Anhalt (Jeßnitz and Dessau, the old capital of Anhalt). The Mulde flows in to the Elbe 3 km north of Dessau.
In August 2002 a flood caused severe damage, that even endangered the UNESCO World Heritage Site Dessau-Wörlitzer Gartenreich and the city Dessau. Especially the cities of Döbeln and Grimma suffered from the damages of the flood. You can see my video from Grimma also on the tenth anniversary of this flood.
The name Mulde could be derived from Old German (possibly Gothic) Mulda meaning dust and a cognate of English mould). But more possibly it is related to the German mahlen which means to mill. Therefore, Mulde probably means the milling river and corresponds to the great number of water mills driven by the river in former times. Nowadays, there are hydroelectric power stations in use - as well as a very small waterwheel you can see in this film.

A brief history and tour of Colditz Castle in the state of Saxony, Germany. This 16th century castle was notorious as Oflag IV-C, a German prison camp for Allied officer POWs during World War II. Many escape attempts were made, and prisoners sewed and dyed German uniforms to disguise their escapes. Most famous of all was the 2-man glider prisoners built in the attic to attempt to fly off the roof to freedom.

Meissen (Meißen) / Germany is a small northwest of Dresden in the state of Saxony. Meissen is famous as the home of Meissen porcelain. The of Meissen proximity to Dresden - around 25km or 30 minutes by train - makes it ideal for a day trip when traveling in the area.
We start our 1 hour walking tour of Meissen at the market square. There we see the the Gothic Meissen Cathedral and the Meissen Town Hall.
On this evening we walk all around the old town, see the Elbe river and even head out of the town center to judge the size a bit better. Back in the town we see a bit the Albrechtsburg which is Late Gothic and early Renaissance castle (1471-1495).
At last we explore some more quiet streets before we end our Meissen walking tour near the train station.

Über dem Lauterachtal thront seit dem 10. Jhd. die Burganlage von Kastl. 1098 wurde beschlossen, die Burg in ein Kloster umzuwandeln.
1103 erfolgte die Gründung und 1129 wurden der Chor und die Egidiuskapelle geweiht. Die Bauarbeiten für die Klosterkirche wurden Ende des 12. Jhds. beendet. Durch ständige Umbauten und Erweiterungen erhielt die Kirche ihr heutiges Erscheinungsbild. 1782 ging sie in den Besitz der Malteser über.
Die Basilika wird seit dem Jahr 1808 als Pfarrkirche genutzt. Ein spätgotisches Hauptportal, ein vierjochiges Tonnengewölbe, der Stützenwechsel von Säulen und Pfeilern im Hauptschiff, die gotische Steintumba in der Vorhalle, was einst das Grab der verstorbenen Prinzessin Anna war, machen die Kirche zu einem echten Schmuckstück.
Prinzessin Anna war die Tochter König Ludwigs des Bayern und verstarb 1319. Die Mumie des eineinhalb Jahre alten „Kastler Kindes“ wurde bis Ende 2013 konserviert und kann wieder besichtigt werden. Außerdem birgt die Vorkirche den Sarkophag des Feldherrn Schweppermann.

Meissen (in German orthography: Meißen) is a town of approximately 30,000 about 25 km (16 mi) northwest of Dresden on both banks of the Elbe river in the Free State of Saxony, in eastern Germany. Meissen is the home of Meissen porcelain, the Albrechtsburg castle, the Gothic Meissen Cathedral and the Meissen Frauenkirche. The Grosse Kreisstadt is the capital of the Meissen district.
Meissen, Meissen porcelain, is famous for the manufacture of porcelain, based on extensive local deposits of china clay (kaolin) and potter's clay (potter's earth). Meissen porcelain was the first high quality porcelain to be produced outside of the Orient.
The first European porcelain was manufactured in Meissen in 1710, when the Royal Porcelain Factory was opened in the Albrechtsburg. In 1861, it was moved to the Triebisch river valley of Meissen, where the porcelain factory can still be found today. Along with porcelain, other ceramics are also manufactured.
The Albrechtsburg, the former residence of the House of Wettin, is regarded as being the first castle to be used as a royal residence in the German-speaking world.[citation needed] Built between 1472 and 1525, it is a fine example of late Gothic style. It was redecorated in the 19th century with a range of murals depicting Saxon history. Today the castle is a museum. Nearby is the 13th-century Gothic Meissen Cathedral (Meißner Dom), whose chapel is one of the most famous burial places of the Wettin family. The hill on which the castle and the cathedral are built offers a view over the roofs of the old town.

Cinematic trip to Castle Mildenstein (filmed with iPhone 7)
Last weekend I´ve went to Leisnig in saxony/germany. It was a beautiful day but I didn't´t had my camera by me. So I chosed to film with my iPhone 7 (with no app, only with the standard settings).
I´m real impressed by the quality of the footage. The downsides (aliasing,moire,noise) of using this setup is clearly visible but for a smartphone video ok.
