Kronshagen is a town in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and is located just west of Kiel. Its cemetery, the Parkfriedhof Eichhof, is the largest cemetery in Schleswig-Holstein.

Kiel lies approximately 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of Hamburg. A number of passenger ferries to Sweden, Norway, Russia, and other countries operate from here. Moreover, today Kiel harbour is an important port of call for cruise ships touring the Baltic Sea.
Kiel was one of the founding cities of original European Green Capital Award in 2006. In 2005 Kiel's GDP per capita was €35,618, which is well above Germany's national average, and 159% of the European Union's average.
Within Germany and parts of Europe, the city is known for its leading handball team, THW Kiel. The city is home to the University of Kiel (established in 1665).
The name of the city is most likely derived from the wedge form of its bay (Keil in German)

Kiel's recorded history began in the 13th century, but the city was originally a Danish village, in the 8th century. Until 1864 it was administered by Denmark in personal union. In 1866 the city was annexed by Prussia and in 1871 it became part of Germany.

Gaarden is a borough of Kiel, Germany, distributed into the two districts of Gaarden-East (This Video) and Gaarden-South. Gaarden has approx. 21,300 inhabitants. The district of Gaarden-East is often just refered to as Gaarden, although this term is technically wrongly used.
Kiel Gaarden is situated along the Ostufer and south of it. The name probably originates from the former usage of this area as garden. The centre of Gaarden, the Vinetaplatz, was named this way in 1903 after the marine ship SMS Vineta.
Above all, Gaarden-East is known for having social stress and social problems due to many people from different cultural backgrounds living here together. The rent in this district is low, even though Gaarden-East is situated very close to central Kiel. Around 15% of Gaardens inhabitants is unemployed. The German criminal movie series Tatort filmed their episode Borowski und die Kinder von Gaarden here and shed light on some social problems in Gaarden-East.

The city districts of Düsternbrook, Schreventeich, Ravensberg and Blücherplatz are popular places to live with many 19th century buildings, villas and tree-lined streets. In contrast to the heavy bomb damage inflicted on the central parts of the city during the Second World War, most of the residential areas were not severely damaged. Hence, Kiel's more modern-style inner city and Kiel's more historic/elaborate residential areas stand in architectural contrast to one another.
There are plans for large-scale improvement and building efforts for the inner city, providing better pavements, better access to and view of the waterfront, and a generally more attractive feel to the place. These plans, most notably the Kleiner Kiel Kanal, a restoration of a historic canal that was filled in to make place for road infrastructure, are to be implemented.

The Hiroshimapark is a green area in the district of Damperhof in Kiel, Germany. It is situated between Kiel City Hall and the Small Kiel. Since its founding in 1934, it was originally called Bismarckanlagen, before getting its name changed to Hiroshimapark in 1987.
Since 1986, every year on the evening of August 6th, a memorial hour is held to remmeber the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. This is used by peace initiatives to demonstrate against war and nuclear weapons. In the end of the evening - with the sun setting - the festival ends with everyone letting their selfmade origami lotus flowers sail on the small Kiel.
Since 2017, a 75 m long swimming pier is installed.

The Ratsdienergarten is a green area between Lorentzendamm, small Kiel, Jensendamm and Dänischer Straße in Kiel, Germany. It's name originates from the former gardens that were situated by the wealthy Ratsdiener in this area. This name was made official in 1938.
For the last decades, Ratsdienergarten more and more became a sculpture park, with many art monuments being installed there today. Some of them are:

The city districts of Düsternbrook, Schreventeich, Ravensberg and Blücherplatz are popular places to live with many 19th century buildings, villas and tree-lined streets. The government offices, ministries and parliament of the state of Schleswig-Holstein are also mainly based in these neighbourhoods, particularly Düsternbrook. In contrast to the heavy bomb damage inflicted on the central parts of the city during the Second World War, most of the residential areas were not severely damaged. Hence, Kiel's more modern-style inner city and Kiel's more historic/elaborate residential areas stand in architectural contrast to one another.
