California's Gold #12010 - LA GRANGE

Huell travels to the small town of La Grange to see an amazing part of our states history. The Tuolumne Gold Dredge sits abandoned right of the highway and is an incredible site. Huell and some local historians visit the dredge and the now virtual ghost town that was once home to the many workers that kept this behemoth running around the clock in search of gold.

10 Cheapest Places to live in California.

10 Cheapest Places to live in California.

Buying a house can be hard. If you are thinking about California and don't need to be in one of the major cities, this list is for you.
Nobody wants a giant mortgage but in most of California, that is what you are going to get.

If you enjoy these videos I would love to hear about it. Most of these videos are made to help people who are thinking about relocating, looking for real estate, or just wanting to learn about the United States. We look at the best and worst cities, states, towns, and neighborhoods in the United States. But, most of the time focus on the negative side of locations. If you only want some happy positive information about a city, town, or state, I would suggest looking up local mortgage and real estate companies or maybe the locations website. They are trying to sell you something so it will be nothing but sunshine, rainbows, and a bunch of smoke up your skirt. They won't tell you about crime, poverty, bail bondsmen, or insurance you'll need because of natural disasters. I will. And I will try and make it entertaining.

Top 10 Towns You Can Retire on $1658 a month in the Southern US

Are you thinking about retiring soon? Are you looking for an affordable town to retire in? Maybe you aren't retiring but still looking for a nice town where you can afford a home. If you are in those situations this video is for you.
We researched the Southern United States looking for the best towns someone could survive on Social Security only. That monthly check is currently $1658 a month. We looked at Cost of Living, housing, health care deductibles, insurance, and Utilities. These towns are the best bet for the average person on Social Security or some other sort of fixed income.
Most of these towns have homes for sale that can fit your budget. A Real Estate purchase in some of these towns is almost cheaper than renting.
Today we are looking at the Southern States. Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Kentucky. Virginia and West Virginia should be on this list but some consider those part of the North Atlantic.

Side Note: This is focusing on residential real estate not commercial. People keep asking that for some reason. These are just the affordable and best places to retire or live in the southern United States.

Day Trip to La Grange ???? (FULL EPISODE) S4 E3

THROWBACK EPISODE - This episode originally aired on PBS on October 25, 2012. Some of the locations may have changed. Check for the most up-to-date information.

This might just be the “Best Little Day Trip in Texas.” I’m sure Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton would agree, as it was the events of La Grange’s famous “Chicken Ranch” that inspired the classic musical “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” While the brothel is no longer around (it was moved to Dallas and then burned down), there’s still plenty to do in this town.

For starters, “Czech” out the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center. This museum gives visitors a feel for the culture and early days of Fayette County when thousands of Czech immigrants populated the area. The museum has clothes, relocated homes and lots of musical instruments. Crank up the polka, baby!

To drink like an early Czech, head to Texas’s oldest functioning meadery, the Rohan Meadery, which has been making authentic old world meads right here in La Grange for many generations. You can learn all about how this honey wine is made and taste many different kinds. You may even run into Beowulf or a few dragons along the way…

To experience the natural side of La Grange, set up a paddling trip down the Colorado River with the folks from Camp Lone Star. This short trip is perfect for large groups and anyone hesitant to get in the river, and you’ll soon be at ease as you wind around the city in this slow flowing water.

One other must-see stop is the Monument Hill & Kreische Brewery State Historic Site. This park holds two incredible historic sites and a ton of beautiful nature. One site is Monument Hill honoring the Texan heroes who lost their lives in the Dawson Massacre and Mier Expedition, where Texans had to draw beans for their lives. The other stop is the stone ruins of the Kreische Brewery, one of the oldest breweries in Texas started in the 1860s, and the house of the Kreische family, which you can tour.

We are saddened to write that after over 100 years of service and 4 generations of BBQ-lovin’ Texans, PRAUSE'S MEAT MARKET has closed since we filmed our episode.

For some reason, the best Czech food is in gas stations. To taste delicious Czech culture and a true Texas road trip tradition, head to Hruska’s in Ellinger, TX for a kolache or klobasniky(the meat kolaches). They’ve got dozens of sweet kolache treats and meaty Czech eats, and if you’re looking for more than a snack, they also make a mean burger. You can also find tasty kolaches at Weikel’s Bakery in La Grange
