Vanuatu Malekula South West Bay Labo Tour - part 2

The Malekula SW Bay festival happens each August and is organized by several communities located close to each others: Lambinwen (Yacht Club), Ten Stick, Wintua and Labo.

Each year, this 3-4-day festival is a highlight of any cultural experience in Vanuatu.
An event you will always remember!

By organizing this festival, the organizers raise some money for the local communities ... so visitors contributions go to community projects of local villages!
Do NOT expect to see many tourists at all as it takes some effort to get there! You will have to fly from Port Vila to either South West bay small airfield or go via 4x4 and speedboat transfer from Norsup/Lakatoro. You can stay at the local guest houses or even bring your camping gear!

You will see the famous Nalawan dance and participate to traditional village life. You will enjoy local food and do some good hiking.

Contact Chief Willy at +678 48864 or 5366168 for exact dates and accommodations reservations.

Notes: village life and tours can be experienced at any time of the year.

AIR VANUATU from Port Vila to Pentecost Island

VANUATU TOURISM PROMO

Port Vila, Vanuatu (Feb 2017)

I got to visit Port Vila quite a few times over the years to work on their mobile phone network.

This is a simple video taken on GoPro of me driving from the airport into the centre of Port Vila. There'd been a large storm so some flooding had taken place.

Beautiful country, wonderful people. Will definitely visit again.

Vanuatu Travel Doc Part 07

Vanuatu, officially the Republic of Vanuatu (French: République de Vanuatu, Bislama: Ripablik blong Vanuatu), is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is some 1,750 kilometres (1,090 mi) east of northern Australia, 500 kilometres (310 mi) north-east of New Caledonia, west of Fiji, and south of the Solomon Islands.
Vanuatu was first inhabited by Melanesian people. Europeans began to settle in the area in the late 18th century. In the 1880s France and the United Kingdom claimed parts of the country and in 1906 they agreed on a framework for jointly managing the archipelago through a British-French Condominium as the New Hebrides. An independence movement was established in the 1970s, and the Republic of Vanuatu was created in 1980.
Vanuatu is an island archipelago consisting of approximately 82 relatively small, geologically newer islands of volcanic origin (65 of them inhabited), with about 800 miles (1,300 km) north to south distance between the outermost islands.[2] Two of these islands (Matthew and Hunter) are also claimed by the French overseas department of New Caledonia. Fourteen of Vanuatu's islands have surface areas of more than 100 square kilometres (39 sq mi). From largest to smallest, these are Espiritu Santo, Malakula, Efate, Erromango, Ambrym, Tanna, Pentecost, Epi, Ambae or Aoba, Vanua Lava, Gaua, Maewo, Malo, and Anatom or Aneityum. The nation's largest towns are the capital Port Vila, situated on Efate, and Luganville on Espiritu Santo.[3] The highest point in Vanuatu is Mount Tabwemasana, at 1,879 metres (6,160 ft), on the island of Espiritu Santo.
