After our wonderful experience in Soccsksargen early this year, my new found friends immediately plan for another trip and invited me to join them for a quick weekend getaway in Mercedes Group of Islands, in Camarines Norte, Bicol Region.
I’ve been to Bicol too many times as far as I can remember and the last time I went there was full of tears and heartaches ????. (Pero since nakamove on na tayo eh laban na ulit! Haha!). Also, my mother is originally from Bicol and I was also assigned to do my On-the-Job training in the same province a few years ago. So, seeing the Mayon Volcano and the white sand beach of Calaguas is not something new to me. But when I heard about Mercedes Group of Islands, that did escalate real quick and I immediately answered a big 'YES' to my friends.

Butuan To Surigao Bus Ride Via Bachelor Express
Only 310 PHP (Less than 10 AUD) per person from Butuan City to Surigao City (125 KM), travelling by bus via Bachelor Express as a solo traveller was a smart choice.
The entire trip took 3 hours and comfy.
A few terminal stops along the way so good for personal needs.
The window side front seat was a bonus.

???? HIDDEN WATERFALLS OF QUEZON PROVINCE: Maapon Falls ????
✨Maapon Falls is a hidden gem of Quezon Province. It is located in the boundary of the towns of Sampaloc and Lucban. One will have to hike for an hour and a half from Lucban-Sampaloc Road to get to the falls. The trail is fairly unexplored and we had the falls all to ourselves when we got there. Unlike other places we’ve been to, the area is well-maintained, with clear water and without trash.
????HOW TO GET THERE:
From Manila
1. Ride a bus from Metro Manila to Santa Cruz, Laguna (i.e. DLTB in LRT Taft-Buendia; travel time is 2 – 3 hours depending on traffic condition).
2. Transfer to a jeepney bound for Lucban, Quezon (travel time: 1.5 – 2 hours).
3. Charter a tricycle to Barangay Piis which serves as the jump-off.
4. Register and secure guide/s.
From Lucena
1. Ride a jeepney to Lucban Quezon
2. Charter a tricycle to Barangay Piis which serves as the jump-off.
3. Register and secure guide/s.
✨Breakdown of Expenses
₱30- Jeepney fare from Lucena to Lucban
₱40- Tricycle fare from Lucban Town Proper to Brgy. Piis
₱20- Environmental Fee
₱300- Tour Guide
✏️ Tips/Reminders:
????This waterfall is also known as Hangga or Asana Falls.
????Bring food and drinks as there are no sari-sari stores in the area.
????The trek takes about 1 – 2 hours depending on your pace but it may take longer if it’s muddy during rainy season.
????Check the weather first. Expect rain during monsoon season (June-February). You won’t be allowed to get close to the waterfall if the current is too strong.
????Always observe the LNT principles.

If you are looking for a water adventure and scenic views along the riverside, this water rafting in Magdalena, Laguna is one best option. The river trip is about 45 minutes to an hour but in our case, it took us 2 hours.
The last destination is in Balanac Dam which also offers various water activities for all ages.
