I read a few articles that mention that Gig Harbor is one of the most picturesque town in the PNW and even in the US! I had to find out for myself. Less than 60 minutes from Seattle this little maritime city did not disappoint. Taking the scenic route along the waterfront you’ll find it beautiful, charming and of course picturesque! Here are a few things to do and explore in Gig Harbor, WA.
???? Waterfront & Views: Finholm View Climb
The 100-step Finholm View Climb offers multiple landings with benches to sit and admire the incredible vantage points overlooking the harbor and the marina. On a clear day you can see Mount Rainier.
???? Along The Waterfront
Harborview Drive is easy to navigate. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafes, tasting rooms, shops and parks. A great place to stop and take-in the views is Skansie Brothers Park.

Drying up of lakes and rivers is one effect of global warming and the resulting increase in extreme weather. This is because precipitation in watersheds has decreased, resulting in a decrease in reservoirs and natural lakes. The repercussions on the economy, the ecology, and society as a whole are catastrophic.

Because of global warming, many rivers and lakes are drying up. As the average temperature of the Earth rises, the amount of rainfall that falls as snowfall in mountains decreases. Rivers and lakes further downstream receive less precipitation as a result, and eventually dry up.
Long periods of below-average precipitation can cause drought in a region. For lack of water, rivers and lakes may dry up entirely. Some of the lakes and rivers drying up include Lake Chad. With a surface size of nearly 26,000 square kilometers, it is undoubtedly one of the world's largest lakes. However, it has been drying up steadily since the 1960s due to a number of factors, including climate change, overgrazing, deforestation, and poor water management. Func Fact: The lake is shared by four different countries: Chad, Nigeria, Niger, and Cameroon.
Another water body that is highly endangered is the Salton Sea. The Salton Sea is a large, saline lake located in the southeastern corner of California. The lake is fed by the New and Whitewater rivers, which flow from the nearby mountains. It is a man-made lake that was created in 1905 when water from the Colorado River flowed into an agricultural area called the Imperial Valley. However, the lake has suffered several severe droughts in the past few years, and the community is worried about the future of the lake.

00:47 – “West Shore Marina” located off the Harborview Drive is a publicly accessible waterfront facility. At this Marina you can dock your boat or even a yacht. If you don’t have a boat you can also rent one and even take different boating classes.
01:58 – The “Harbor History Museum” established in 1964 offers experiences of heritage of the city’s communities. In 1976 the Museum began its first operation. Inside the Museum you will find a one-room school house from 1893, a fishing vessel, an exhibition space, and a library. You can also host private events.
03:50 – In the city you will find some very cool looking houses like this one. With a fantastic water view and 4 parking spaces, this particular 3,300 hundred sq ft house is almost $1.3 Million dollars.
05:22 – The “Bogue Viewing Platform” is a mini-park overlooking the water. This statue is a “Memory Vessel” that was built in 2014. The artwork represents a bond between the Scandinavian cultures and the sea in the Viking era. Park was named after the Mayor Ruth Bogue.
06:28 – Along the road you will find a few good places to eat like this Devoted Kiss Café.
06:46 – Anthony’s Restaurant provides a lot of delicious food from hamburgers to fish tacos and some tasty beers. You can sit inside or outside with some gorgeous views!
09:46 – Right on this Pier you can rent kayaks, paddle boards, and even get a boat tour like at this Destiny Harbor Tours.
10:08 – Overall Gig Harbor is a cool little city & if you have never been here I highly suggest you visit it! With great views, amazing restaurants, & lots to do, I am sure you will find the city very pleasant.

Where did all the water go??? Lake Purdy Now vs Last Year
Be on the look out for the water in Lake Purdy, it appears to have disappeared. I have lived in this area for most of my life and this is the 1st time I have seen the lake this low. Where did all the water go?? Birmingham, Alabama hasn't seen rain in nearly 50 days and the lake is showing it. Lake Purdy today Nov 7, 2016 vs. last year Oct 2015.
