Yellowstone National Park is a huge area. It spans almost 3,500 miles or 5,600 km across the state of Wyoming, and extends into parts of both Montana and Idaho. Established in 1872, it’s America’s first national park and to this day it also remains one of the largest and most popular ones in the country. In fact, Yellowstone sits on top of a dormant volcano and is home to more hydrothermal features than anywhere else on earth. On top of that, the park is home to diverse landscapes and activities. From lush valleys with an abundance of wildlife, to spectacular canyons and waterfalls you can hike to, deep lakes, and rivers for fishing. It’s a tough choice as pretty much all the scenery here is jaw-dropping, but there are the best and most beautiful places to visit in Montana.
Number 10 on this list is Paradise Valley. This is a valley of the Yellowstone River, known for its surrounding mountain ranges, rustic guest ranches, outdoor adventure opportunities, and beloved attractions like Chico Hot Springs. We think it’s one of the best places in the state for exploring the countryside by horseback, and we never miss an opportunity to trek into the Absaroka Mountains to picnic along their jaw-dropping vistas.

Enjoy a jam-packed day in one of the national parks or ski at one of the largest resorts in the country. Whatever you choose you won’t be disappointed as each of these towns offers stunning views and one-of-a-kind scenery.
Some of the towns on this list are lesser known and include some hidden gems. As a local, I go off the tourist path to find some unique and scenic towns to visit and with little tourist crowds.
