Leeton is a unique town at the heart of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. Irrigation construction scheme started in 1906. The result was that it transformed the barren plains into a fertile agricultural oasis. It is now the richest agricultural areas in Australia.

Leeton is situated in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, approximately 550 km west of Sydney and 450 km north of Melbourne.[2] It is the administrative centre of the Leeton Shire Council local government area. Situated in one of the most productive farming regions in the state, the town was designed by Walter Burley Griffin and purpose-built for the irrigation schemes announced by the New South Wales government in the early 20th century.The Leeton Shire possesses numerous citrus, rice, cotton, grape, walnut and wheat farms. Leeton is known as Australia's Rice Capital, as well as The Heart of SunRice Country, as it is home to the headquarters of SunRice corporation, one of Australia's largest food exporters Other industry includes Arnott’s Biscuits (previously Freedom Foods), the Daily Drinks Company, JBS Australia, Webster Limited, and Murrumbidgee Irrigation Limited. Leeton has a population of 11,500 people as of 2020.

We hit the road after a night in the stunning Oura Beach Reserve, free camping and head towards our next destination of Darlington Point. On the way we stop and meander around Lockhart discovering there's more to do than one might think. Definitely could spend a little more time there but there's always next time. #supportsmallbusiness
After Lockhart we make a pit stop at Narrander and shoot through to Darlington Point where we encounter our first road obstacle, enter 4WD ChugBug!!!
