10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

10 Most Miserable Towns in the UK

What are the most miserable towns in the United Kingdom? Many of the towns in the United Kingdom are not doing too badly in terms of basic amenities. The quality of life in those towns is higher even than in places recognized as cities in other countries. Still, it can’t be said that all those towns are having it equally. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

Places to see in ( Dunstable - UK )

Places to see in ( Dunstable - UK )

Dunstable is a market town and civil parish located in Bedfordshire, England. Dunstable lies on the eastward tail spurs of the Chiltern Hills, 30 miles north of London. These geographical features form several steep chalk escarpments most noticeable when approaching Dunstable from the north. Dunstable is the largest settlement in Central Bedfordshire and third largest in Bedfordshire behind Luton and Bedford.

Dunstable's first railway opened in 1848. It was a branch joining the West Coast Main Line at Leighton Buzzard. A second line linking Dunstable with Hatfield via Luton opened in 1858. Passenger services to Dunstable were withdrawn in 1965, but the line between Dunstable and Luton.

Shops were concentrated along High Street North/South (Watling Street) and in 1966 the Quadrant Shopping Centre opened. By the 1980s, Dunstable town centre was a successful shopping centre featuring major retailers including Sainsbury's, Tesco, Waitrose, Bejam/Iceland, Boots, Halfords, Co-op department store, Argos, Woolworths, Burton and many independent specialist shops including Moore's of Dunstable. These attracted shoppers from outlying villages resulting in a thriving retail town centre larger than would be supportable by Dunstable residents alone. So much so that in 1985 the Eleanor's Cross retail area was developed to cater mainly for smaller shops.

The A5 trunk road lies at the heart of Dunstable's transport infrastructure, directing movement north and south. This movement is additionally complemented by the M1 motorway which is located east of the town in Luton. Dunstable is served by two main operators, Arriva and Centrebus. Arriva runs the interurban services to Luton (direct and via Houghton Regis), Leighton Buzzard and Aylesbury, but other routes have been steadily taken over from Arriva by Centrebus in recent years, which now provides services to St Albans, Harpenden, Luton (direct and via Caddington), Toddington and Milton Keynes. Centrebus also operates three local services within Dunstable to Beecroft/Weatherby, Downside and the Langdale Road estate. Many bus services are financially supported by Central Bedfordshire Council.

Construction of the Luton Dunstable Busway between Houghton Regis, Dunstable, Luton and Luton Airport was completed in September 2013. Much of the busway runs along the lines of the old railway which has been converted into a guided busway and dedicated roadway. Buses travel on ordinary roads around Dunstable, Houghton Regis and at the airport, but benefit from fast transit (up to 50MPH) with few stops on the busway itself between these centres. Dunstable was once served by the Dunstable Branch Lines to Leighton Buzzard and to Luton from Dunstable Town railway station. There have been a number of campaigns for the re-establishment of a passenger railway, but these have been superseded by the Luton Dunstable Busway, which uses the former rail route (see Bus Transport above). Dunstable is one of the largest towns south of the Midlands conurbations without its own rail service. But as part of the small Luton-Dunstable conurbation it is 3 mi (5 km) from Leagrave station.

Within the town centre is the Grove Theatre, Priory House Heritage Centre and the Priory Church where Henry VIII formalised his divorce from Catherine of Aragon. At the heart of the town sits the Quadrant Shopping Centre, whilst across High Street North a secondary shopping community named the Eleanor's Cross Shopping Precinct hosts a modern statue commemorating the original cross. Nearby Luton has the Waulud's Bank prehistoric henge and Luton Museum & Art Gallery.

Dunstable Downs, a chalky escarpment outside the town, is a popular site for kite flying, paragliding and hang gliding, while the London Gliding Club provides a base for conventional gliding and other air activities at the bottom of the Downs. Further into the countryside are the open-range Whipsnade Zoo, a garden laid out in the form of a cathedral at Whipsnade Tree Cathedral and the Totternhoe Knolls motte-and-bailey castle.

Gadebridge Park | Urban Park | Hemel | Hempstead | Hertfordshire | England

Gadebridge Park | Urban Park | Hemel | Hempstead | Hertfordshire | England

Gadebridge Park is on the northern edges of Hemel Hempstead and is Dacorum's principal park. The park is divided into two main areas, separated by the Leighton Buzzard Road, with a total area of about 32 hectares. Gadebridge Park also features a skate park and flower garden in its green spaces. In the gardens, small bee hives provide habitats for bees as well as information on the different species.

Of this, 20 hectares are to the west of the Leighton Buzzard Road, which includes a listed excavated and re-interred Roman archaeological site, a play area and the Field of Hope daffodil display. This section of the park slopes, with the gradient falling to the Leighton Buzzard Road, which runs along the bottom of the Gade Valley. The area is used for occasional events, such as cross-country competitions and fun runs.

To the east of the Leighton Buzzard Road lies the main section of the park, which is extensively used for recreation. Two car parks within the site serve both the park and town centre and there are two blocks of public toilets. Usually there are about 10 special events held in the park each year, in addition to visits by the fun fair.

St Mary's Church sits just behind Gadebridge Park and is the oldest place of worship in Hemel, Hempstead.

Places to see in ( Leighton Buzzard - UK )

Places to see in ( Leighton Buzzard - UK )

Leighton Buzzard is a town in Bedfordshire, England near the Chiltern Hills and lying between Luton and Milton Keynes.
Leighton Buzzard adjoins Linslade and the name Leighton Linslade is sometimes used to refer to the combination of the two towns; parts of this article also apply to Linslade as well as Leedon. For local government purposes, the town of Leighton Buzzard is part of the Central Bedfordshire district and is administered jointly with Linslade as the civil parish of Leighton-Linslade.

Leighton Buzzard is also famous as the Grand Union Canal was opened there. More recently, Leighton Buzzard station was the location for part of the film Robbery, which is based on the so-called Great Train Robbery (1963), whereas the actual robbery took place just outside the town, at Bridego bridge, Ledburn. In the Domesday Book, Leighton Buzzard and Linslade were both called Leestone.

Leighton Buzzard contains All Saints' Church, an Early English parish church dating from 1277. The church has a 190 ft spire and has been described as the 'cathedral of South Bedfordshire'. The town is also known for the Leighton Buzzard Light Railway, a narrow gauge heritage railway. After the Poor Law Amendment Act 1834 Leighton Buzzard became the centre of a poor law union that consisted of 15 surrounding parishes with the union workhouse (still standing) being sited in Grovebury Road.

Leighton Buzzard is close to the M1 motorway and A5 road, and is served by London Midland and Southern services on the West Coast Main Line railway at Leighton Buzzard railway station (in Linslade). The Grand Union Canal runs through the town, alongside the River Ouzel. Leighton Buzzard is served by the F70 bus route, operated by Arriva, which provides a direct Bus rapid transit service to Luton via the Luton to Dunstable Busway, with an onward connection to Luton Airport.

There's plenty to see along the Grand Union Canal. From the vibrant heart of London, it leads you out into the rolling Chiltern Hills, through rural Northamptonshire and Warwickshire and into the Birmingham suburbs. The canal’s striking the steeply climbing Hatton Lock Flight. Set in charming Warwickshire countryside.
