It is 145 km away from the state capital Hyderabad. It is also the second largest city in the state of Telangana. The city's name is derived from the Telugu word Orugallu – 'Oru' which means one and the word 'gallu' meaning stone. The city was the capital of the great Kakatiya rulers who reigned between 12th and 14th centuries.

The Kakatiyas, who ruled the place for more than 200 years, have left the succeeding generations, many grand monuments and architectural wonders like the famous Warangal fort, Swayambhu Temple and many other amazing ancient structures. The Warangal Fort, which is the main attraction of the city is spread over a radius of 19 kilometers between Warangal and Hanamkonda. The fort was constructed in the 13th century in the reign of the Kakateya King Ganapati Deva. The Warangal fort is most famous for its graceful and finitely carved arches and pillars. This fort has four large stone gateways.
Rudrama Devi (Rudradeva Maharaja, Rudramadevi, Rani Rudrama or Rudrama-devi), was a monarch of the the Kakatiyas & ruled from 1263-1289 (or 1295) until her death. She was one of the very few women to rule as monarchs in India and promoted a male image in order to do so. This was a significant change and one that was followed by her successor and also by the later Vijayanagara Empire

Warangal Fort is located in Warangal District, Telangana, India. It was the capital city of Kakatiyas and Musunuri Nayakas. It appears to have existed since at least the 12th century when it was the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty. The fort has four ornamental gates, known as Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, that originally formed the entrances to a now ruined great Shiva temple. 7 Wonders of India: Warangal Fort
Warangal Fort is situated in the Warangal city of Andhra Pradesh. In the mid-13th century, the construction of this colossal structure was initiated by the Kakatiyan king, Ganapatideva. Rani Rudramaa, who was the daughter of the king, further made the efforts to complete the construction work. The ends include commanding gateways and graceful towers that elevate to no less than 50 feet. The main gateway comprises of the four gigantic pillars, which have been crafted out of a single rock. Warangal Fort is one of the architectural wonders of the bygone era. The structure was built in the 13th century by rulers of the Kakatiya dynasty.
