A Shepherd's Journey (with English Subtitles)
This short film follows Narender Kaith, a Gaddi shepherd from the Kaobil village in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh. Every year he and his fellow Gaddis take a herd of around 1500 sheep and goats across the Bhabha pass from the Kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh to Spiti. This video is about his life, his journey and the difficulties faced along the way.
I spent about 40 days travelling with the shepherds to make this video. Meeting Narender in the Bhabha valley was a completely random coincidence and I thank my lucky stars for that meeting. We were not that well acquainted on our onward journey from the Bhabha Valley to the Pin Valley. I was camping a bit away from the shepherds and cooking my own food. But we became much closer on the return journey and I was soon eating, sleeping and living in their camps. I was following truly in the footsteps of the nomads!

কেনো যাবেন ?
বঙ্কিমচন্দ্র জন্ম 1838 সালের 27এ জুন। তিনি বিখ্যাত তার কিছু অসামান্য সাহিত্যকীর্তির জন্য যেমন: কাপালকুন্ডলা, অনান্দামঠ, রাজসিংহ, দেবী চৌধুরানী এবং আরো অনেক। আনন্দমঠ উপন্যাসে তার লেখা বন্দে মাতরম আমাদের দেশের ন্যাশনাল সং। বাংলা সাহিত্যে তার অসামান্য অবদানের জন্য তাকে সাহিত্য সম্রাট বলা হয়।
এখানে যে museum আছে সেখানে লেখকের বহু ওরিজিনাল পাণ্ডুলিপি সংরক্ষণ করে রাখা আছে, তার কিছু ছবি এবং মূর্তিও রাখা আছে এখানে। তিনি যে chair এ বসতেন এবং যে টেবিলে লিখতেন সেটিও যত্ন করে রাখা আছে এখানে।
Museum ঘোরার পর যেতে হবে লেখকের বাড়ির ভেতরে। সেখানে রয়েছে লেখকের জন্মস্থান। আগেকার দিনে বাড়ির ভেতরে সদ্যোজাতদের জন্মের জন্য আঁতুরঘর থাকতো। সেখানেই লেখকের জন্ম হয়।
এখানে একটি গ্রন্থাগারও আছে। রবিবার সেটি বন্ধ থাকে। গ্রন্থাগারের বাইরে আছে ভগবান কৃষ্ণের একটি মন্দির এবং একটি রথ। এই রথটি রথযাত্রার সময় ব্যবহার করা হতো।
কিভাবে যাবেন ঋষি বঙ্কিমচন্দ্রের ভিটে বাড়ি?
শিয়ালদা থেকে আসতে চাইলে আপনাকে নৈহাটিগামী লোকাল ট্রেন এ উঠতে হবে।
ট্রেন যখন স্টেশন এ ঢুকবে ডানদিকে বঙ্কিমচন্দ্রের বাড়িটি দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।
স্টেশন এ নেমে 10 মিনিট হেঁটে গেলেই পৌঁছে যাবেন বঙ্কিমচন্দ্রের বাড়ি।
নৈহাটি স্টেশন এ ট্রেন বা বাস এ করে পৌঁছানো যাবে।
1. ট্রেন: নৈহাটি/রানাঘাট/কৃষ্ণনগর/কল্যাণী সীমান্ত/শান্তিপুর/গেদে/লালগোলা গামী যেকোনো ট্রেন শিয়ালদা থেকে পাওয়া যাবে। (ভাড়া ₹10 শিয়ালদা থেকে)
2. ব্যান্ডেল থেকে ব্যান্ডেল নৈহাটি লোকাল পাওয়া যাবে। (ভাড়া ₹5 ব্যান্ডেল থেকে)
3. বাস (bus no.85) ব্যারাকপুর কোর্ট থেকে কাঁচড়াপাড়া গামী বাস। নৈহাটি-হাবরা বসে করেও আসা যাবে। (বাস ভাড়া ₹25 হাবরা থেকে নৈহাটি)
●স্টেশন থেকে 10 মিনিটের হাঁটা পথ, বা toto করে 5 মিনিটের পথ।
●সকাল 10 টা থেকে বিকাল 5 টা পর্যন্ত খোলা। টিকেট এর দাম মাথাপিছু ₹5।
